It seems like a few of the challenges are turning 800 around now, and this week it's the turn of the WTUI challenge. Since we have to stay home and stay safe, I thought that we could do some virtual travelling and visit Asia with our cardmaking today, in recognition of the fact that this marks the date that Henry Kissinger visited the People's Republic of China in 1971. Bonus points for a panda!
No bonus points for me. When I gave my BIL a book on Japanese architecture for his birthday, I scrapped the stash card I had been going to give him and made a screen divider card instead, but I didn't think pandas were very Japanese so I didn't use any.
With a suitably Asian theme, the
Screen Divider Card is one option you could consider.
There is also the
Dahlia Fold and other origami techniques. Origami-type stamps and dies are something I've been seeing around for a while, if you happen to have any of those.
I've never seen this sort of paper, but if you have waffle paper there is a
Shoji Screen Stamping tutorial.
It's a great opportunity to pull out some of that beautiful paper many of us have hoarded, too. Think dragons, cranes, tea ceremonies, beautiful embroidered kimonos - whatever says Asia to you. In my closet downstairs I have two very tattered but still beautiful embroidered silk robes, which I believe came from China three or four generations ago.
When you've created your card with a suitably Asian vibe, upload it with the keyword
WT800, and then come back and share a link here - that makes it easy for people to find your card
.
Here's a link to our
WT800 Let's Visit Asia (Safely) gallery
Due to ongoing site issues, I'll link my card in the next post.
If you're not sure how to add a link, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one for your card in the gallery, and one for this thread
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
Many thanks to Lisa, Cathy, Toni and Carla for their beautiful samples and some pandas
.
