Default Oh The Horror! started out stamping related anyway...

Yesterday started off wonderfully, my friend was coming over at 11 to stamp so I told the kids at about 10 to go downstairs and pick up the basement. All good. friend comes over, we start making cards, I check on the kids progress periodically (it was a HUGE mess) and around noon I am expecting them to really be about done. So, I go downstairs and nothing is done, theyve been watching movies and playing. Now Im getting a little irritated and I tell them they cant have any friends over until its picked up and I go back upstairs. So about 1pm their friends call wanting to come over and play and I tell the friends they cant come until the kids are finished and I go tell the kids that their friends are waiting thinking that will hurry them up. So, another hour goes by, now they are all hungry and the basement still isnt picked up. So I tell them all to come upstairs and eat and then to go back down and finish. Now I will regress to a couple of days before this for some background to the horror that is to follow J A couple of days ago they all came upstairs with their entire bodies painted with dd's oil pastel crayons, all over their cheeks, armpits, arms, legs, everything. I wasnt terribly upset because it washes off skin and it was kinda funny, especially the circles in the armpits J So, now back to the present. They eat lunch and we all go back downstairs and by this time they have picked up enough that I can see the floor. Oh my. The entire floor, from one end of the basement to the other is covered in bright streaks of ground in oil pastel! I mean a million little bits smeared and ground and streaked in a veritable rainbow. I was sooooo mad. I went upstairs and burst into tears (my friend had just gone home) and was sitting at the table sobbing when dh came home. He said whats the matter and I sobbed theyve ruined the carpet, its all ruined! So he went downstairs and read them the riot act big time. So now they are in high gear picking up as fast as they can and ds#1 is feeling bad because Im crying so he decides to be helpful. He gets the steam vac out of the closet and fills up the water tank with cold water and is just about to turn it on when I swear God must have told him to check with me first. So he comes up stairs and tells me he is planning to clean it up and I told him not to try to clean it up as it will just make it a lot worse and smear it all over the place even more. At this point I didnt realize he was going to use the steam vac, I just thought he was going to use paper towels and water. So he goes back down and empties the tank in the bathroom sink but unbeknownst to ds#1, dd had earlier that day decided for some unknown reason to put toilet paper in the sink so when he poured the water out all the toilet paper clogged up the sink drain and the sink quickly filled up with water and ran all over the top and floor. This time he didnt come tell me but tried to fish it out all by himself. So about 15 minutes go by and I went down there for something and I kept smelling something. I was asking them what the smell was and no one could come up with anything and I couldnt figure it out so I went back upstairs. A few minutes later I went back down and noticed that the smell was really strong coming from the boys bedroom. So I go in there and the smell is really strong and sitting in the closet is the vacuum cleaner with paper towels sticking out of the bottom and the motor smells like burnt toast. At this point I am considering running away from home. So I haul the vacuum upstairs, pick all the wadded up paper towels and string from around the beater bars and pray it will work when I plug it in. It did but boy does it stink! So, I go back downstairs again, and open the bathroom door and lo and behold, I surmise the reason dd had put toilet paper in the sink was in an attempt to clean up the toothpaste that she had smeared all over the entire countertop and all down the front of the cabinet. So now, Im wondering if you can sell kids on ebay. Thankfully we had a birthday party to go to last night and got a babysitter, it was just in the nick of time.
Today was a new day, I managed to not think about the basement for a little while until about 2 hours ago when ds#2 came running up the stairs screaming his head off and blood streaming out of his mouth. ds#1 had kicked both of his front teeth out.

If you see a wild woman running down the middle of the highway tonight, its me.

I think you need to treat yourself to a new stamp set to make up for all of that!

dang!
whatta story!

another thread had a tip...
(Tongue in cheek, in a chipper Martha voice... )
"If you wrap kids up in chicken wire, and then cover that with duct tape, then children can be stored on a utility hook conveniently out of harm's way"

I think of it often, ds-3 is a einstein-houdini that I love too much...!

good luck with your last nerve!

Not to brush off your day, but it sure makes me feel a little better to know I am NOT the ONLY one who has days like that. My kids are no angels....some days yes, some days are JUST like what you described! Some times when people have the "every day is wonderful" in my family "my kids are angels" front......I think what is wrong with me????? BUT I know it is just not everyone is honest about the days like that! Hope you are having a better day, and remember this to will pass......and when quite a few have passed you can tell the story with half a smile and not feel your stomach tighten with anger! Sounds like you could use a day away having lunch & stampin with friends!

i swear it sounds like a day at my house. i am so sorry about your day i hope that today is going better for you!!!! once when my kids were really bad and i knew my hubby was on his way home i made signs for my kids that said free to a good home. and sent them up to the road. well i live in the country and my drive way is 2 acres long so i knew they had time to get there before hubby got home well they made it to the street just as he was pulling in they thought they were safe cuz dad was home. but then they had to explain why they had those signs. that night was so peaceful.

Oh wow!!! What a day! Just think of the stories you will be able to tell your grandkids about their parents though! AND, when your kids are grown and say, "Mom, you won't believe the day I had" you can smile and say, "Oh yes, I can!" **hugs**

Well, after reading this I feel a little bit better about the fact that my youngest dd tried to see how many popsicle sticks she could put down the toilet and still flush this Friday night. - just so you all know - 2 clogs the toilet enough to flood the bathroom!

I can't imagine the chaos if your kids and mine got together! I don't think there are enough stamp sets in the world to make up for the destruction they could cause. I don't have days like that, I'm having whole years like that! Someday they will all leave and I will wish that I had my sweet babies back. Right now, boarding school sounds like a wonderful option!!!!!

Take deep breaths and lots of pictures. You can at least scrapbook all of this mess to laugh about at a later date (like when your kids are 40)!!!!
My ds #1 knocked his two front teeth out on his younger brother's head. So my ds has been without his 2 front teeth now for 2 years (he is 5, so i'm hoping they come in soon).
Thanks for sharing. It helps to know that we are all in the same boat!!

One of my favorite thoughts is: "Grandchildren are a parents revenge!" Our 25 year old son has a son to match and exceed his antics. He has been known to call at 2 a.m. in the morning asking how to cope. His wife had gotten in the car to drive around and left him until she was ready to face the kids again. My husband and I have many a good chuckle. We LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! our grandchildren and our dear daughter-in-law.

Oh, I am so sorry! It seems like that kinda stuff comes in big groups, doesn't it? My husband calls these chocolate moments. :-) He says it's cheaper than Prozac. Hugs to you, and get yourself some good chocolate and stamps!

Take pictures to use as evidence to go with your story when they get older and you tell them "I hope you have kids JUST like YOU". :-) What is it with boys?

Oh, what a day you have had. Take a deep breath and count to 10, at least that is what my 5 yr. old tells me when I am about to lose it with him. Mine have been home for summer vacation for 1 week and I am ready to run for the hills. So, if I see you running down the middle of the street screaming like a wild woman, I will pick you up as I am speeding out of town.
p.s. get your son to a dentist asap about those teeth.

I have tears in my eyes while I am laughing. I dont know what to do first....laugh or cry.
You need to treat yourself to 2 new stamp sets and a bunch of ink pads.
You deserve it girl!
I printed your story out to read to my DH and he couldnt believe it.
Take care......oh and take a bubble bath too!

Ahhhh, thanks ladies. Today is indeed a new day. Bright sunshine this morning, everyone is getting along so far and we have basketball camp today yaay! Thank goodness the front teeth were baby teeth and ds#2 is all fine now, even a bit proud to show off his new wound and cute little lisp. He is a bit grossed out by the fact that he swallowed his teeth though ;) I really do have the best kids, they are really great, they just went berserkers this weekend! Thanks for all the great comments, I don't know how to stick them in here and reply to them in my post but I loved them all! You all are such a pick me up!

HUGS! I have two preschoolers and I am starting to notice that any moment I get to myself never comes free of consequence . . . . Take pictures of all these things this year, compile them into a book and show them to DH right before Mother's Day next year . . . you could profit nicely.

Well, I did take pictures of the little mangled mouth but I was too emotionally distraught to take a picture of the mess in the basement at the time. It's all cleaned up now (not the carpet, still not sure what to do about that) so maybe I should just go take a picture of the carpet I think I am going to go pray over my steam vac and see what happens when I use hot water I'll let you all know if it works!

I frequently wonder if the military has a preschool!!!!!! It is nice to share stories, It is helpful to know we are not the only ones!!! I can remember my mother (very clearly) saying to me "I hope you have kids just like you when you grow up!) Well I guess she got her wish when ds#2 came along! I see her grinning to herself frequently as I'm venting to her about the boys!!!! I'll have to try the sign on them trick....I to live in the country, and dh comes home same time.....might be funny!!

sounds to me like some kids need to go have a sleep-over at grandma's house for a day or two!! Best of luck, and remember eventually we will be able to laugh!!

Thank goodness they were only baby teeth!!

Your a saint, I would have ran and not looked back..................LOL:shock: I thought my day was bad today when my 11 year old son came home and informed me thats its not legal for me to take the computer away from him for no reason. "Its unconstitutional."
I reminded him that it was his back talking and disrespect that caused him to lose the computer.(only for the weekend) He failed to remember that.;)
I couldn't imagine being a kid today. My mother did always warn me that I would have a child that acted just like me. I guess shes getting the last laugh. She reminded me of the time I put butter and eggs on the kitchen floor and went sliding across it because it was fun.
Hang in there and remember tomorrow is another day. (thats what I keep saying anyways.)

All good. friend comes over, we start making cards, I check on the kids progress periodically (it was a HUGE mess) and around noon I am expecting them to really be about done.

I think we may have swapped kids at birth - honestly, my kids do this stuff all the time!!! but you did make me laugh!!!

HOLY COW!!!!! It's good that every day is not like that, but they do seem to get bunched together - like a test or something. I believe you passed, the children are still mostly alive and you can still type so your brain is still functioning.
Thanks for sharing, my past few days don't really seem to matter now.

I feel your pain!!! (((((((HUGS TO YOU ))))))))))))))

My husband travels a lot for business and let me tell you there is some sort of horrible incident that happens when he's gone. Once my DS flushed cars down the toilet (he wanted to see if they could swim?), twice our dogs ran away (somedays I say - let 'em go) and most recently, our A/C went out when the house was upper 80-90s inside. Basically, the minute my husband's foot exits the house, something breaks or collapses!

And my mom said I was a really well-behaved child, so since our kids are holy terrors, they must be taking after my husband's side of the family! This is what I tell myself at night... ;)

Glad you are having a better day today. That's alot of kids in 2 years, and they are definately old enough to know better. I have noticed lately that my 9yo is getting a little out of control lately, must be entering a new phase...
