Default Anyone feel a little let down by new catty?

I got mine yesterday and looked through the entire thing 2x last night. I'm not as thrilled about it as I thought I would be. I don't know if it's because I read about most of it on here beforehand? Or if I'm just not too thrilled about the sets and accessories.

Don't get me wrong...there are some wonderful new things that are in there (starter kits, ink holder, etc), but it didn't WOW me like I had hoped :(

Anyone else feel that way? I'm not being negative...just a little disappointed after all of the anticipation and hype.

I sort of feel the same way. Maybe it's something as silly as seeing the stamps in gray versus black. I was hoping for some new accessories (Twinkling H2Os or better ribbon or more fun eyelets). Also, I just started stamping/became a demo earlier this year and haven't begun collecting Fall/Halloween/Christmas sets yet and the catalog was sort of weak here. I think the Holiday mini is supposed to be good though.

Anyway, in a way I was sort of relieved in that I have already spent so much money on the sets I do have and there aren't a huge number that I love more than the ones I already have. I'm going to go give them a hug.

There's still plenty I'll want but just wanted to let you know you're not alone in feeling that way.

yeah, I was a bit disappointed with the new catty. I don't know if this is because this is my first year as a demo and first time seeing a NEW catty. My first time seeing an SU! catalog was last years and I fell in love with it right away. But I was REALLY hoping to see more Christmas/Winter, Halloween/Fall and Birthday sets. I do love all the new shape sets. Very versatile there. And there are some new nice "saying/word" sets. Very disappointed they didn't replace a set to compensate for the loss of Fun Faces. Thought there would be more accessories. But overall, there are many sets that I'm sure to get. Can't wait to see the Holiday Mini though.

I felt the same way about last year's catalog, but after seeing card samples done with the sets, it seemed to grow on me. :?
I wasn't too thrilled with the samples done with this year's pre-order sets (and I still don't like any of those except maybe Shapes and Shadows), but I think some of the new sets have potential; On the Beach, and In Full Bloom look like winners to me!
It always takes a little time to absorb everything.

Also, I can't believe they didn't have a set to replace "Many Thanks" and "Happy Healing". Those are staples for stamp camps, IMO.

Default New Catalog

I was really impressed with the new catalog, a little disappointed in the accessories, but I love several of the new sets. This catalog is much better than last year's cattie. I was disappointed to see paper clay wasn't included in the new catalog. I was just getting good at using it.

I wish they would post what is going on at convention like they did last yerar. What is up with that?

They are, but VERY hidden! Logon, and click on Special Events, then Convention 2004 updates. It is done each night, but there's not really any news there. I guess that's going to be in the new stampin' success.

We've definitely got our fingers on the pulse here at scs!

I felt that way last year, but also got excited about it once I saw all the great cards people were making. I love this year's catty. However, when making my wish list, I noticed it was a lot of shape sets, backgrounds, and words/alphabets. I usually have more sets w/images on my list. I do wish they had done more with accessories; however, I think there will be more of that in the Mini catalogs - which is why they are expanding them.

Don't worry ladies, once you see all the great samples people start making, those sets will come alive.

I'm sure once I see what everyone has done with the sets here I will get excited about them! Just like the monkey set...I didn't care for it at all when I first saw it, but all of the cute cards that I've seen on here have actually made me consider purchasing it!

Maybe it's a good thing that there isn't much in there that I want...I DON'T need to spend the money! LOL

I expected more accessories...brads in shapes, more eylets, etc. Making Memories has such a great line of that type of thing and I had hoped SU! would have jumped on the wagon and put some things in our catty like that!

Maybe it's PMS?!

I haven't gotten mine yet - my demo said she is going to drop mine off when she gets hers - hopefully by the weekend...

Personally I think I am going to be in trouble this year - I am pretty good at reigning in what I am spending and choose stamp sets that are year-round versitile (Figures of Speech, Tags and More, etc...) rather than stamp sets for specific holidays or seasons or style (i.e all flowers, all leaves, all cars).

However, looking at some of the samples on this site I am awed - when I saw Shapes and Shadows at first I was thinking - Oh it's OK - nothing I NEED - well after all the great samples that have been posted - it is on the top of my wish list...

Plus I think if you are relitively new to stamping and haven't gotten into a lot of techniques you look at sets differently...I know I did when I first began stamping...

So I have a feeling SCS is going to cause me to spend a lot more money with my Demo this year, besides the fact that I HAVE to spend $25 a month with a Stamp Club I am in ....

The other thing to keep is mind is that the mini catalogs are going to have a lot more in them - lot of sets and accessories. I thought the new word stamps were a big plus, wasn't as impressed with the shapes that took the place of Shape of Things and Little Shapes. But...I agree, when we start seeing the end results, I can guarantee we will be wowed! Joni

I'm confused ~ is it Simple Shapes or Shapes and Shadows? It sounds like people are talking about the same set, but not calling it the same thing. (This being the set with the shape and then the outline of the shape.)

They are still available, just not in craft ink yet. Apparently people were hoping for that.

This is probably my fifth new catalog introduction (can't believe I've been stamping that long!). Although I haven't actually received this year's yet, I know that I will feel sentimental towards the "old" one. It will definately take some getting used to, but that is part of the whole process.

I'm a first grade teacher and the same thing happens every September, getting used to a new class. You see the second graders in the hall and think "ohhh" but then you get used to the new ones and they are "your class".

Can't wait to get that catty and see what's what for myself. I am loving all the spoilers! So fun. I am most anxious to see the mermaids that "go with" fishy friends and the new summertime set!

I'm really glad that people are honest enough to say that they are a little (or a lot) disappointed in the new catalog. I've only been stamping - really stamping - since February, so this will be my first new catalog too. I'd love for there to be some really nice Christian Christmas sets, but not sure if we'll have that.

I absolutely LOVE some of the very versatile flower sets I have:

Terrific Tulips
Love Without End
Watercolor Garden
Watercolor Minis
Petal Prints

Are there any new flower sets that would be versatile like these are?? Actually I think I'll include that question as a separate post.

Thanks,
Susan

They actually have a picture of the Stampin' Spots in the catty...that way they are more visible to the customers and they know what to expect!

Me too. I was really disappointed in the punches that didn't make it back in. Also this is the first catty in the last three years where when I looked at it I felt I had to have something in there. Maybe we just need some time to get use to it. I sure hope my customers are more thrilled than I am. Carol

Thank you!! Next questions ~ Shapes and Shadows ~ new catty? Is this one that was in a mini or is it a hostess or is it a regular set? I was moving and missed a mini period.

I think shapes and shadows was given out at regionals...this is the first catalog that it's in for purchase.

Okay ~ in NC at regionals they were given Simple Shapes. I wonder if different locations received different sets. TOTAL CONFUSION!!

How much is Shapes and Shadows? I like that one a lot more than Simple Shapes even though I'm sure I'll end up buying the shapes to replace the one that's being retired.

Default new caty disappointment...

I too got my cattys today (according to tracking should not have been here till tomorrow but... I opened them anyway) and after feeding my 7 kids, (child care-none of them mine, whew) and getting them down for nap, finally sat down with my catty in hand.

My first thought was "I don't like the grey images!!!!
none of the hostess sets jumped out at me as HAVE TO HAVE SETS either although we had already had our sneak preview of those.

Maybe after 9 years with SU I have just seen too much and that makes me a bit harder to please. Still plenty to keep me going, hopefully another year-gotta make 10!!!!

I really like the new NOBLE DEER and the BAREBACK (horses) sets.
also FINTASTIC with the cute mermaids but would like to see a more real, not cartoony set. a lot of the catty is sketchy and/or cartoony. Must be the trend that everyone is asking for over the last few years.

I have waited and waited for a nice, large pretty unicorn set and the couple we have had are not what I am looking for!!!

great potential for ALL WRAPPED UP for shapers and water cards!!

would have liked to see something to replace TheSHAPE OF THINGS for making mirror images. A long time ago we did have just a large mounted piece of rubber for that, wish they would bring that back.

Well, enough I suppose, better check on the munchkins sleeping,
Hope you all get your cattys soon,'

I'm usually a little let down after seeing the new catty, I guess I get so used to the format of the previous one, but after looking at it daily, it grows on me. But this time, I liked it immediately. I'm not saying I love every stamp set, (but I do like most) but also the format of this one is tremendous! I really like how it is laid out. And the gray images don't really bother me.

Default Now that the New catalog is here? My opinion...

Hi everyone!
I sure hope you have gotten your catalog by now. I must say this is my first actual catty debut. It sure looks to me like they were ALL sent from the SAME place, out of Portland, OR if anyone has another place please let us know. To follow up on that 'shipped from' I wonder WHY it's taken SO long for some to get cattys.
This is NOT good planning by SU, it really puts us in a bind, if we want to order favorite sets from the current catty some demos may only have an afternoon to do it in. (as an example cuddles & tickles has been very popular for my customers, I wanted to wait and see if the new set would be better, I do like the new set Welcome little one, but gosh Where does that leave Baby Firsts & Baby Time Wheel?? This make me dizzy trying to figure out WHAT to do!
I think SU caters to the Convention goers, and doesn't give any consideration to those who don't attend or can't attend.
I DO like the format of the catalog, it seems more organized I still think that Florals and Nature should be in the same catagory. I Really like the new Getting Started Kits.

I agree with this---> would like to see a more real, not cartoony set. a lot of the catty is sketchy and/or cartoony. Must be the trend that everyone is asking for over the last few years.

I could go on...but I'll stop for now, whew!

Well, I LIKE IT A LOT! I know at first glance the one thing I did NOT like was the grey images-I don't know why, but they look a bit washed out. BUT, I think it is a good overall catalog and I like the new sets for beginners, and the scrapbook sets in 12 x 12-I think that is a HUGE improvement. At first I didn;t think I would NEED a lot of new stuff, but now I have a LARGE wish list. Can't wait to see the holiday mini as well!

I think it takes time for the catalog to grow on me, so to speak. I know once I see all the great samples posted here, I will feel more excited about some of the new sets. I'm also, not really crazy about alot of the samples in this catty. That's another thing that will probably grow on me after the shock of the change has worn off.

I absolutely hate the numbers at the top. I don't have last year's book next to me but they must have been at the bottom cause I keep looking toward the bottom when I was looking for the page number with a friend. Frustrating!!

All in all though, it's SU and I love SU, so it's all good. Think I'll go thumb through once again. And having said all that, I still have an order planned for myself on Monday, LOL!

CPSTAMPER....I know what you mean about the page numbers! I was looking through it with my upline and we both kept looking at the bottom for the number...that's something I'll get used to.

I really love the new catalog and all the new ideas that go along with it. I was surpised we will no longer carry Hermafix and the tabs and also noticed that they kept a Simply Scrappin' Campout kit but not the stamp set to go with it. I wish the catalog would just get bigger!!!

Hey all, I am new in here, I have to agree about the new catty...Little disappointed here :( There are some awesome stamp sets, I love the new ones, but I was most dissappointed in the ideas, the cards weren't as great as I thought they would be...I love the new kits, I think that is a great idea, specially for the ones just starting out..I didn't really care to much for the cover, it was just kinda blahhhh...I am excited about it though, it just wasn't as WOW as I thought it would be...

I really like the new catalog too. It did feel like there were not as many stamp sets though (for sure with the Christmas sets) but that could be because of the new expanded minis. And I wish the wheels were listed in the back like before. The one new set that I love is the multiple word set towards the back (the one you can use with the magnet sheets). I just love it and all the different saying for cards you can make out of it - plus it's great for scrapbooking too! The kits are for sure a great idea too!!

I am really excited about the simply scrappin kits! They are laid out so well to see what you are getting! I've been a little bit leary about jumping into SU! for my scrapbooks, but this will be just the push I need to get started!!!!
