Default Clear Envelopes

I love clear envelopes and received one in the mail the other day. I have heard that they require more postage, but the one I receiveed just had a 37 cent stamp on it.

Does anyone know what the deal is with this? Thanks for your help!

Default clear envelopes

I've never paid extra for sending clear envelopes.
As long as they are not oversized, it should be the same price!

I have used them for years and have never had to pay extra postage. Maybe it depends on the post office???

I think it does depend on the post office. As long as you put the stamp on the envelope and not the card I dont see what the big deal is. Sometimes if I take it to a certain post office, they charge extra, so I either drop it in the box or go somewhere else and its fine!

I have been using clear envelopes for a couple years now and have never had to have more postage. I just sent out an accordian card and that needed 60 cents on it but it was thick so that would explain that.... I love the clear envelopes and so does my post office

I'd like to know where everyone gets their clear envies. I ordered some from a girl on another group, and it took me four months to get them, but she sent extras for the trouble. Is there a place that sells them? I was under the impression she orders them and sells them in large sets.

I've seen those, in fact I have the colored ones! But this gal got them in BULK and sold them for like $7 for 100 or something like that, including shipping. It was a GREAT deal, and I wondered if it was like Viking: we sell their product but they're from a distributor that you can find them cheaper.

I get some from Stampin Up but if I run low and know not ordering for a while I get them off of ebay.. yes I know.. the dreaded ebay, but you can get all different sizes there. Stampin Up only has the one size. I also have ordered from a website if I find that addy will add later

k.. think this was the site I ordered from.. you get choice of closure on top or side of the card... http://www..com/clearenv.html I think it was like $14.50 for 100 envelopes with shipping added! Plus they have a lot of other things.. ex.. micro beads, embelishments, mica tiles, microscope slides, etc.

The only reason I can think of for needing extra postage is if it's a square envelope -- those cost extra no matter what they're made of or how much the card weighs.

I have sent out many cards in clear envelopes and the post office suggested to me that if it was bulky (embellishments can cause this) to add an additional 37 cents. Otherwise, I put one stamp on, it gets there just as fast as if it were in a regular envelope and it also gives the postal workers an opportunity to look at our work.

Gina - that is the EXACT site I was looking at! I wondered if they were nice or not. I'm so happy you posted, I've had it saved for some time, and will use them when I need to reorder. Although I many "need" to order some free samples! LOL

I had a customer purchase them for Christmas cards, her husband dropped some off at one post office and she dropped some at another, and one of the PO's sent them all back to her. She also had some friends receive them but with something like 12 cents postage due.

Check with your po, but I've heard that because they are slippery they have to hand-feed them through the machine and can cost extra (12 cents is what they told me).

hth!

Default shipping cost...

Here is my only issue with this site...the shipping

Between $25 and $40 handling fee is $3.00
Between $10 and $25 handling fee is $5.00
Less than $10 handling fee is $7.00

If you want to pay $4 per qty of 100 to save on shipping, I would need to buy 700 of them which really is only $28 bucks then with shipping it is $31.00 total...I guess its just worth paying the $5 shipping right.. Unless anyone wants to go partners?

Enforcement does seem to vary by post office. My mail clerk pointed me to the postal regulations. Reg DMM C050.2.2 states that any letter-sized mail piece enclosed in plastic is considered non-machinable and thus is subject to a 12c charge.

Just to see if she was blowing smoke, I did go to usps.com and do a search on the regulation number. It was right! It also said there should be charges based on uneven thickness and other factors.

Even if you've had good experiences using the 37 cent stamps in the past.... you may want to slap 12 more cents on the envelope if it's something important or time-sensitive, just so it doesn't get held up.

HTH,
Kim R.

Gina,
Thanks for the site! I just ordered some samples. You're right about having to order 700 to be the most cost effective but 700 envelopes is a LOT!!!!

Funny thing about the USPS... For letters of odd size, weight over an ounce, or thickness over 1/4 inch they charge 12 cents. But do they make 12 cent stamps??? Noooooo!!!!!

hugs & cardstock,

Gina, are you getting colors and mulberry ones to try out? I'd be happy to go half with you, I'm going to send you a PM, too, just in case you don't see the thread. $14 for half, even if we got a variety, would be GREAT!

hi looks like everyone pretty much covered the issue of the extra postage , but wanted to let you and everyone else know that i get my clear envies from THE PAPER ZONE store here in town. i pay $8 per hundred and no shipping costs. I think this store is nationwide, check to see if there is one in or near your city.
hope this helps. I love these, and wish i would have discovered them sooner!

Default clearbags.com

Clearbags.com is from up in our area. They have great stuff. One of our demo's ordered from them these cute little clear boxes that fit perfectly two hershey nuggets, some shred and some SU paper clips as a gift at her parties.

You take a 3x5 plain white card or a piece of paper and address that, slip it in the envelope on the backside, seal it then put your stamp on it.

There's a store here in SA that has clear envelopes in all sizes. So if you are ever in the area, check them out:

www.thewholepackagestore.com has a TERRIFIC selection of gable boxes, handled bags, etc, at VERY good prices. I get the clear A2 envelopes (regular card size) 100 for $4.99. He also has some that fit 6x6 cards, too.

LOVE LOVE LOVE that place . . . on my way there now!

I use a computer sticker/label and just put that on the outside of the envelope (back of card) and write on it.
