Silent Eyelet Setter?!

So my DH works midnights this month, which means no hammering eyelets during the day. Then by the time I can stamp again in the evenings, my kiddies are going to bed, which means no hammering eyelets during their sleep. Do you see where I am going here?

I got a $25 gift card to the local Archivers and went in search of "something" uselful. Let me tell you, it was hard :lol: I found the Silent Setter by Provo Craft! It cost $19.99 plus tax and the girl at the store showed me how to use it before I left.

I put eyelets in all night last night plus today while my DH is sleeping. It is really cool. I really like this. SU needs to sell this!! What a great tool!

My demo showed me once that if you are setting eyelets where a paper punch can reach, SU's eyelets are actually soft enough that you can set them with that. I thought that was pretty neat! Although, you don't always want to put them where the paper punch can reach, but if you do it doesn't make any noise at all!

Yep, I was truly entertained with this silent setter idea! So I'm waiting for mine to come in the mail! I can't wait. My husband always hates when I'm pounding out the eyelets.

This thing has a handle with a rod and at the end is a place to put the different setters. Small, medium and large. The setters stay in with a magnet. It is very ingenious! I have tried the paper punch thing and really don't like it.

Can I post a picture of this thing? Will I get in trouble? I will post a picture of it, if it is okay!

I just saw a picture in my Archivers email - so the question is does it go through anything thick? I wanted one of the screw punches that I see occasionially on Carol Duvall but they are close to $50 and I did not want to spend that much -
so the question is can you punch and set with it?
I see Archivers has a day to use the tools at the end of the month - I might have to go and check it out, we went yesterday but the just turned 3 year old can only last so long shopping for something that Mom wants, the toy aisle is another story!!

I got one from my secret santa - Noxon 2 bit snapper - craft hammer - spring line tool -

I am not sure how much it is ( I am guessing around $20) -

On the back cover of paper wishes there was a set called click it for around $40.

I will let you know how the Noxon works!

I have a ReadySet Tool http://www.readysettools.com/. It's pricey but I love it. The Web site has a demo that shows how to use it.

I have one and love it...bought it the day after Christmas. It will go through several layers, you just have to put a little more muscle behind it. There is no hammering required, just a push and twist. Ask the gals at Archivers to let you try it out. They usually have samples of their tools behind the counter that they use during their mania night demonstrations. Mine even let me try it out on different brands of eyelets, as some are firmer and softer than others....

it doesn't sound as nice as yours. Mine only has one kind of setter on it--not interchangeable like yours. I would love to see a picture of it or find out where to check it out!

So I tried a silent setter at Archivers Make and Take last weekend - I was not impressed, I am not sure if it was becasue it was full of paper circles or what but it took a long time to acutually cut a circle to put the eyelet in and she said that it would only work on some of the eyelets they have in the store - not the Making Memory ones that of course I picked up about 500 on sale one day!!!
Anyone had similar luck or did I just have a clogged up setter?
How about those Fiskar ones? They looked pretty interesting.

Indeed, the Silent Setter will not work with MM eyelets....it only works on aluminum eyelets like SU's. I LOVE my silent setter because my DH no longer fusses about me making so much noise!

I have a ReadySet Tool also....but he hates it too! I have lots of MM eyelets...maybe I'll eBay these things to have more money to get all the SU eyelets!

I have Karen Foster's Clickit. I can set so many things with it!! I have even set MM eyelets with it! On the box they say " Multi-purpose Spring-Action Tool". It has 6 hole punching tips, 2mm. 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.5mm, 4mm, 5mm and a two hole lacing tip. I also has an eyelet splitter, an eyelet rounder and a piercing tool. I also comes with the special mat you need to set the eyelets on. You can also buy embossing heads for it. I have the Birthday and Christmas sets I also plan on buying the alphabet set, soon. These come with the special mat needed for embossing. I have even used it to emboss on metal! I purchased this at Roberts Crafts which is owned by Provo Craft. So I would think that you can get it at Creative Express. I know that Pebbles in my Pocket also carries it. But it might not carry it in their on-line store. I paid $30 on sale I know that it retails for about $40. As to it being pricey I also remember what my husband says " You get what you pay for!"

I just checked and they have it in stock at Creative Xpress for $37.49. It said that the PC Silent setter is also in stock!! It is $17.99. The Fiskars silent setters are out of stock. They have pictures but the Clickit is only of the box.

I have the Silent Setter and you can use it with the MM eyelets - you just have to use a little more muscle. I haven't had any problem with them. It sure is nice to set eyelets at midnight and not have three dogs barking like crazy!

The one I saw was green and I think

it was made by Making Memories. Does this sound right? I only got a fleeting glimpse of it as it hadn't made it as far as the shelves. So if it WAS a Making Memories one, surely it should set MM eyelets (I have loads)? Shouldn't it?

Joann's carries them too..saw them today and I beleive they JUST started carrying them so maybe all stores don't have them yet. They are $24.95 but with the 40% off coupon it would make a great deal! I haven't used it yet but a friend was introduced to it at Archivers and she simply loved it!

Amy, I have it, it is a breeze with the provo craft eyelets that come with it, and I tried it with the SU eyelets and it worked. It was a little harder than the Provo craft ones. I have tried it with the MM eyelets and MM snaps and can't budge them so far even when standing up to bear down. But I do really like it over and above hammering and hearing "hey, whatcha building in there?"

I succumbed! I bought the Provo Craft one and I love it! I love the little zippy case, the tiny setting mat and the magnetic action! Granted, I couldn't make it set a MM eyelet, but DH managed, so perhaps that will be an incentive for me to get fit! :lol: I predict many more eyelets in my cards for the future.

it is very easy to use..the only thing is it's easier with aluminum eyelets. with the MM eyelets it requires a little more. you have to stand up and put a little weight on the eyelet to get it to split open.but it is still silent! and the clickit while being another great setter is NOT silent...but then it's not advertised to be silent!

We just got the silent setters in the SB store i work in. i wil have to try it out today!!! We also sell the Noxon- easy to use but NOT quiet or silent...
Click-it, again not quiet, but not advertised to be that way....and i have trouble getting ti to set MM eyelets.
I'll let you know my opinion of the silent setter tonight

I've heard mixed reviews about the Silent Setter but I absolutely love mine! With a 7 month old I hadn't used eyelets in 7 months but now I'm using them again anytime of day or night!
