Heart Is It Just Me

Have you noticed, or is it just me, that cards that are not taking part in a challenge hardly if at all get any love. i have seen beautiful cards go by an no one admires them. Most of us are at home now so it is a good time to show some love to everyone not just the ones that do the challenges. So I plan on taking some time out of my day to do just that. We all like to here how good we did an right now it is more important than ever. So ladies let's show some love to our fellow card makers.

It’s not just you. In challenges, participants comment on each other’s cards. And there tend to be comments on dirty dozen cards. I rarely look in the gallery, but when I do I comment, and am struck by some great cards with no comments.

I leave a comment or two on others' cards when I post a card, good karma, I think. Sometimes beautiful cards go unnoticed and that is a shame.

I try so hard to do this regularly, but always sit down and get sidetracked. I almost prefer leaving comments on the cards that don't already have any. Because, otherwise I type out my comment, post it, then look at previous commets. It turns out I'v written almost exactly what the other person said! lol I save this thread in my subscriptions, because I always forget how to find the cards with zero comments.

I'm with you, Pam. I search for the 0-1 comments cards and spend time there.

Just wanted to resurrect this thread. There are several cards in the Gallery that have 75+ views and not one comment! Not even a 'great job' or 'love the colors'.  I don't understand how there can be so many views, yet not one comment. Let's show the Gallery some lovin' today!

underneath all the page of uploads ( no matter how many you view on the page) there is a section way at the bottom that reads
sort photos.
in the first box on the left the default is set at posted date, you can scroll down the offerings and click # of comments.
to the right there are time frame, and your order descending or ascending
if you want the least amount of comments pick ascending.

I think Rita's post was meant for the Grrrr thread losing a small die?

I do try to go after those myself since it was pointed out a couple years ago.

I am not picking a fight or lecturing. I believe in choice so people what makes them happy. Just saying....

It boils down to this: I give what I get.

If you hit and run (including just leaving links) I walk away. I don't care if you are blog driving, product driving, etc. if you tell me what you did. I don't have time to hunt down stuff. I want to use my limited time for more cards to look at.

I don't care if a card is not "stunning". If you give me even just a list of things and techniques-I comment.

Why-because:
a) I might think I know what you did and find out you did something else. Happens often.
b) I might miss something till you tell me.
c) I might not even understand what you write (ie Brentscards) but I respect that you told me.

That info makes me look longer at cards to see it. I learn like crazy that way myself.

I love me backstories like Susieaustralia. Like my adult version of "read me a story". LOL

I just think it is the spirit of SCS to share and grow together and esp for the beginners (and we all are on new techniques). And I believe it is actually asked for in the user rules though not required.

Also: if (bless your productive heart) you give us 5 more cards at one time, I will do a round up comment on my fav. so I have time to look at people who only have one card up. It is not that I don't like the other ones. It is a time issue.

Yeah, it looks like some people just use the site for posting their project or for trying to sell product... I don't waste time commenting on those projects; I doubt they're looking for feedback here. I tend to comment more on projects posted by people I interact with in the different threads here. But I could certainly do a better job of commenting more often (overall).

I haven't peeked in for a long time. I had a bad accident and injured my hands.

I don't go to the gallery any more. I was so bombarded by go to this blog or that blog to see a technique or how the card was made it was time consuming. I know SCS is a marketing forum. I just made the assumption this was a new way the gallery was trying to generate revenue. I do understand, if that is the case. I felt like I had a better experience and could support stampers more with Instagram and their galleries. It was a better fit for me in the way I learn and get inspiration while still supporting the paper crafting industry.

I’ve made a point of searching for things in the gallery without comments since I saw this thread. It makes me sad to think that someone could be wondering if no one likes their stuff, so I try to say something on each one. Scrapbook pages are especially challenging for me to comment on - mostly cause I’m more interested in the people in the pictures then the layouts. Not sure it’s appropriate to comment on the pictures themselves. I ended up sending a PM to one person (akeptlife) cause I really like their cards (Go take a look!) but started to feel like I was repeating myself. Maybe I need to spend a little time with a thesaurus?

Edited to add - I just checked and there are 7 pages of projects with no comments

I'm afraid that I'm one who has neglected the gallery for a long time. Truth is, I didn't even know about the gallery for the first several years I was a SCS member, argh! I've been making comments every so often, when I see a card on a thread, but have no idea if there's a way to sort projects by Most Recent, etc. I tried doing that the other day, to just browse, but couldn't seem to figure it out.

I only recently posted some of my cards in the gallery, and didn't expect to get any comments (mostly posted for a specific person to check out designs that she asked to see). However, what a happy surprise to have gotten several comments on many of my cards! Thank you so much to those who took the time to leave a comment...and, once I figure out how to browse the gallery, I plan to make a few comments every other day or so. Not only have I gotten some wonderful inspiration there, but I know how uplifting and motivating it is to a crafter when someone gives feedback.

In response to posts #13, 15 and 16, I agree. I like and expect to find the basics in an upload.
Site guidelines aren't enforceable, but they do say
Quote:

  • Gallery creations should ideally contain basic instructions and supply lists and we encourage our members to share these details. Gallery creations without details will be ineligible for promotions we run at SCS, and will not be showcased on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Our community loves getting a crafty education about products and techniques, and so we encourage members to share their expertise for the benefit of our community
so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect some information here.
I'm happy enough to go to a blog for more detail, but if the basics aren't here, I'm not likely to in a personal capacity. As a gallery mod, sometimes I have to, to try and find out what set was used because all the gallery upload says is SU stamps - and often that is not even included in the blog post, apart from demos who do usually give a comprehensive list.

Karen, there are several ways of sorting how you view the gallery, but I'm not going to try to explain while on my phone before work ;-). I'll come back this evening....

I have only one qualification for a comment.  If I liked it so much that I clicked on it, I say so.  The rest is a bonus.  Sometimes people are very excited about what they've made, and they just want to share their excitement.  Maybe they need a little acknowledgment.  The world can be a cold and lonely place.  They might not have time to list all the details and give an explanation of what they did. Simple kindness goes a long way, and saying something nice only takes a few seconds.

    Hi Sabrina,
Thanks for the offer to explain the sorting/viewing system in the gallery. However, I read Stacy's post and experimented somewhat on the gallery listing...and figured it out. Now to leave some comments and get some crafty inspiration!

Thanks for brining this to my attention.  I just had a blast going through the gallery and getting to be the first to comment on someone's card.

This subject has come up a few time in the past couple of years.

When I look through the gallery I post on the cards that I like, but when I see a card with 30 comments on it, I usually pass on making a comment and comment on cards with no comments on it.

That said I haven't been in the gallery for awhile due to eye problems and being able to look at a computer screen for a long time.

I fell behind for a few years in updating and posting to my gallery.

Back in February I up dated my gallery with 39 cards, very time consuming and I got blurry eyes.  Didn't receive many comments.

In May I finished updating my gallery and posted 30 cards.   Didn't receive many comments.

It would be nice to receive 1 or 2 comments on cards, it's not like back in the day when pretty much every card posted received comments.

I don't think I will continue to update on SCS, just in my personal computer file.

I'm fine with this, been posting my cards since 2005.  I will just look at all the pretty cards and post when I can.

I only go into the gallery every once in a while; I’m here more for the conversation than for the inspiration the gallery provides. I go in spurts though... when I participate in challenges I’m reminded of the good stuff in there and so try to go through and leave comments.

Thinking about lesliespringer comment above, I don’t tend to leave comments on projects when someone has uploaded a lot at a time. I may go through and leave a comment or two, but then move on so I can leave comments for someone else.

Just want to let you know that my major upload was cards from Christmas 2018 through cards February 2020.

I have eye problems so therefore can't upload frequently.

Sorry you pass up cards that are up loaded many at a time,  I have seen this done many times in the past.  You may miss some nice cards from a poster that does this, because they don't have time to upload each card individually they make daily.
