I have to vouch for http://www.pennywisearts.com/ I placed an order and received them in a couple of days, great prices! She included some great instructions along with a red/white& blue beaded pen!!! Although I should have read the instructions about making the barrel filled beaded pens BEFORE I tried to figure out how she did it. (I never do like reading instructions, more of a hands on person.) Well, I took the end off and I finally figured out that the micro beads were LOOSE in the barrel while I was tipping the pen. Luckily I was over the counter and was able to put back most of the beads! Will gladly order from them in the future.

And be sure and check out the PennyWiseArts gallery:

Suzanne,
I have a question.....

How in the world do you get the beads into such small areas, such as in the beaded trading pins example on your site?

Hi NY Nan and all! At Penny Wise we use an adhesive called O'So Sticky Tape. It is a super strong tape that will really hold those beads right where you want them! The tape comes in a wide assortment of widths as well as in sheets - to fit any application you may have! I've heard tell that it'll hold a small elephant, but that claim has not been tested!! ;0)

I need some help with my micro beads! I used the sticky tape and wraped a ball point pen. I then rolled it in the micros beads. It sticks ok, but whenever i go to use the pen, the micro beads tend to fall off.

Any advice? i am new to using the beads.

Thanks,
Kris

It is VERY important that you try not to TOUCH the sticky of the tape at all Kris! The oils from your hands will interfere with the adhesive! Be sure your hands are clean and dry when working with the beads and tape, and remember that the tape likes to be WARM! After you bead your pen, roll it between your hands like in this attached picture - the heat from your hands will help "seat" the beads into the tape so that they will stay on!! I have pens that I use all the time and bead loss isn't a problem!!

Suzanne, what do you use to store your beads? Is that an empty stamp container?

Yep! It sure is!! My favorite size is the SU container that is just a bit bigger than a card front -- that way I can press my cards right into them! Each container will hold about 3 bags of our 3 ounce colored micro beads! I've been using them for about 18 months now, and they still stay shut as good as the day I got the bright idea!!

What a GREAT idea! I'll have to see what size my empty containers are. I will have to CASE that idea!

I also have to say that Penny Wise is amazing. This site lead me there and I just LOVE it! Thanks for the great customer service!

I'm not sure how big or small .5mm is, I'm just wondering if the clear are smaller than the clear at Michaels. The colored ones at Michaels are really small, but the clear are twice the size. I don't like them. I'm looking for what we called "sugar shake beads" in CA. They were just bigger than a granual of sugar but were round.

Default adhesive for micro beads

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone else think it was a mistake to include the clear beads in the catty and not include an adhesive like Peel n Stick double-sided adhesive sheets? What if you want to cover an entire stamped image (like a flower or snowman or whatever)? You can't do that with the red sticky tape. Personally, that is the way I would want to demo the beads - people always think it looks so cool. But I don't know any way of doing it without the sticky sheets. Am I missing something?

Default Well

I haven't looked hard enough, but I could have sworn they did add it, or I heard they did which doesn't mean they actually did. Rumours ran amock last week ~ some of which was just wishful thinking.

I'm still trying to figure out the actual size of everyone's beads. I was surprised Queen Penny Wise didn't answer yesterday, but maybe she didn't see it.

all http://www.pennywisearts.com/index.html microbeads are .5 mm in size
I still haven't seen what size the sticky tape is - that is in the new catalog.
I buy tape rolls and sheets from pennywise arts. I'm anxiously waiting to see if the SU tape is as sticky.

Well, that wasn't my question. I asked in comparison to what Michaels sells (as most people know what their competitors sell) are they smaller. .5mm means nothing to me. I need a comparison before I buy.

I have no idea what size Michael's sells, I tried to search on Michael's.com - but couldn't find them there!

.5 mm is roughly twice the size of a grain of salt! lol! That is the best thing I could come up with for you!! It's hard when everyone has a different name for the same durn thing isn't it!?

There is something called Sugar Dust (we don't have it yet) but that is a very fine bead that is closer in texture to glitter.

The new SU beads are .8 mm - which are a bit bigger than ours...

Get out your salt shaker and see if this helps at all!! ;0)

That works! Michaels.com doesn't sell them, I just thought maybe if you had seen them in the store. It's weird, the colored ones are smaller than the clear and that just seems backwards to me. The grain of salt works. They are round right, so they roll all over if you spill them. Making sure I have the particulars so I don't have to do a return.

Yes! They are very round!! I spilled just a tad on the table last night and didn't notice it. When I set my plate down, it rolled across to the other side! It was spooky! At least I have beads to blame - otherwise I'd have thought we had a ghost!! LOL!!

Cool!! Last two questions. 1. Do I have to have a Pay Pal account to purchase and 2. for just one bag of clear about how much is the shipping? It doesn't tell you until you try and check out.

I know, we need to SERIOUSLY revamp that old website! I am hoping to get that done this Fall!

To answer your questions:

1. You do not have to have Paypal - you can email your order to me directly, ( [email protected] ) I'll add the shipping (and tax if in WA) and let you know how much to send. You are welcome to send a check for your purchase - so long as you keep all the rubber ones for yourself! ;0)

2. The simplest shipping method we have been able to implement is based on dollar amounts. Orders under $6 are sent via first class mail and the charge is $2. From $6 to $65 will fit into a Flat Rate Envy for $3.85.

Looking forward to serving you!!

Default Need Help!

Could someone do a quick and dirty on how to use the microbeads? I do have some and have tried to play around with them using the double stick tape, but my beads still fall off. I tried heating the pen to see if the beads would stick better, but they still flake off whenever I go to use the pen.

How do you use them on cards? How do you cut the tape to fit within your stamped image? I am anxious to use a little sample I bought, but really don't know where to start.

Thanks!

Did you also read the post earlier in this thread about getting them to stick on pens? Queen penny wise was answering the same question. That might help some.

If you go to pennywisearts.com and join the yahoo group, there is a listing on the left edge - "files"
In there you will find a file called "classes"
In there you will finda class called "back to beading basics"
Everything you need to know to make those little beadies stick tight.
You need a sheet of tape to stamp on and cut out to fit your images.
You can also punch out shapes to bead. The O'So sticky tape really makes them stick tight.
I'm going to try the SU tape tomorrow and see if it works the same.
I've used the O'So sticky tape for a while now and nothing beats it.
Probably not quick and dirty like you wanted but hope it helps

queenpennywise - I saw your post on "how to's with micro beads" and you had mentioned to not play with your beads due to the oils from your hands getting on them and that you had learned this the hard way with a 50# bag of micro beads!

My immediate thought about the 50# bag of beads was - is she nuts! She will never save any pennies if she buys 50# of micro beads, she couldn't use that many in a lifetime -

now I see that you actually sell them

I feel better now about your micro bead "obsession"

Seriously though, I try to promote what I like and I definitely love your products and your service! We hear too many negative comments and feedback in society today! It's rare that people call Customer Service to tell them that people are doing a GREAT job! So, I thought I would try to be opposite!
