Hi! I'm a newbie here on this site and very new to stamping. I just got my new Simply Said set yesterday and started making cards with blue flowers that look like forget-me-nots. How can I get a 3-D effect for the center of the flowers?
Crystal effect. I would squeeze some out on to a paper plate then add a drop of ink refill and mix, then use a stylus or toothpick to put on the centers.
I have been having fun with plastic beads lately for flower centers. They are inexpensive and add a really cool effect. Try using the faceted clear ones on your flowers and see how it dresses them up.

You can also just stick in a brad and call it good, lol! There are really lots of ways to add texture and dimension. You can also custom color brads by dipping the head in pigment (SU's Craft ink) ink and then in clear embossing powder and heat emboss.
Punch out a small circle of coordinating color cardstock and use a glue dot to stick it in the center.
A friend showed a cute and cheap trick. This works really well with punched flowers, too. Just knot a length of full 6-strands of embroidery thread that has been threaded in a needle, punch the needle thru the middle of the flower, knot side on top, trim both ends of the thread, taping the excess to the back of the flower and "fanning out" the top side. I hope this is clear enough, I had trouble understanding until my friend demo'd for me.

Rosalie - Do you by chance have a gallery with a card that used this technique? I thought I understood, but now I'm not so sure with the "fanning out" part. I first understood it as that you leave the knot on top and the ends get taped on the back?
mra - I absolutely love stickles and liquid pearls. I found them at a craft shop for $1.99 (not Michaels or Jo-Anns), less than what I paid for at a stamp store. I hadn't even heard of them until this site, and then I used them in a workshop. I teach first grade, so you can imagine how much glitter I use with them! I just finished some swap hydrangea cards. I just get impatient with them drying!

I think what she meant was that you would thread a neddle with the embroidery cotton, make a knot at on end, (not quite at the end of the thread) make a hole with the nedle in the center of the flower , pull it through to the back of the flower, cut of a little tail and stick that to the back of the flower. Now on the front of the flower where you have the knot with the little end hanging , separate the 6 strand of cotton and you have what could be the stamims of the flower center...You could use some kind of glue that will harden each strand of cotton so that they could stand up better.... please excuse my spelling..

Michael's, Jo-anns & ACMoore all have them. They are with the beads. They have packs in lots of colors, shapes,& sizes.
