I was wondering how everyone else stores their stamps. I have noticed on a few of my older sets that the rubber has shifted a bit on the wood block. I store my sets rubber down but was wondering if I should switch them to rubber up. Is there a 'right' way? What do you do?
I'm so glad you asked this! I've been wondering too. I store mine rubber up. I heard somewhere that you aren't supposed to stack the stamps more then 3 boxes high. I don't have the space to do that, but I do rotate my stamps so the same ones aren't always on the bottom.
Mine are stacked no more than 5 high, and whatever gets used goes on top, so I guess they are a little rotated. Any one else? I'm trying to get organized for VSN!!
Rubber down! I am next to a window and I don't want the sun to dry them out. I store my individual stamps in a deep acrylic frame so the weight goes on that not the stamps when I stack. My SU stamps sets are still in their plastic boxes.

I put mine in the box whichever way they happen to be facing when I pick them up off the stamping table, but I put my boxes on the shelf like books, so they aren't rubber side up or down!
Rubber up here. I have them in one of those plastic drawer things so they are stacked 6 high at the most. Some of them get stored on their sides too (ever square inch must be used...)

Rubber down is the standard. Rubber up allows sunlight and dust to collect on the rubber. If you happen to stack stamps, you run the risk of making indentations on your rubber from the weight of the stamp above. This has happened to me, so it's not just an old wive's tale. (OK, well, maybe I AM an old wife, but that's neither here nor there...) If you have rubber on wood, by having all of the stamps in the stack rubber down, that won't happen.
It's not a problem having stamps on their sides, as long as the heat/humidity isn't excessive. A couple of years ago, when I was on a stamping hiatus <shudder>, I had stamps in a big bin out in my garage. It gets hot in the summers, and the heat actually softened the adhesive on the foam mounting. Gravity took it from there and the rubber started to slide down off the block.
Lastly, I worked with a stamp company as a vendor several years ago and asked how stamps should be stored...like, how did they store them in their warehouse? The above is what they told me...
I've always worried about imprinting the SU! logo from the boxes on the rubber of my stamp, so I store rubber up (in my dark basement). Is this ridiculous???
Mine are "filed" in the drawers of a large dresser, and the sets sit upright, so they are neither rubber up nor rubber down... The cases stand on end. I've never had any problems with "slippage" though, so I don't think this is a problem...

I haven't had any problems with "slippage" either, but my area is in the kitchen, so it's "climate controlled"!

For me, rubber up - all in plastic cases. Even single stamps are in cases. The ones in my Iris are in arcylic frames 3 deep in cases too! BG are on their sides in their cases. No sun light no dust!

All of mine, except the BG's are rubber side up, stacked as high as I can get them safely..LOL My BG's aren't in their boxes, but on their side within really easy reach.
in the box they are rubber down because i like to be able to see the stickers on top when i open the box for use. The majority of boxes are stored on their sides, and they're in a climate controlled area in a bin under my desk where no sunlight shines on them to dry or heat them so slippage isn't a problem. It is a very big bin. lol and the bin is overflowing, the desk is L-shape with lots of room underneath for that kind of storage.

I thought the same thing. As long as they are in their cases, how can they imprint each other? I take my random stamps that I buy and try to put them in a case where there is extra room. I may even splurge and buy a few extra cases.
If I had shelves, I would store my stamps on shelves. Alas, I don't have shelves, or even a stamping room. I use my dining room and have my stamps in big plastic tubs, which I hate. Some of them are just in cardboard boxes, which I also hate. I just bought a four drawer cart at Target. I thought I could store them on their sides in the drawers, but they're not quite tall enough. So, they will be stacked in the drawers until I run out of room.
Now, to answer the original question, I also store them rubber down so that I can see the stickers.
I like some others leave the stamps rubber up till I make sure they are dry, then store them rubber down. SU stay in their boxes, others I have in fishing lure boxes one high then I stack the boxes.
