CD/DVD Gift Envelope
I am going to try to explain how to make this neat envelope, but not sure how clear it will be.
I used the cardboard mailing envelope that an Earthlink CD was mailed in as my pattern.
It needed slight adjustments to fit a 12x12 piece of cardstock. Be sure to measure your cardstock accurately before laying out the pattern since some 12x12 is smaller than others. If yours is too short, adjust on the flaps, making them a bit narrower.
Use the diagram I drew as reference (CDEnvy.jpg). NOTE: not drawn to scale.
This will take some playing with, folding and flipping until you get the sides right, it can be confusing, especially if you've not seen the actual project, but with patience you'll get it figured out and see how easy it is once you've made a couple !
Looking at the diagram, the right two squares are going to make the pocket. There is a horizontal score line between the two and vertically along the left sides. Do not stamp this side that is facing up since these are the two sides that need to be glued together, fold them toward each other along this horizontal score line. Insert ribbon, etc in between them before gluing if you wish. Be sure to glue the tab along the bottom right side edge inside when making the pocket, too. You can use a coluzzle or whatever you might have on hand to draw/cut the half ovals for the CD to be removed easier from the pocket. The half oval in the middle of the lower portion is not removed, only cut along the curve to make a sort of "flap" to help hold the CD in place. This could be optional I suppose if you'd rather another complete side to decorate. This half oval "flap" will be on the back of the pocket, but inside the envelope.
The reverse sides of the far right squares are the insides of the envelope, be sure to decorate. The top one will be upside down, the bottom is right side up. Be sure to rotate your cardstock after turning it over when decorating if you have a right way/wrong way design otherwise it'll be upside down ! It might help to play with all of the folds, etc first on a scrap piece to make a pattern, then put notes on them to let you know which way is which when you are ready to decorate so your designs aren't upside down. Sticky notes on the actual project noting which way is up might be helpful as well !
The left two squares will be the covers. As this diagram is laid out, you are looking at the outside front cover at the top (but it will be upside down) and the outside back cover (right side up) at the back. The horizontal line between these two squares is to be cut. Fold along the vertical score lines to the underside of the right side squares. The far left flap will wrap around the front, decorate the edge and add ribbon, etc as you wish.
I�ve labeled the sections to correspond with additional photos I can email. The front of the pattern are letters A-D, the back would be numbers 1-4. Sides B and D are glued together. A and C are the outside of the covers. 1 and 3 create the pocket; 2 and 4 are the inside of the covers.
After reading these instructions, I am certain they are going to totally confuse you. I'm sorry but without being able to show you hands on, it doesn't make much sense. Best of luck in deciphering these instructions and the accompanying diagram.
