TLC68 - String Fling
Ok, there will be no 'flinging' of string, but it sounded catchy!
Today's challenge is from 'dpierstamper' (Deb). This cool technique was featured in May's VSN, and she graciously agreed to let me copy her great directions here. Thanks so much Deb!
Search the gallery for MAY06VSNP to see some examples.
Here's what you do. Select some reinkers that would you like to use. You will need a corresponding number of cups. I use those little Dixie cups that only hold a couple of ounces. You will also need some string, recycled from packaging or just a cheap piece of cotton craft string.
You may want to wear rubber gloves if you don’t like the pretty color reinker will leave on your fingers. Put several drops of reinker in your small cup. Cut pieces of string about 12 to 18 inches long. Drop a piece of string into the ink. Press the string into the ink and let it set while you get the rest ready. Cover your workspace with newspaper or other protection as this gets messy during the process.
Use a piece of light cardstock. Either fold the cardstock in half expecting to get two pieces of usable backgrounds from one piece of paper or have a piece of scrap paper handy and cut your cardstock to a size slightly larger than what you need for a card front. Place your cardstock on the newspaper and loop and swirl the dyed string over the top. Place the folded half of the cardstock on top so you have a sandwich of paper, string, and paper. You will leave a small end of the string hanging out of the sandwich. Now place the flat of you hand on the top layer, spread your fingers apart, and apply firm pressure to hold the sandwich together. I usually stand up while I do this to keep the pressure on the top piece of paper. As you press with one hand, pull the string end with the other. Continue to apply pressure with the flat of you hand while you pull the string loose. Use one color, two colors, three or more. Use a new piece of string with each color. The CS should dry quickly and then you can either stamp on top or layer on top of it to create your card. BE CAREFUL! As you pull this out there will be some splattering and the string will dye anything it touches such as countertops. Paper towels come in handy.
I look forward to seeing all your creations!
As always, I am in search of suggestions for techniques for future TLCs! Please PM with suggestions and a link to the directions and/or a sample if you can. Thanks!
As always, if you have questions, please ask. If you have suggestions, please share!
When you upload, please put TLC68 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread.
If you need help loading to the gallery, or posting a link, check out this thread: Forums at Splitcoaststampers
If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN' !!

Awwwww, I wanted to play, and I have no reinkers! I can't find any in town, so I'll have to wait for a SU order to get them. ::::::POUT::::::: It looks like fun, though, and I can't wait to see everyone's creations!

Food coloring or poster paints work as well, just heat set them using a heat gun to dry before continuing

I would guess that embroidery floss, crochet cotton, yarn, thread, or even narrow ribbon could be used in place of string. Improvise!

If I get myself busy today I might be able to play tomorrow. Am looking forward to seeing the great creations today, though. This looks like a really kewl technique!

Ohh, this sounds fun! I only have 2 reinkers so I don't have a lot of choices but I think it might work.

I love making a mess and today I created a good one. Made my string art with reinker. Also embossed white ep to make white brads and then dyed a white one red (?) to set the flower, but it turned out more pink than red. Here's my card

I wasn't so sure I was going to do this one, until I started seeing some of the great ideas...I only have two reinkers...so here's my try! Also, did it in conjunction with last weeks sketch challenge, it helped tone down the business a bit...(pending as of 1:26pm EST)

Did you try the plastic ziplock bag to ink your string?

No I used cups. How much ink do you leave on the string? That may be part of my problem. Thanks!

OK here's my card. I had a tough time with the colors I had to work with. I like the background, but I don't like how my focal image looks with it. I tried it sevral times and this is the best I could do. I'll have to try again when I have more re-inkers or dig out my food coloring.
