What size are these? I held a demo tonight and one of my new customer's want's to know if they are big enough to stamp onto a stamp or if they are only good for small projects. I've never seen them, but only heard about them here, so far, so I didn't know what to tell her.
Also, do these stamp spots stick up like the classic pads do? I was wondering if they did if you could just lay your stamp face up (rubber side up) and stamp the stampin spot onto it.
Just curious...She doesn't have enough $$ for all the classic stamp pads right now, but would like to play with all the colors and thought this might be a nice start.

They are 1in sq and they do 'stick up'. Good way to get all colors faster! You're right too that you can turn the stamp upside down and ink it. Tell her to get all 4 sets & you'll give her something..ex: sponges, glue stick, pack of card stock(the 4.50kind)....
I was just trying to figure out how big they were since the catty doesn't say.

Good idea about encouraging her to buy all 4 sets...I think she wants to buy a stamp set or two that are being discontinued, so I think she's trying to keep her stamp pad purchases to a minimum, but I like that idea of giving a customer something free if they buy all 4 sets.
Well, I'd better get back to bed. My dad just arrived a short time ago and I couldn't fall asleep as I was curious as to whether or not anybody answered my question yet. LOL...I'm hooked on this place and need to get regular fixes throughout the day and sometimes late at night as well. :shock:

I love love love my spots - the only full sized pad I have is Basic Black...
I have had no problem using my spots on my stamps - now that being said I don't have any of the really large stamps like the background ones.
If the stamp is larger than the pad I just rub my stamping spot all over the stamp and stamp away - a few times I have had an incident where the colors are a little lighter in one place but that is the beauty of doing something handmade - little imperfections are what shows you care enough to make it yourself....
I have both the Bold Brights and the Earth Elements...I am finding I use some colors way way more than others so I am going to start to buy maybe one large pad at each order I make of those colors I do use alot...

I also love my spots. I am a "new" demo and all the big pads are expensive, so I have all the spots ,that way I have all colors until I can get all the big ones. So far , every show or camp I have used them, everyone order at least one family at the time and they are all working to get them all too. Just turn your stamp , ink the stamp with the spot and stamp away!
I love the spots. I don't own all the SU colors, so the spots are a great way to get the colors quickly and inexpensively. I've used them to ink up my large back ground stamps - it takes a little more effort, but it still works! ~Pam
If you're telling your customers about spots tell them this also:
The spots are smaller, so you'll need to reink sooner than with a regular ink pad. They are great for getting all of the colors on a budget. You can then determine which colors you use the most. For any stamper who likes background stamps, the spots will be frustrating.
At workhsops I always have spots and regular ink pads for customers to see and use. Then they can make an educated decision on what to buy. I personally have invested in the 48 big ink pads and I have BB spots for my alphabet stamps and misc use. The spots used directly on paper make a good replacement for the little shapes which are retiring. (I'm in mourning)
I am not a demo...but I love my spots! I have all 4 sets...and they're great. It only takes an extra couple of seconds to do a big background stamp...it's not that bad! I too only have a Basic Black in the large size. I'm sure I'll get more...but it was cheap to get them all "now" to start stampng!
Actually one thing I use more than my spots is my versamark...and I use it ALL THE TIME.

I love the spots as well. It's definitely a good way to get more colors for less money. I have 2 sets right now since most of the original stamp pads I got were in the Bold Brights and Soft Subtles family. I'll probably get the spots for those 2 sets for portability but will eventually have all the large pads as well. Now, it's just a matter of finding space for everything.

I love the spots. When I have new stampers who are just starting out i explain they can buy BBlack and a couple of pads and be frustrated or get a set of spots and the BB and they can play! Almost all of them buy a set with matching assorted cardstock pack plus USW or USV. Then they learn their favourite colours and if they want to upgarde to a large pad they can.
One thing to mention is when inking a large stamp with the spots is to huff your warm breath before stamping the image..this moistened the ink again (should it have dried in some areas of the stamp) and you get a lovely even image.

Does the stampin spot store the pad upside down like the big pads do? Or is it just a cover that fits on and I will need to flip them upside down to store?
I have all the spots and love them. I keep them in the box that they come in and write the color family on the bottom. I put a velcro dot on the closure part and store the box upside down. I always keep them on my table where I work so that they are ready when I need them. They are small and don't take up much room.
Each demo that I've done, I've used the spots. Someone always buys them!
I would love to have the full set of pads, but I can't do that yet, so ... the spots allow me to use all the colors now.
I just bought the Spots in Rich Regal after going to a stamp camp with my demo. I think 4 out of 6 of us ordered spots that day. I have Bold Brights and Pastels in the full size, but they are heavy to carry to get togethers. I love the spots!!!
Love the spots! I actually like them better than the full size pads for inking large background stamps. With the spots you can be sure you get the entire stamp. Sometimes with the full size pads I didn't get as much ink in the middle and my stamped image didn't turn out as well. Also, with the spots you can use more than one color on a background stamp. Having the spots has let me figure out which colors I definitely need full size pads in.
New demo as well but love my spots. Ihave several large pads but use my spots the most. Like others I started with basic black, blender pens and spots. I like their size and that you can stamp parts of your stamp in different colors! You do have to store them upside down but have had my set for over a year and still going strong
What a hot topic right now! Me and my girlfriend were having this debate just recently. It sounds like it is not only acceptable to use them for demos (which was in question) but almost a guaranteed sell. Have any of you given them for a hostess gift with a small stamp...or is that too much?

Also, talk to me about you inking technique...is it tap, tap, swish, swish swish...or tap, tap, tap, turn...my demo has a preference but I can't get it down.
Finally, not the right topic, but I want to talk about becoming a demonstrator and ideas for maybe doing a mother/daughter club. Where should I post that?
Sam, the first spot I ever got was as a prize at a party. I think there were two games with prizes -- one the winner (me, yeah!!) got to pick one spot out of several to choose from; the other prize was a basket with small stamps to choose from.
As far as technique goes, my last motion is tap tap to give a uniform look. Hard to describe what I mean...
Go for it on becoming a demo!! (I say that because just got done sending my paperwork in, lol!!)
Ok I am confused. What colors did they discontinue and what colors did they bring in. My demo said nothing about this. We are doing a group right now where we get all the markers and I don't want to miss anything.
Stampin' Up did not change any colors this year. Or for several years previous.

i love my spots and another thing that was recently brought to my attention was that they fit into the second smallest stamp box that we sell!!! I have since converted mine over from the original boxes and it is so much easier to see what color family is which since the cases are clear...I also store mine upside down...
I have found that you do have to reink them sooner, but a great new catalog item is that the re-inkers are now sold as a family which is cheaper....than buying them individually....
I ended up buying all the color families in spots cause I was on a strict budget and it was the only way to get ALL the colors fast...
I'm glad to hear everyone loves the spots. I just ordered some and am waiting for them to arrive. I thought it would be a great way to figure out which colors I like best and will use most before I invest in the large pads.
Simple small lid on the spot; you will need to flip upside down for storage. Easy to do by flipping the cardboard storage case they come in upside down.
I own all 48 Classic Pads and all 48 spots. I love the spots for travel and am going to be demoing them throughout the year as I really love how handy they are! Altho not as able to get into tight spots as the markers can, they do very well for omitting techniques.
The only draw-back for spots, is that it takes forever to ink up a large background stamp. Other than that, I can see no negatives for anyone investing in them--only positives! : )

What is the surface of the spots made of? Is it the same as the bigger pads, which I think have a kind of woven linen covering? I prefer this style over the foam pads, as they do not make as much of a mess. I never considered buying the spots until I read this discussion. Now it looks like I may be able to afford all 48 colors without breaking the bank!
The surface of the spots is exactly the same as the surface of the larger pads - woven threads of some kind.
I love being able to own all 48 colors without the expense! (Though I plan to collect the full size pads over time) I will keep the spots for the portability.
A nice thing to do for your spots also is to order the medium size plastic container to put them in... This way you can see which set of spots is which!!! It is also nice to demonstrate this way at a workshop since everyone can see right thru the container instead of the cardboard box that gets banged up after a while and marked up...The clear containers wipe out nicely also...
Remember to tell your customers about the strings that get on the edges of the spots. If you don't trim them off, ink leaks EVERYWHERE. I have a box of bold brights that are covered in Purple ink. I don't think I can show them now they are such a mess. Maybe I can show them as to what can happen if you don't trim strings.
I have all of the full-size (old style) pads, but also invested in the spots after reading what one demo had to say about them...she said she bought all of the spots first. Then, if she used more than half of the colors in a family consistently, she invested in the full-size pads in that color family (buying the whole set to get a bargain). If she didn't, she just used the spots. We all seem to stick to one or two of our favorite color families! This was the selling point for me even though I already had all the big ones.
I love how portable the spots are and take at least one set with me to each workshop for guests to try them out and so they can see them. Also, when I'm doing a stamp camp, I always have duplicates of each color so don't have to ask to borrow stamp pads from anyone!

Hi Cheryl (troublesmom) Welcome to the group. Yes, it will take forever to view all that's on here (or 7 days straight if you can afford to ignore your family!!!!! :lol: :lol: )
Spots are great, however, I seem to give them away one by one as prizes/incentives etc. I have bought ALL 4 groups over the past year and have only 7 or 8 spots left. So I just ordered the 12 black spots to give away. I decided to "invest" in ALL the classic large pads, however, there are some that are still in their wrappers. I think the more economical way to go is to buy the spots and THEN invest in the large pads that you use more of. This way, you demo both. Something I will have to switch over to doing. I haven't sold ANY spots, but then I haven't demoed them either.

heresrita--Did you just want all black spots? I wanted to suggest buying the the others b/c you will get sales credit. I know they are a little bit more, but hey, we can write it off.
I never knew we had these spotsfor like a year 1/2. I'm kinda sad that my upline never mentioned them. Or anyone else at our meetings. I see great potential to demo spots.
Stampin Spots
They are small enough to transport all of them easily without taking up a lot of space. Whenever I go to stamp or work on my scrapbook somewhere else I always take them along instead of the regular size pads. At one of my SU parties I invited all my scrapbooking friends. Once I showed them my spots, I had 5 out of the 9 attending buy at least one of the sets! I would recommend them to anyone just starting to stamp. That way you can get all of the colors without spending as much as you would by buying all the regular size pads. Also too you can then figure out which colors you like the best and buy those in the regular size. Sure it may take a little bit longer to ink up a bigger stamp but I thought it was worth it in the long run. Sorry for going on and on :oops: but I really do love them!
