Yep it was a long time ago. Stamping Up even sold an envelope template for these cards. I remember because I bought one. And sold it at the begaining of the year! LOL
I remembered not liking making these cards because I could never find a stamp in my collection to fit the card and then have to make the envelope. Of course back then there was no info that hey this card would fit into a business envelope!
So with this "New" interest in slimline cards and now stamps have evolved to fit theses cards AND now dies are being made for these cards.
What do you think?
Will you be buying into the new slimline card dies.

The dies seem to be everywhere, but I just cut cardstock to the size I needed. I think we always need something else that is new to add excitement to our cardmaking.
In May I actually made a slimline card for a bday card. Go figure! Lol
I have seen a lot of cute scene slimline cards but I don't see myself buying the dies. It's easy enough to just cut the card stock. Just my option

I actually really like making slimline cards (but didn't know anyone referred to them as such) - they're great for using my unmounted SU wheels! I have a set of "half rectangle" dies from CC Designs that would probably work, and I may get all fancy with border punches or dies, but I doubt that I'll be buying dies specifically for these cards...

I really enjoyed making the slimline card in May. I just see myself making backgrounds and simple layouts for these cards. I really don't need any more dies. I will just cut layers to make the cards. I just ordered dies from ginamarie and stamp in up 🙄🙄

I bought the Grinch stamp set and used it for Christmas cards for my hubby, daughter and son. They love the cards!

I wanted the Grinch set last year but it was sold out so, when I saw the sale, I decided now was as good a time as any to get it. The dies I got were all three sizes of rabbits, the deer family and the gnome builder. I have enough nesting sets to keep me busy and happy enough...

Here are the dimensions: 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" inches

I never stopped making them. I've been making this size for years. One of the first things I ever learned, many years ago when I started stamping, was to choose the envelope and then make the card to fit. I have a lot of "slim" envelopes, both business size and stationery size.
I'll tell you what I love to do with this size. I have an old Penny Black alphabet stamp set called Zoophabet. I stamp out a child's name, or HAPPY, or SMILE. Then I color in the images to create a very personalized card that can accommodate larger words and letters. I'm starting to do that with my own custom-made die cuts too, which I'm planning to put in my Etsy shop.
Have fun with this size! Many of us have been for years. And you really don't need any of those special dies to do it.
I just made one yesterday during a live class and everyone loved it, so it is a new size to some people out there! I didn't use special dies, just my tulip punch to create a garden (the only flower garden I will ever have - every real plant dies on me lol).
It was the first time I've ever made this size, too, and oh my goodness it was wonderful! All that space!!! I found a new favorite card size, I think.

There’s no absolute rule. For instance, Kristina Werner now uses 9x4 to better fit into regular business size envelopes A few online stores sell them in lots of colors. I like making envelopes so the measurements will change for me.
Here’s a link to a pdf Kristina provides for measurements for slimline, A2 and A7 (5x7) cards - in this case, 3.5x8.5.
And to answer Leslie’s question, I use regular stamps and dies, though I’ll probably eventually get a die that has three little squares in a line or other geometrics. But not rectangular layers since those are easy to make using a trimmer - and the pdf, above, is a nice quick cheat sheet. Here’s a video using a 6x6 stencil on a slimline card.
well, I went poking around in my gallery and I found I have been making this size at least a couple of times a year since day one (without the catchy name) so, I gave the ones I seen in my gallery that keyword. "slimline" and the answer is yes, I am a sucker for stitched edge dies so, I have bought a few of the trinity stamps ones because, I like the edging on the dies and they will be useful to me. ( the plain stitched, the angled stitched and the leafy frame one) (not their real names) but, you get the idea.
Popping back in to say that you are an evil li'l enabler, Stacy! I looked at the Trinity Stamps dies and I may cave eventually - they have some very beautiful, versatile dies! I'll wait for a sale, though, since they're a bit spendy...
Whimsey Stamps has a bunch of slimline dies too - some fun unusual ones. I just want three windows, no stitching/no scallops/no nuthin’ - will keep looking, you enablers...
I am currently designing svg files that will be for sale in my Etsy shop. One of them is a slimline card with 3 windows. Seriously. I just made it yesterday. I can customize the size and number of windows, as well as other features. Just let me know what you'd be interested in. Send me a PM if you'd like.
Great minds. ;) I don’t have a program to open svg files, and would have to cut out the windows with an Exacto? That’s never perfect where two lines meet - though wait - if they were sized to work with a square dies, that would do the trick, running through three times. May contact you - thanks!

I have been wanting to buy some slimline dies but cannot justify the cost. I have several border punches (and recently purged a few), but it never occurred to me to use them for slimline cards!
Slimline cards are so fun to make...I have added several to my gallery! I have loads of slimline dies from Whimsy Stamps, PinkFresh Studios, Trinity Stamps, Gina Marie and someone else....with more on the Horizon I am sure. Fun cards to make. I guess I will be making a lot cause I purchased 500 envelopes for them. I have been making mine the standard 9 x 4 size.
So, Amber, if you are making a 9x4 card, then you are using a #10 business envelope? Those are 4-1/8 x 9-1/2 inches.
If one makes a card that measures 8-1/2 x 3-1/2, then that fits in a #9 business reply envelope that measures 8-7/8 x 3-7/8 inches.
Then the envelope builder dies from Trinity Stamps cuts the pieces for an envelope that measures 4 x 9-1/4 inches. Different from both standard envelope sizes...and from their card sizes. Hmm.
I've gone to the various websites to see what size cards their layers are for: Trinity Stamps: 8-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch cards. For #9 envelope Pinkfresh Studio: 8-5/8 x 3-5/8 inch cards. For #9 envelope Kat Scrappiness: 8-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch cards. For #10 envelope (so says their site) Whimsey Stamps: 8-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch cards. For "legal" size envelope
Lawn Fawn: 8-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch cards.
Divinity Designs: 9 x 3-3/4 inch cards. For #10 envelope.
I would think that a card 8-1/2 inch wide would be the most cardstock-friendly because after cutting an 8-1/2 x 7 piece, you'd have a 4 x 8-1/2 piece left. Cutting larger cards means little scraps on both sides. JMHO.

I may do Slimline cards, but will design the bases and layers on my Cricut. Cutting out shaped windows is a breeze. I already have so many dies and stamps. Gina K just YouTubed a slimline. The base was 9 x 4”.

Whichever envelope fits a U.S. letter size (8 1/2” x 11”) piece of paper that is folded in thirds is the size envelope people are using. The proper envelopes are for standard letters and business correspondence in the U.S. If your envelopes are a different size but still allow a standard stamp for postage, you can just cut everything to fit that size leaving about 1/4” vertically and horizontally as wiggle room.

Have been making this size card for years and, goodness, I've managed without special dies and stamps all this time, lol! Favourites are three similar images, one above the other, with or without mounts, and a sentiment at the bottom. Or just a single image, usually mounted (or double or triple) near the top and sentiment near the bottom - very classy. I'd always thought of them as Small Long Tall cards to myself, to differentiate from the larger size which fit in the envelopes which take an A4 letter folded in three.
I DID buy a Slim Line Die to make these types of cards! It's just something new to me & a different size that I thought would be nice to work with! ;)<3

Actually - the name came about in social media by stampers when this size was experiencing a renaissance earlier this year, and the companies just filled a need. When I made them ages ago, they didn't have a name.
My favorite slimline product is the stencils! I love that they cover a card front.

And then give them to the influencers to present them like they are new inventions that you can't live without.
I have been making this size card for years and recently made one that was a trifold. I just didn't know they had a name! I have two sizes of envelopes that could be considered slimline, I guess, but often use the one that fits the 8 !/2 x 3 1/2, as it is easy to cut from the cardstock, but sometimes the design works better with the size that fits into the #10 envelope. I've never used any kind of die, or even considered the possibility. I measure and cut with my paper cutter which is far easier than setting up to die cut. People often comment that they enjoy getting my different-sized cards---I make 5 1/2 x 5 1/2, 5 x 7, and 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 cards, too.
I am planning to make my Christmas cards as slimline cards. We always add a family newsletter to them, and it just about overwhelms the small envelopes as we have to fold it in several layers to fit. I think I'll do the 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" size, and there will be plenty of space in the envelope for the newsletter (trifolded), too. Ahh...one less thing to stress about for the holidays. (I WILL start my cards soon, I WILL start my cards soon, I WILL start my cards soon--just as soon as my new slimline dies are delivered!)
