MAY06VSNC: 9:00 ET "Bubble, Bubble, Paper Trouble!"
Senor: krabearkub

Hello fellow stampers,

I hope you enjoy participating in this challenge as much as I enjoyed writing it out! You get to use the Bubble Background Technique to create a striking piece of paper to use on a card, scrapbook page or anything you want to stamp. If you don't have re-inkers you can use food coloring as a substitute.

Instructions:

In a shallow container, (like the plastic containers SU stamps come in) mix a small amount of water and dishwashing liquid. Add several drops of ink to the mixture. Note: the color will be richest from bubbles closest to the surface of the water. If you produce too many bubbles, the ones at the top may transfer little or no color.

Place the end of a drinking straw in the water and blow out until the water is covered with a layer of bubbles. Note: for more bubbles, add more dishwashing liquid.

Press a piece of cardstock into the bubbles. The bubbles will pop and tint the cardstock. Note: if the color isn't transferring to the cardstock, or the color is too light, add more food coloring and repeat the technique.

Place wet bubbly cardstock between two paper towels and let it dry for 3-4 minutes. Note: while the paper is drying you can work on the layout of your card, the colors, which stamps to use, etc.

If you have enough time and/or you desire to, you can repeat steps 1-4 with different color(s) of ink.

You have 45 minutes to complete this challenge.

Don't forget to put MAY06VSNC in your photo's keywords so I can find it for judging purposes.

Here are my samples:

Tip: If you are wearing a white shirt go change or put something over it so it does not get colored too. Especially if you are wearing your white SCS shirt.

Here is my sample

I tried and failed :( I couldn't get the color to stay on the bubbles-it just fell to the bottom. I was using food coloring if that matters. I came back to read the instructions again and I seemed to have done it right----

Maybe more soap??? TIA!

A super fun challenge Kurtis. I didn't think the background would show up too good on my scan but it did.

Just get lots of little bubbles....in order to do that I did not blow in the straw, but I used the straw to mix the water, forming little bubbles then I put the ink on top, then pressed the paper into the mixture, you also need to be careful when your taking the paper out of the bubbles...it can get messy

Do you have liquid hand soap? That's what I used and it worked.

If you arn't getting enough color, try add more ink/food color.

Smaller bubbles worked for me too. I "talked" into the straw. I also used a very small amount of water, so little I had to tip the container to be able to blow my bubbles.

Hey, I did this technique LONG before I became a stamper.... by using acrylic craft paint instead of reinkers. That's another thing that will work. I made some pretty gift bags... Just squeeze a bunch of paint into the soap and water and mix it all up. So for those of you for whom it's not working, maybe consider doing it with some paint????

Default OK here is mine

This was not very easy, but I have a sample to submit. I used fishy friends and tempting turquoise. I am fairly pleased with the results ;) TFL!

Here's mine Kurtis. I had a little trouble the first time but just dumped the water and tried again. I stamped the images when the paper was still wet for a watercolor look. I love the way it came out. Heating those organdy ribbons is so much fun too. Thanks for a great challenge.

Cool Challenge! I found that if I put the soap and bubbles ina cup and made very foamy bubbles, I could swish them onto my paper with the straw - it made for a more textured bg. Very fun!!

Kurtis how do you get the paper dry enough to get adhesive to stick--I dried with paper towels and my heat gun and it was still damp. Dragonflies are on the bubbly paper as well as the sentiment. I still don't get clear bubble marks but it's better than last time I tried. Maybe some more practice would make it better

me either, I have the subtles colors and my cardstock just comes out white and wet. I decided, at least for now, not to waste cardstock or anymore ink on this one.

Ok, I actually had REAL bubble, bubble paper trouble!! I was following instructions but when I'd blow, nothing would really come out, so I kept adding more and more soap. THEN, after I put in more ink, I realized there was a hole in my plastic container and it was leaking all over my area. No wonder there never seemed to be enough water/soap to blow into! SO - long story short - my stamp space smells like lemon Joy liquid but I'm not participating in this challenge tonight!!! It was a cool challenge anyway.

I just threw away all of my scratch paper I was working on - not a big deal - guess that's why I didn't notice the leak until WAY later - but like I said, the upside is that my stampin' space smells lemony-fresh now! ;)

This was fun! My mom always told me NOT to blow bubbles with my straw.

In case it helps others... I started with hardly any water (barely covered the bottom of my tray) and soap and blew BIG bubbles, then added drops of reinker and stirred (carefully) from the top with the straw laying horizontal to the tray down into the bubbles which broke up the big bubbles into little bubbles. This left my bubbles fairly dry, and my cardstock never really touched the water, and then I just dried it with my heat gun which didn't take long since the paper only had bubbles, not water on it.

I hope that helps!
