Default Storage and Organization

How do you organize your eyelets, beads, ribbion, pens pearl ex etc

What do you use for storage?

I use mainly SU Stuff so I'm just curious!

I need a better system!

I would like something that Is easy to carry from place to place. Any Ideas?

At the moment, mine are in their containers in an SU clear stamp box. It works well. I have a cart coming that has 8 drawers, and I plan to use one drawer for eyelets and such. I'm not much help, I'm afraid.

I have the same "problems"!!   I posted a message on the site suggestion forum, about creating an entire forum for just organizing and storage, since many of us are always needing ideas and we are constantly changing our supplies!!!

I keep my buttons, beads, eyelets, and brads in stampin' stack containers that hang on the wall. the stampin' stacks are designed to either permanantly stick on the wall (they come with 2 sided mounting tape for this) or they also have holes in them so you can hang them on a screw, and they can be removed, and put back. I find that my stampin' stack holds the containers firmly enough that if I really needed to take the whole thing with me I could and things wouldn't be falling out. I've even gotten a few mini stampin' store containers to put any other misc. items in to keep them organized. it's great! I can store my brads, eyelets, beads and buttons this way. I actually have 2 full stampin' stacks and need another 1 or 2. but this way I don't have to dig through a drawer to find what I want.
ad for ribbon, I store this on a wooden dowel that runs through 2 holes in what used to be a wodden stamp pad holder. I converted it with a drill, and a couple dowels.
my PE for now is just in a rubbermade container. I haven't come up with a brilliant solution for that yet.
and pens... well I really only have a very few other than my SU! markers, and I keep those in the storage container they came in. as for the others well, my non SU! markers are all together in a small drawer, and other pens etc. are just in an old peanut butter jar that I washed out (still plan on decorating the thing to make it cuter).

I put all my non SU markers and scissors in a carousel utensil holder. I bought it from pampered chef and I can store markers, colored pencils, scissors, gel pens, etc. Then for my buttons, eyelets and other accessories I have a rubbermaid 5 drawer that are real deep. I have seperated these items out into the drawers depending on how much stuff I have.

For my eyelets, buttons, brads, etc. I use this 60 drawer organizer from a local hardware store. Each drawer can be divided into 4 sections. Works great for all my SU! stuff!

It was less than $20 (and the dividers were $2 for 10 or 20 dividers). I have yet to make labels ... but I do have little post-it notes all over the front of each drawer telling me what's inside until I get the labels made!

My dh is going to hang in on the wall for me so I can get it up off my stamping table.

I received a gift card from The Container Store so I purchased a see & store container that has little containers that all have a magnetic backing and "stick" to wall-mount steel board. Each individual holder comes off, so if you only needed your heart eyelets you could take that with you. I'll attach a picture from the Container Store because the link isn't working correctly.

For ribbon & ink I got these off of Ebay (I know some other SCS members have also). They aren't exactly portable, but I love them:

Eyelets-I store in the stack n stores.
Circle Metal Edge Tags- in the stack n store.
All Stack-N-Stores are in one drawer of my IRIS cart on my table.
Ribbon and Wheels- in boxes with drawers. In the top box is non SU ribbon that is frequently used. The bottom holds my SU! ribbon and wheels. I rolled parts of the wheels on white labels then attached to the drawers. I can put 2 in each drawer. There is 1 drawer for jumbo ink cart., 2 for reg. ink cart., 1 for special ink cart.. I have attached 2 3M hooks on the side of one for my regular wheel handles. My jumbo wheels are in the bottom of an IRIS cart that sits on my table.

I also use a tackle box for my eyelets. It's brown tinted plastic and it has 2 layers and I love it! I can hold my hammer and all and I think I paid 5.99 for it. My hubby made me an ink pad holder that is long...it holds 5 pads down and 10 across. He made me a ribbin holder as well with 4 dowels. Isn't he great!

Default eyelets

I bought a plastic case from Hobby Lobby that is normally used to keep embroadery thread in. I just take out the little plastic pieces that you wrap you thread around and put my eyelets in it. Even if you drop the box they still stay in their seperate cubes.

I have plastic take out boxes from the local Chinese place. The lids come off completely and snap on securely. I have one for all my hole punches, one for scissors, one for adhesives, etc. They stack well and the lids are clear so i can see what's inside. Not to mention they were free. it isn't a perfect system but it works for now. One set of pearl ex (12 small jars) fits perfectly inside. My glitter, flock, more Perl Ex and embossing powders fit in my old shcool lunch box. Free again and portable.

I have been storing my eyelets and brads in round containers but found that as my collection grew it was hard to manage. Recently while at Walmart I found a clear plastic storage box with 24 clear "tic tac" like containers inside. (It was $4.50.) I transferred my eyelets and brads into the little containers and now I have room for more! It's also nice because I just open the container I can shake out what I need and don't have to fumble in the container with my fat fingers for what I need. I will try to attach a picture.

The Tic Tac containers are GREAT!!! They work for eyelets, brads, beads, small buttons, google eyes, basically anything that will fit in the opening. I have 1 box for eyelets, 1 box for brads, and 1 box for odds and ends. For the price - it can't be beat.

Default Tic Tac Boxes at Wal-Mart

Karen and Kim: what a neat idea. My brads are in tiny zip lock bags I fumble through when I need them. Which department had the boxes at Wal-Mart? I found some great card stock in the office supply section. Neutral colors, light beige to light blue, smooth. I think it was less than $6 for the pack. I didn't find anything near as good in the crafts section. Whodathunk? Kathy

I found my Tic Tac containers in the same isle as the beads and jewerly making stuff at Wal-mart. They were on the bottom shelf just stacked on top of each other - not hanging. I had to try several stores a couple of times because once word spread about this use for them all of our Wal-marts had a hard time keeping them in stock!!

My Walmart had them in the same area, near the beads and jewelry stuff. I wish I had bought more than one!

Um, so you guys all ORGANIZE your stuff? I have a different method...it just kinda stays on the table until I root through the stacks of stuff and come across it again. It can be fun actually, especially when I find things I forgot I had.
I know, I need some serious 'clean sweep' therapy. The ideas you ladies have shared are great though. Keep 'em coming. I just might get motivated to clean up my mess. My DH would be SOOOO happy.

I can't believe I threw out all my son's empty tictac containers! He's a fiend for the minty stuff. On the other hand, I love the feel of the SU! containers. I'd like to come across cute little clear containers that would fit into the large divided boxes (e.g. for alphabets).

BTW, those craft organizers that snap together (I learned about them here on SCS too late to get the ribbon organizers, but I was able to pick up a few as they were cleared out from Target) are just the right size to hold every spool of SU grosgrain in one (the spools are just a smootch too tall, but I'm not complaining); I have the 3/8 organdy in another, and the cord in the third.

I am kinda wondering how high it's safe to stack stamp set boxes without overstressing the ones on the bottom. How high do you go?

STORAGE...have you seen my stamp room? I can't even find a spot to stamp in, let alone store the stuff!

Don't worry, it hasn't stopped me....I've taken over the guest room.

I don't stack my stamp boxes... I set them on their sides, kinda like books, witht he labels on the short side of the box and facing out. This works best for me! As for the rest of my supplies-- I'm still working on them! LOL!
