I am reorganizing my stamp area ... and need a better way to store my punches. I had them all in iris cart drawers ... but it seems that I didn't use them very much since I couldn't just "grab" them and use them. What does you use to store your punches?
For now mine are in the drawers of my Iris cart. I have seen all the ideas on using the hanging shoe bags and I think I will attempt to make one to suit my needs.
I have a couple of yards of netual canvas and our Wal-Mart sells a heavy clear vinyl. I will measure out the sizes I need for the different size punches and see what I can come up with that I can hang on the side of my closet where I stamp.
Don't expect pictures too soon, I'm in slow motion lately! LOL

I store all my punches in one of those plastic shoe storage organizers that hang over a door. Got it at Wally world for around $5.00. Plenty of room for all my punches and more - and I have LOTS of punches! I posted a pic of it in my gallery ages ago... here's a link:
Hey I saw your message. I bought the shoe hanging thing from WallyWorld, the one that hangs on a hanger like in the closet. It worked perfectly, and for the punches that were too big for the slots, I took the stitching out and made some of them double wide. It works great!!
I use the clear flip bins from Home Depot and those large drawer sets (with various sized clear drawers) from Wal-Mart hardware section - attached are photos.
If they are easy to see and access you may find you will use them more often.
For the drawers: I punched each shape from white cardstock and mounted onto black cardstock then affixed to front of drawer. This idea was in a scrapbooking magazine years ago.
BTW - speaking of punches Emagination Crafts is going out of business - prices are still high but if you ever wanted a certain punch now is the time to punch...i mean pounce...lol www.emaginationcrafts.com

I do the exact same thing. I have a walk-in closet that is my stamping space and this works great.

My punch storage right now is not great - I LOVE tis solution that Teresa (love2Bcreative) uses. It's the rain gutters as mentioned above, she put some of that rubberized shelf liner in the bottom to keep them from sliding & it looks great! It's the best solution I've seen for punches and ribbon. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

I bought some of those sticky backed hooks and put them on the wall about 1 inch apart from eachother. All of my large punches hold on them and some of the med. sized ones but not the small ones like the 1/4 inch square and all that. I was also thinking about getting some of those book ends that are made out of that metal mesh stuff and just hang those from a more permanent hook and then putting the punches on those.
I've been thinking some of the same things as others - punches don't get used because they're hidden - or I'm always digging around for one I can't seem to find. Since I dont have a large punch collection, I was thinking this might work for the smaller punches.
The small punches seem to have a solid metal base - so maybe a strip of magnet hung on the wall? I think I've seen something like this used for hanging up screwdrivers in a garage - but haven't found anything yet. Once I get something, I plan to put up hooks for the larger punches that wouldn't hold on the magnet.
I bought a "Set of 2 Roll-Up Organizational Craft Systems" from QVC. They are item number F0111. They cost $17.54 + s/h. They work perfect! They hang on my door and have different size pouches, and like everybody else says, if you see it , you will use it!! They also roll up for when you travel. I put all kinds of things in mine. Tubes of beads, ribbon, what ever you can imagine and it's all where you can see it.

I saw in "Scrapbooks Etc, May/June 2006" this idea, and I have tried it and it is SoOOO perfect. There is inexpensive metal "rails" - the mag said that they come in 12" but I actually found a roll of it. that has holes in it. (My husband uses it a lot in his Heating/Air Conditioning world, or when he does Plumbing on the side.) It is about an inch wide, and has pre-drilled holes. I then screwed hooks into the wall, and hung the rail with the holes on the hooks. The punches hang on the rail, when you put the thin rail through the punch where you would normally put paper.
Don't know if this makes any sense at all... but I hope you can visualize it. It works great because I can put as long as I want or have space for, I can stack several rows on the wall, it keeps them at arms reach, and there is no digging when I need or want one. I can put my hand-held punches on it too...

Are you talking about the plumbing strapping? The kind used for hold pipes and water heaters?
That would work! Much better than trying to sew somwthing myself! WM wanted a fortune for the heavy vinyl! Rain gutters will workd too, this is really inexpensive!

Haven't seen anyone mention this one yet. I use Pampered Chef's tool turnabout. They hang nicely in the big sections and I have room for other things also.

I love this idea. I may have to try this if I can ever get my room organized.
I like how you used a punched out design to keep track of what is in the drawer.
i need more punches! any suggestions of the MUST haves? i have the tag punch, and the slit punch. ...i'm thinking the window punch next & the 2 circles.??
Ok - my husband is out of town for the week. So, when he's gone I usually find some home improvement project to complete. I was thinking of paining my great room, but was afraid I wouldn't have enough time. So what does this have to do with storing punches?
Well, I saw JulieHRR's post with links to photos of her stamping room - and I just LOVED the peg board. I don't have a stamping room, but I do have a 'craft closet' where I store all my stuff (the carry it to the dining room table to stamp). So, look what I did last night! Less than $35 (although I need more hooks), and 2 hours of labor.
The little punches are hanging in a 'plier holder' hook (far right), and the big punches are hanging on a single peg hook. I'm SO excited! Under the 8" wide shelf, are two rolling carts where I store adhesives, paper scraps, embossing powders, and other misc supplies. AND, Thursday UPS will be delivering my new Cropper Hopper Paper cart from Joann's!
Thanks Julie! I am so pleased with it... I even had to drill through concrete! I can't wait to get the rest of my hooks, and everything hung. It is so nice to be organized!
I LOVE my crop in style punch pals! One of my best storage purchases ever . . . . well, except maybe for the store-in-style cubes. Anyhow, I love that all my large and medium punches are hanging in these and easily visible. I have 2 of them linked together hanging and I really do use my punches more since using these I think. For all my little punches, I found a case that was supposed to be for holding embroidery floss -- it's covered inside and out with small vinyl pouches that velcro closed and each one exactly holds one small punch. I love it! It has a handle so I can hang it or carry it along to wherever I might want to take my little punches.
I think using the wall storage space is so practical, so I'm impressed
with the peg board look of storage that Jamie and JulieHRR used in the pics shown. thanks for sharing and all of the ideas are so practical and unbelievable how many ideas they came up with Carolyn
I keep my med and small ones in a tool type box (like you keep nuts/bolts in?) on my worktable. Then in my worktable I have 4 drawers. The middle 2 hold all my CM punches and punches that size or larger. The top drawer holds my small alpha stamps and my whale of a punches. I have alot of punches (probably 200 now, since I sold off 400+ of them) and use them for various things.
Oh yeah I have 4 of those tool type boxes on the back of my worktable. 2 are completely filled with punches and the other 2 have odds/ends..... like my metal words, my metal letters, threads, filament threads, CM cutting tools --- just small stuff I like to reach for occasionally -- just at my fingertips and off my workspace.
I keep brads, eyelets, buttons etc. in tic tac type boxes in my bottom desk drawer. They are all sorted by color groups, so I simply grab the family I am working with and put it on the desk to work. Afterwards, place that tic/tac box container (holds 24 tic tac boxes) in my bottom desk drawer. Helps me alot.
I got them here when they were having a great sale. I have two of them. One for punches and stamping supplies and the other for alphas (chipboard, stickers, rubons, etc.)
This is really awesome looking Shell - does each level stairstep up so that you can see what's in back???
I just thought about this, Ellen. I wonder if one of those "stepped" spice racks would also be an option for standing up punches in rows, Similar to the Sticker Stadium? The drawback, however, might be that there's no "lip" like the SS has . . . ????

How do you store your punches?
