OK - I haven't tried this yet and am dying to do so. However, I have a stupid question, but since I don't know the answer I'm asking the experts.
How do you adhere your papers and such to the tin? Do you use like a decoupage? Or is it normal adhesive? I just don't want to worry about them falling apart later.
I couldn't find a tutorial, so any tips you can give would be GREATLY appreciated!
I have heard several ladies say that they use Mod Podge (Matte Finish). You have to put the paper on with the MP and then you can paint a layer or two on top to protect the paper. If you apply the paper with tape the MP will buckle if you try to paint it on top of the paper and you won't get a good result.
Use a foam brush. Rinse the brush rather often or the MP will dry and harden on it. You can buy the MP at Wal-mart or Michael's or similar.
I used double sided tape by 3M. It works great with the paper to the tin. However, I do not "seal" my project, as I have MANY embellishments on my tins, not just their handles. My Upline used ModgePodge on one of her tins and it did buckle. There is a trick to it. You have to keep smoothing the paper while it is still wet. Also, you need to also make sure that you coat the ENTIRE tin, as the spots you miss will 'show'. Good Luck! :0)
Thanks for starting this thread. I'm going to a workshop next week and one of the projects is a gift tin. We're supposed to bring our own adhesive. I wasn't sure what to take. I think I'll try the double-sided tape (because I have it) and see how it goes.

I am looking to do lunchbox tins at a future stamp camp, but I was wondering where do you buy these at? Most I've seen here on SCS all look similar in style and I wonder where they come from? Any help would be appreciated!!!

I use SU crystal effects to adhere mine. I buy the tins from creativeexpress.com. They aren't on sale right now, kind'a pricey when they are $5.50 but they were on sale last month for $2.50! Boy what a deal. I think Joann.com has them on sale right now for $3.98. You have to type in rectangle tin for both sights.
Tins are available at Michael's (sometimes!) for about $6.99 but I buy mine from www.orientaltrading.com for about half that. Basic Grey also has a kit, but it's like $20 for the tin, dividers, etc.
I used Modge Podge to adhere my papers. And like someone mentioned, you can't mix & match tape with a liquid type adhesive or it will buckle. So, I put the Modge Podge on the paper, place on the tin and smooth out any air bubbles and squeeze out the excess adhesive. I put all the flat paper items on this way, then after it's all dry I put on another coat to seal. After that is all dry, then I add my bulky embellishments, etc. with glue dots or redline tape. Here's a sample of one of mine:
There is a website called Creative Express and Oriental Trading has them in their scrapbooking section. I got one at JoAnn's this week and used a 40% coupon on it ( I think it was regular either 3.99 or 2.99) The online offers were a little cheaper but I wanted to try it first and not pay shipping and end up with extra's if it didn't turn ot.
i have bought some from Oriental Trading also but they are about 1" or so wider than the others. Top handle is also different and it has a smooth white finish instead of the rough white finish.

Sharon, how did you get your tin to look like wood? Even the handle looks like wood! I really love it!! How did you do that?
I painted the parts of my tin that would be exposed with ivory acrylic paint. After it was dry, I just did a direct to paper (tin, in this case) with the ink pad. I used ColorBox Chalk ink in Chestnut Roan. In areas where it came off as too "streaky", I blended it a bit with a cosmetic sponge. The handle was black, so I painted it ivory too and then added the ink in the same manner.
I inked the edges of my papers before adhering them with the Modge Podge.
Sharon, I have one more question...are the letters done on tiles, or is that cardstock? They look thicker than paper. The whole tin really looks incredible! I am amazed at what a great job you did on this!
