TLC16 - Won't you come out and play with us??
Please put TLC16 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread.

Ok, here is this week's challenge: "Valerie's Definition Sheets"
What is this?? You create your own background sheet that is similar to the "By Definition" stamp using a word of your choosing, a web-based dictionary, and a word-processing program on your computer.
Here's a link to how to do it:
Forums at Splitcoaststampers
I would like to thank Cindy Lyles for posting this thread, and Valerie for coming up with idea! These ladies are both very talented artists! I think this week's challenge is going to be a lot of fun.
I used an online thesaurus rather than a dictionary to create mine. I copied and pasted the synonyms for 'friend' into Word.

I guess I am too computer challenged to do this. When I copy and paste a definition it is a messy format with underline. I tried to put it into column form, but it is still not like yours(I have gaps and spaces) and it won't let me take the underline away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love all the cards linked to this technique and I really want to try it. You are all so helpful I am hoping someone can guide me through this:-) thanks

Valerie,
When you go to paste what you've copied, don't use the keyboard short cut (ctrl + v). What you want to do to get rid of any special formatting from the site you're copying from is, in your word document, click on edit, then "paste special." This will bring up a dialogue box. Choose "Unformatted text" and then "ok" and -- voil! There you go.
I did something similar to this last year by copying a page out of the dictionary. If you don't have a printer but have access to a copy machine it's a neat variation and especially great for making your own full sheet background paper. Here's the card I did:

My Father's Day Card
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
In my continuing struggle with a lack of masculine stamps, I came up with this in conjunction with today's challenge. My dad loves cars, so he should like this. I used the definitions for "father", "dad", and "daddy". The latter happened to included Granddaddy, which is what my son calls my dad, so it turned out really well. Thanks so much y'all!

Thanks so much Heather. I got it to work pretty well and I loved your card:-) Thanks for sharing that and all the help and the idea of copying the dictionary. You were a wealth of advice for me. I knew someone here on SCS would help me because I see it every time I am on the site:-) Thanks again, so much. I am off to try a card. Val

I did one for my DH for Father's Day a while back. I also used a thesaurus instead of a dictionary.

Mine's up. I also used a thesaurus but just repeated all the names and not all the bibliographic information.

Here is my contribution. This one took me quite a while to make as I wanted to put many translations of the word love for a well-travelled friend who is getting married. I found some online translators, but each word had to be individaully copy & pasted, then I had to decide how I wanted it all formatted (more playing time). I really wanted to make the metallic medallion with the Happy Wedding Day stamp from AYCIII, but don't have it yet so had to improvise.

Now off to make a Father's Day card.

I made a card for my mom's 80th birthday. I used the dictionary entry for octogenarian to create the background. I then made it a little subtler by layering it behind Lilac vellum. I then put a text box over another section of the background to write out the greeting "Happy Birthday" for the top layer

can't get my cards scanned
I seem to be having some trouble with my scanner...I was able to make four cards today. Unfortunately, since I can't scan them, I can't share them with you. I can describe one of them for you. (I won't describe all four, that would be tedious)
I printed the definition for birthday in several different colors on very light gray paper. I then tore the paper into strips. I glued them randomly onto black paper...just any which way. Tore some black paper, a very small piece. Tore a smaller piece of the gray (stamped very small happy birthday on it three times). Glued the gray to the black, then the black on top of all of the definitions. (just off center) All torn edges are scattered with microfine silver glitter.
I was just goofing around with the scraps, but it turned out very nice. Hopefully, I will be able to have DH fix the scanner tonight, since he just got home from work, and then get the picture up here.

Thanks for the info on this technique challenge Beth! I gave it a whirl - realized afterwards that I printed the WRONG definition of "party". Whoopsie!

Thanks to help from WordTrix, I got mine done. It is my last graduation card for this year. I tried to personalize all my grad cards this year by copying the announcement and using parts of it on the card. Everyone loved them. I wish I would have scanned copies of them all for myself, but I didn't. Next year hopefully I will remember! Here is the link:

I used this technique modified a little for a graduation card I made a week or so ago. It is in my gallery. I've made another one this evening but every time I try to upload the card it kicks me off the site after a few minutes.
I'll attach a thumbnail until I can get it into my gallery.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Well, I tried the Foxy Oxi technique and it was really frustrating me, so I just sprayed a light bleach solution on cardstock I had really saturated with sponge and reinkers. Had to dry it really fast with a paper towel, but I loved it and then used the Wonderful Wings. I have been trying to figure out what to do with it for a week, and it just seemed to match this challenge.

Here's my card. I had to wait for DH to go to bed before I could put it together. It's simple, but that's what he will like. I couldn't help to add the ribbon, which he will think is too frilly. He will appreciate it because I made...he better ;-) Enjoy!

OK, my scanner didn't pick up the copper color of the stamped words, they are not orange, they are copper. Although the orange looks good.

Here's my first one (have to try this again later). This is the first card I've ever made without putting an image on it. It's all text. Not sure that I love it, but it fits the challenge.

I finally got around to doing this challenge. I made two right away, using the word "flower" for one and "bloom" for the other. I made up the sheets yesterday. I had the day off, so of course I didn't really feel like stamping. However, today I have to go to work, so I was feeling especially creative, it figures!

Can I use this as an entry? This is my first attempt at a challenge.
I had posted this on Sunday. It is part of a card booklet I made for my sister's 50th birthday.

Well yes Beth, having this as a challenge did finally get me to try Valerie's Definition Sheets. I have made a few backgrounds but this is the only card so far. I also want to thank Kaylyn Butler Conover who posted the RGB codes for all the S-U colors allowing me to tailor my definitions to match the cardstock. This card combines TLC16 with CC14:

Here is my card for the challenge. It is really quirky as I just had these sets delivered on Tuesday by Brown.
I fixed my card,,, did the embossing and color change and pop dots. I like it better.
The card came together nicely and I kept building until I got it right to suit me. Hope you enjoy it too. I think I will give it to my nephew for his birthday next week as he is into farm stuff and John Deere really big. He will be five.
