I'm torn: I really like SU! Retro alphabet, and have been debating ordering the uppers, lowers and numbers since it hit the retirement list. However, it's a hefty chunk of money, compaired to the double alphabet sets. Would I want it so bad if it wasn't on the retiring list? Probably not. And what if SU! has a replacement for it in the new catalog that I like better? So, my question to all of you - do you have it? Do you use it? Do you love it? Do I NEED to buy it??? ~Pam
I would check out other stamp companies for that one. It is the exact same one from I don't remember where. You may be able to get it cheaper or you can just wait and see what happens. It is a cute font but I agree that it is just a fad on its way out soon.

You NEED it. I have been eyeing it for a long time and HAD to buy it when I saw it was going away (I am a demo'r and usually don't buy anything off the retiring list). I really needed it so I can feel your pain. You'll feel better if you just go ahead and get it

I went back and forth on this for awhile, even had it on my order till the very end, li8ke shortly before I hit the Submit Order button. I just figured, like someone else mentioned, I am pretty sure they retired it because it is a copyright infringement and so there must be another set out there like it. If I really need it later, I'll find it. I was only going to get the lower case set tho, as someone else posted it is more retro, and I guess that was why it was calling to me. I thought it was more cool. I am waiting for the new catalog, but I think I'll order the Crazy Alphabet soon, that's only one case, no upper and lower. And it has a really fun feel, something that I was looking for with the Retro set... HTH
What I love about the uppers and numbers is that a) they're very "clean" looking and b) they "self-mat". In other words, when I emboss them in white on red paper, for example, then trim them with a tiny strip of red paper showing, they look matted. I like that about Alphadots, too. Anyway, I think they are so wonderful. It's the lower case that's all funky with the stars - I passed on them. A tip, though - if you're embossing with these stamps I think that detail embossing powder makes them come out super clean. Oh, and you can store the mounted uppers and numbers all in one case. I bought it because I love it and it's on the retiring list... however, I haven't used it yet. I'm waiting until I just 'have to' to bust it open... and that way I can sell it if I end up not needing it as much as I thought... or if SU! comes out with something else I like more....
I agree these sets are only retiring because there's another out there - didn't SU say it was for "legal reasons". There'll probably even be another retro alphabet in the new cat.
I'm sure retro is here to stay for a while - just look at the fashion stores etc - I'm hoping for lots more retro stamps in the new cat.
As for this set, I think you need it - well, perhaps just the lower as it's so fab and groovy, man! After all, is there really a difference between want and need when it comes to stamps?

I'm new to SU! and that was one of the first sets I wanted to buy....even though it was retiring. I made my first order last week and I settled on the retro uppers---I wanted them all but I figured I would use the uppers more in my scrapbooking. Its a great set and it was a must have for me. I just can't wait now to get my order.....I want to start using it! *LOL*
Good luck in your decision---my best advise to give you is maybe just get one of the sets so your not dishing out all of your money.....you do need to save some it for all the new sets that are coming out!

I am also a newer demo and retro was one of the first ones I bought! I actually finished puting together the lower on the day it hit the retirement list! What luck eh? But My mon just made me order the upper and #'s last week so we had all of the set b/f it is retired.... If another set comes out that we have to have we'll get that one too!

I guess I'm odd man out. I ordered the lower case. I dig the stars. I don't feel that things "go out of style" They are always instyle in my opinon or at least in my scrapbook BUTTTTTTT I did hesitate. I also noticed it was due to legal reasons that it was retiring, so I wondered if a new set differing just a bit would come out. It's a chance I'm willing to take. I can't wait for brown to deliver them.
oh, your not the odd one out---I've been thinking I've got to put in another order just for me and include the lowers! I love the stars on them and I know I would use them lots too. Dh just received a cheque for some work he did back in April so I can probably steal some of it to make an order.....*LOL*.....think he'd mind? :lol:
So chances are, I will most likely end up buying it this week---you can never have enough alphabet stamps sets, right???? And if something similar comes out, I'll just have to get that too!!!!

I got the uppercase and LOVE it! Sad that it is retiring, but still gonna keep it 'cause it's cute and versatile-use white on a dark cardstock - looks cool! Don't let it get away from you! I would buy the lowercase too, but gotta save money for new stuff too! :lol:

Am I blind? Were is this Retro alphabet?? I don't see it listed on the retired list; I don't see it in the catalogue...where is it hiding?! Someone please enlighten me!
The Retro Alphabet is in the current Stampin' Memories IB&C. It was added to the retiring list after the list was already released. A lot of people complained, and SU! did indeed state it was for legal reason. All I know is I've been yearning for it so long, that I'm off to place an order for it!! Yea! I know I can't demo it - but I love it!! ~Pam
Well, to follow up, I got my Uppers on Thursday, the 15th and the Lowers and Numbers came tonight!! I'm soooooo glad I broke down and got them!!! Love those Retro's!!! ~Pam
