I am bemused by this. I still have my deckle metal ruler from years ago. That wanted me to spritz with water to get a good edge....
Is deckle still so popular? I don't feel like I see a lot of it in the gallery. I like it for some things and I do have 1 rectangle nesting die set (bc I stink with the ruler but I am too stubborn to give up) I feel like I am most likely to see with Christmas cards/Vintage looks?
It looks like a small edge-I think my dies cut a more dramatic one.
What do you guys think? (I am not thinking about getting one)
Yes, I remember when it came out, and I asked the same thing. Are deckle edges really that popular? I think it's outdated, but I guess some people find it useful. I'm not sure how well it's selling, though.
ETA: I think I still have my deckle-edged scissors, LOL!
I actually got mine a few days ago. I like using a deckle edge, especially on inserts, so was keen on this when I first saw it. It works fine, it's a sort of cross between a deckle edge and a torn edge. I do have a rotary cutter with interchangeable blades that I'd use for it, but it takes quite a bit of pressure to get good clean cuts, and I damaged my shoulder/ got a trapped nerve in my neck last time I did a lot with it, so this was a no brainer.
BTW, I understand it works on Yupo as well - haven't tried that yet. Although the deckle is not as intense as the die versions, the cutting is very easy. I often get straight cut layers placed not perfectly with varying margins, and I'm hoping the deckle will be more forgiving to the eye.
I still have a pair of deckle scissors. They’re the only set of decorative scissors that I kept. I can’t even tell you why. I also have a small collection of eyelets... and brads... and staples - both colored regular staples and ones for the Fastenater. If it was a popular embellishment 10+ years ago, I probably have it or just recently donated it.
I saw the paper cutter. I'm not going to invest in it since I already have a set of deckle edge rulers by Fiskars, and deckle scissors that are 20 yrs old.
I must be under the rock with you, wavejumper, as I never heard of or saw this item, either. I have seen the dies and contemplated buying them, but I still have a deckle-edge ruler so I probably don't need them. I regret giving away the scissors...
Simon Hurley did a pretty in depth review of it this morning. Although it's interesting, it doesn't really fit my style of crafting. Plus, I still have the old SU deckle edge ruler that I rarely take out anymore. (That baby was sharp!) ;)
I had to look, out of curiosity. I still have some deckle scissors from ages ago, and I remember those rulers some of you have mentioned. I will say that the edge produced by this trimmer does actually look much more like a subtle, "authentic" deckle edge, as opposed to the effect of the various scissors, etc. I really like the way it looks, oddly enough (since deckle edges haven't even crossed my mind in a long time)!
If I had unlimited spending ability, space, and was in a shabby chic mood, I'd probably want it. ;-)

Then just butt the cardstock against the lower edge; I do that half the time anyway. Had Simon not drawn your attention to it, I doubt you would ever notice.
When Tim Holtz originally demo'ed the trimmer, I did not like that it was not a true torn edge look as you would get with torn watercolor paper, but I fell for it this month. The convenience - and it is an ideal edge for all the watercolor paper I use now - and the ability to get quick and correct perpendicular cuts. The discounted trimmer price is about the equivalent of a pricey nesting die set; so if you can find the space, go for it.
My stamping friend gifted me with the two sets of Spellbinders deckle rectangle dies several weeks ago and I used one of them this past Sunday. I cut a label for the envelope that I sent to my son for his upcoming birthday.
I like the deckle edge look, and will probably start using those dies more often.
I recently got a nested deckle edged rectangle set by Spellbinders on sale and plan to use it a lot. It's a fairly subtle edge, but gives that little bit of interest. I like to ink my edges, and the deckle gives a vintage look.
I still have my old deckle edged scissors by Creative Memories too...haha! So it looks like I'm all deckled-out and ready to roll.

Yes, that video was for Tim Holtz new deckle trimmer which was released two weeks ago.
I admit it when I first saw that trimmer I laughed so hard. I am easily amused by a lot of releases in our market. I own a lot of them too, lol.
I was on one of my artist forums. They were going crazy about the announcement. I guess a lot of professional artists like a nice deckle frame around their creations. They want to add a deckle edge on their watercolor paper, canvas, etc.... They want to add a deckle edge around their frames- matboard, etc...
Of course it is impossible to do that with those type of substrates using the current tools on the market. I stopped laughing and felt quite stupid after I read why those artists wanted that trimmer more than anything else in the world! I do think it will be a niche market. I hope it does cut those materials. If it does not there are going to be a niche that is really disappointed.
I adore eyelets. I bought a lot of eyelets this year. Eyelets will never go out of style for me. I keep my deco scissors next to me on my desk. I own thirty pairs and use them all the time.

Well, mark your calendars cause kazeka and I have declared the first week of December to be Eyelet Week! We can all make some cards using our collection of eyelets and post them with EyeletWeek as a keyword
