Heart JULY 2020 MISSION - CARDS FOR A CAUSE

2020 Cards For A Cause
JULY MISSION
Stamp from the Heart!

This month we are going to do things a little different...and I hope you will be as excited about it as I am... The last several months life has changed as we know it because of the pandemic. Some have not been able to leave their homes, some have started working from home instead of the office, business have temporarily closed and now are starting to open back up, and the medical community - well gee, they have almost been turned upside down. Every day I drive by a nursing home and I see people standing outside the window trying to "visit" their loved ones and I think about those inside who have gone months without being able to touch or visit with those they love. So for July we are going to feature.....

ORGANIZATION BEING FEATURED:

Your Hometown! Yep, you're own hometown!!! I'm sure there are nursing homes or hospitals or others in your town or your life that have experienced some stress during this time. This month we are going to show those around us - those businesses, nursing homes, hospitals, family members, coworkers, or complete strangers - some encouragement. Dig through your card stash and see what works for your hometown.
Each week I will give you a challenge for the week - it will be to send a card specifically to ______. See the next post for this weeks challenge.

Now if this doesn't sound like something you want to do - then feel free to pick an organization from the list of those who accept cards all the time such as the recent group located in Florida that sends cards to senior citizens.

GUIDELINES:
Please keep in mind, we are representing SCS by sending our cards each month. Recycling is always good, but only use products on your cards that you would like to receive on cards. Also, our card donations are not tax deductible and it is not required. Please do not ask for a receipt. There have been groups that will send thank you's but the " referred by"person keeps us informed and passes on the thank you's. Most of these organizations are volunteers and spend countless hours helping others, let's help make their jobs easier and bless them in helping others.

Above all - have some fun with this and I promise you that by the end of the month you will not only have encouraged some people but YOU will be encouraged as well.

Thumbs up WEEK ONE CHALLENGE

WEEK ONE CHALLENGE: This week here in the USA it is our July 4th holiday. It's a time when we celebrate our freedom. My challenge to you for this week is to send a card to someone associated with the military. It can be someone in your family who is veteran. It can be your local military recruiting office or if you live close to a military base you can send a card there. But send a card and thank them for what they have done to serve our country. And for those of you who are not in the USA, you can do the same thing for your country. You could also send a card to anyone who is in public office such as your local mayor or someone on your city council...thank them for their service to the community. Happy mailing!

Great idea! I really like the idea of spreading the love around this month - so many folks are missing contact and for those who are more deeply affected by the stay at home orders in their area, this is a nice way to let them know they aren't forgotten.

I have a couple of ideas for the week 1 challenge too!

Happy July all!

I'm going with Option 2 - and will be sending cards to Operation Gratitude, as a Military-focused group - and being a Vet myself, and a former OWHer.

That’s funny, because I had picked Operation Gratitude also. But since a couple of you are already working on that, I’ll continue with my cards to Bring Smiles to Seniors and probably do a batch for Cards for Soldiers.

I love this week's challenge! I had already sent a 4th of July card to two senior men that I send cards to frequently, thanking them for their service. This was perfect timing!

Great Idea!! I sent a box of 240 patriotic cards to Jill Blasche. She has been collecting them for a 9/11 event.

Heart Weekly Challenge - Week #2

I can't believe it's been a week already! Where does time go? Ok...here we are to our Week 2 Challenge:

During the pandemic our way of life has changed a bit. Many are using curbside pick up for groceries or even having them delivered....or ordering dinner and having it delivered by GrubHub or Door Dash...or even your favorite pizza delivery. So this week let's recognize those who serve us. When you pick up your groceries - give a card to the person who loads your car...or to the person who delivers your dinner. And if you don't use curbside or delivery for anything this week - then give a card to a waitress or drive thru worker or bank teller. Let's let those who serve us know we appreciate them.

OK - so the Cards for Operation Gratitude have been mailed....
As for Challenge #2 - that's gonna take some thought - as we do for ourselves for the most part, and don't eat out/get delivery.... Maybe my UPS/FEDEX delivery guys?

Default Week 3 Challange - First Responders

I didn't forget about week 3! A day late but it's here. So this week let's focus on those first responders who are there when we have an emergency. This can be a police officer, a fireman (or woman ), someone who works as an ambulance/rescue worker.... Let's let them know that we appreciate their dedication and sacrifice. If you know one personally that is great...but if you don't then you can always send a card to your local firehouse or police station or state trooper office or sheriff office.

Hope you're all having a fantastic week and month!!! Hugs to you all!!!

I made a few cards the other day and instead of putting them in my finished card box, I took them along when we went out to do errands like pick up meds at the drive thru, go to the bank, get ice cream at yet another drive thru. I was handing them out everywhere!

Lots of happy smiles and thank you's.

My first contributions to "The Cause" went to Brighter Birthdays, Operation Gratitude and Smiles for Seniors. I just saw the week 3 challenge and I know who I'll be sending a card to at our local police department. Hope all have a good week.

Perfect challenge this week. My best friend's friend daughter is an EMT. I will surprise her with a special card. I need to ask you ladies a question. Where to you buy you tape runners from? I have use Consumer Crafts for years and just went to order some and discovered they went out of business. I am really surprised as they were an online store only. I really need to get some before I stat working on Christmas cards.

Well that's an interesting challenge....
Hubby goes in to his office a cupla days a week - and there's a cadre of Sheriff's providing security at the Courthouse across the street...
MeThinks some of the County's Finest will be getting We Appreciate/Thank You Cards on Thursday when he has to get into the Courthouse!

(I wasn't sure if everyone would see this in the June thread so I am posting it here in the current month as well.)

Hello crafters! I received a very nice message from Katie, the recipient of our June cards and wanted to pass along her message to everyone:

"Thank you so much for choosing HAWS as your June beneficiary! We were so excited to receive them, and they truly could not have come at a better time. With the restrictions in place on the number of people we can have in the building, these cards will be so helpful for allowing us to keep in contact with our supporters. They are all so special, and we’ve had great fun picking out the perfect card to send to each recipient. Each card is incredibly beautiful, and I can’t even imagine how much time (and love!) must have gone into making each one.

When I was approached by Becca about being added to the list of organizations, I never expected we would receive almost 1,100 cards in a month! This has been an amazing gift and I am so grateful to each person who took the time to support us this past month.

From all the paws, claws, and people at HAWS – THANK YOU!!

Katie Sheldon
Volunteer Coordinator"

Thank you all again for your efforts to participate in supporting this organization!

Default Tape Runners?

I'm not sure about tape runners. I use a tape dispenser that takes rolls of tape so I only by the tape.

Anyone use tape runners?

Heart Week 4 Challenge

Well gee, here we are to another challenge. So I was thinking about kids this week - so many seniors didn't get to have their proms walk across the stage to get their diplomas...kids didn't really get to say goodbye to their teachers...and who knows what is happening with schools starting next month. So this week let's pick a kid - any age - to send a card and show them some love. It can even be your own kid or grandkid or niece/nephew...maybe a neighbor kid. Let's show someone 18 or under that adults care.

Apologies, I missed this question until today!

I do use a tape runner, the Tombo brand one. I used to buy the 3 packs of tape refills from Michael's when they had a 50% off coupon, but they haven't offered one in quite a while and I am now starting to get low on my stock. A friend gave me a website for refills that should come out to under $1.50 per refill, but I haven't checked it out yet. I will take a look next week. Are you using the Tombo runner, or another one? If it's the Tombo, I'll pass along the website once I have verified the pricing info.

Thanks,
Becca

I like this week's challenge! My neice and nephew (twins) were seniors this year and missed all the normal rites of passage for seniors. I have several friends whose children had milestone education year ends this year as well. Lots of easy choices for this one!

Again another great challenge week. Another friend's grandson was suppose to graduate from high school, so off goes a card to him. Maybe I am using the wrong term tape runner, but I don't know what else to call it. I use Darice tape and I really like it. We had an AC Moore's around here until it closed up and some stores were bought by Michael's. Now Michael's also bought Consumer Crafts, but unlike Moore's they do not offer coupons for 50% or even 60% off. Michael's coupons are not very enticing for me to shop there, unless something is on sale.

I just googled Darice tape runner and you can get them on Amazon, so hope that helps you! I use the Tombow tape runner and refills and I buy them from PENWA online. They have really good prices and the more you buy the cheaper they are. Plus, if you spend a certain amount you get an additional discount off your order. I order them in bulk to get the cheaper price and discount and that holds me for a good while.

I use an ATG tape gun. I have a 1/4" and a 1 /2" . I buy my refills online 12 at a time.

I have use Consumer Crafts for years and just went to order some and discovered they went out of business. I am really surprised as they were an online store only. I really need to get some before I stat working on Christmas cards.

I sent out cards to two families of elementary aged kids.

Funny how things worked out - I had my granddaughter here over the weekend last -
and she was the recipient of a card and box of goodies - awarded for maintaining her grades so well through the end of the year, and promotion in the band from "the pit" to "the line"...
On to August!
