Heart Looking for Mac users who do cards

Hi there,
I often combine computer text with stamped images on my cards-saves on buying thousand of word stamps. I have been using Print Shop card maker and the upgrade to Catalina makes that impossible. Anyone doing this? What are you using instead? Im willing to buy new software, as it probably cheaper than putting a new hard drive in an old computer.
I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

I use my Silhouette design studio software (which is free) to print and then cut. But if you’re using dies you wouldn’t need the machine to cut. I’m pretty sure that you don’t need a machine to print, but not positive. You can use any fonts that are currently on your computer. If all you are doing is creating sentiments, you don’t really need a subscription to the design store to buy images or fonts.

I use Avery's design program. It's free to use online but I'm not sure if it's compatible with Mac's. You could try that.

Use MS Word. Choose your font/size.

What I do is type out what I want to say. I find the font I like. I print out multiple phrases in different sizes.

I found Print Shop that will work on Catalina; it's a download.

I used this program when I had a windows-based computer and absolutely loved it.

I now own a Mac and have been looking for something similar. I'm so glad you asked the question!

I use a Mac too. Pages work great to do inside greetings. I use columns so that my text centers (either portrait or landscape).

I use Canva because of their fonts. The letters in a word can be different sizes and fonts.

I have a Mac and use Pages, using a file I have named, Card Quotes” with subject headings such as Christmas, Birthdays, masculine, Spring, Get well, sympathy, and on and on. Under those headings I collect sentiments Or verses by the thousands and can find them using the search “Find” to add new sentiments or retrieve saved sentiments to use on my cards.

I also use pages. I use columns. I can create 4 inside panels at once. I even use RGB codes to make the font color match my papers.

I have a Mac but I have always used Word instead of pages (because that's what we used when I was working). I merge digital images and put text on my cards all the time with Word. There are a few limitations, but I not many so I have never invested in any other programs. If you don't have Word already though, I am not sure it would be worth buying it just for this as there may be cheaper options. If already have Word and need any help, you can pm me and I will be happy to share what I know. Good luck.

Ditto w/ using Word. Long time Mac user & also still have a windows machine for other software. But I use Word when I want to add or print text. Easy to use.

I have OpenOffice. It is the Mac version of word and is free. I use different fonts from fontspace.com for decorative fonts.

Do you use the free version or the Pro version?

I use Word. I do prefer Pages but it's not so great if you want to share files with other Word users.

I used to have a program called PrintMaster. It was wonderful!! Then one day they decided to "upgrade" the program. I don't know what actually happened because it was like they had started to design the program all over again by scratch--it ended up being horrible enough that I sent a request for a refund for the program. But it used to be SUCH AN AWESOME CARDMAKING PROGRAM.

I've tried SUp's My Digital Studio. I do not find it to be user friendly at all. In fact, I have never been able to actually print anything out with it at all.

The Mac move to Catalina has interfered with multitudes of software from companies other than Apple itself. I can really dance on a soapbox over it but it doesn't help .... one of those "Inhale .... Exhale ... Release the stress ... repeat" items to work on.

I generally receive a message box when opening any software that is going to become inoperative soon due to incompatibility with Catalina. Snarl, hiss, and step away for a count to 10 at that time.

Absolutely, and it was the final nail in the Apple coffin for me going forward. I’ve had a MAC for several years. It was my first, and will be my last, Apple product for a desktop/ laptop.
I do like my iPad, but that’s a different O/S (although the last update has been bumpy).

I use Swift Publisher. It might be overkill for what you need, but’s it’s not expensive.

Chris, you don’t HAVE to update! I am still on El Capitan and everything is working fine.

Hi, what size cards do you make? I can't figure out how to make a template for 4-½ x 5-½ cards. Can you explain your process?

I don't use Pages, but I think it may be similar to Word. I make 51/2 x 4 1/4 cards. I set the margins at zero all around (top, bottom, sides); create two columns; reduce the margin between the columns to 0. That gives we two columns that are 4 1/4" wide and I can make two panels in each column. By setting the margins to 0, I can tell better where I am in the document so I can see how far down the page to go to start typing the first and then second panels. And then use those as guides for the second column text (third and fourth panel).   I usually center my text so I know it's properly aligned left to right. Hope that makes sense; hope it helps; and hope Pages works that way too. Good luck.
