Default vinyl cling vs. Ez mount

OK... I've been reading through the unmounting threads here. I am still confused about 1 thing. If I am able to salvage the foam when I unmount the stamp from the wood do I only put it on the vinyl? If I can only get the rubber off (no foam) do I use EZ mount? Thanks.

Use EZ Mount if you just peel off the rubber and no foam. If you get the foam off with the rubber, then just glue it to cling vinyl. I noticed that my SU stamps came off the wood and the foam, so I put it all on EZ Mount, then my michaels stamps came off with the foam and the rubber, so I just glue it to vinyl cling.

Those Michaels $1 are impossible to remove the rubber from the cushion! So sticking or gluing it onto some vinyl is a good way to UM those little guys.

At the moment, I'm using a combination of methods- started out with Aleens TIO (one side of the block, not on the stamps) cause it was a cheap way of trying it out. I'm using vinyl cling sheets on some new SU sets that I hadn't mounted to wood yet cause I wanted to try out that system. And I have some singles that are on EZ mount foam. I think I'm gonna convert my wood mounted SU sets to EZ mount now that I've tried out a few different methods. look for a new post from me on where to purchase the EZ mount.

You'll enjoy the space savings that going UM gives you, no matter which method you use!

I've bought all of my EZ Mount supplies from Simple Treasures Cottage via eBay. Here's a link to their eBay store: http://stores.ebay.com/Simple-Treasures-Collage

They have 5 sheets for $17.40 ($3.49 per sheet) or 10 sheets for $31.50 ($3.15 per sheet). You can get a few sets on one sheet.

I've actually found that the EZ Mount stuff works much better than using regular vinyl cling glued to the remaining foam. It's pretty easy to pull the rubber from the foam.

I think the Ez mount holds a little bit better too, that's one of the reasons why I'm gonna put more of my sets on that. Dont get me wrong, the cling vinyl will work very well, I just prefer the EZ mount stuff. its a matter of personal preference.

Hope its ok to ask another question on your thread...
I usually stamp an index on the cling prior to sticking it on my stamp, (yes, I get lots of Stazon ink on my fingers!) Will I be able to stamp the EZ mount foam?
And who has the best deal on EZ mount?

The first unmounteds I ever owned were vinyl cling and I HATED them!! They slid and rocked and drove me crazy! I was hesitant to try TAC stamps for that reason, but boy was I glad I made that leap! The creative cling is phenomenal!

Viva Las Vegas Stamps/Stampo also sell the EZ Mount, though the last time I placed an order from them they didn't ship it, didn't charge me for it, and didn't provide an explanation why even after I asked.

Faerygirl, what kind of glue do you use to glue to cling vinyl?

I use the Smart Cushion from www.cornishheritagefarms.com. It is the same thing as EZ Mount and is only $3.15 per sheet, plus you get free shipping on orders over $25. I was able to get 6 stamp sets on per sheet.

Good luck!

I forgot to add that I just peel the rubber part off my SU stamps and put them really close next to each other on the "permanent" part of the cling. Then I use and exacto knife to cut around them. Takes me about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes for 6 sets. It worked much better than my Kai scissors because I got those all sticky after a few stamps and then that would get on the top of my rubber.

I found that if I coated my Kai scissors with embossing ink they didn't get sticky at all. I just kept the cover off the ink pad and would just set the sides of the open scissors on the top to coat them. Works like a charm! When I'm done cutting I can just wipe off the blades. You'd think that the ink would get all over the stamps but it doesn't.

Thanks again for all the replies. I ordered 10 sheets of EZ Mount and some KAI scissors today. Hopefully when they come mid-week I can start unmounting! I'll let ya know how it goes.

Still wondering what glue keeps the vinyl cling stuck to foam or rubber. I'm too chicken to start experimenting!

Okay so I use the EZ Mount and love it. For those of you that have trouble getting the mounting cushion off of the rubber, do you heat it? I put those stubborn stamps in the microwave for 10 - 15 seconds and then they peel right off. Remember though that the wood block is hot. So I actually use the tweezers from my eyelet seetting kit. Just my $0.02. :-D

Have fun unmounting.

I don't heat mine. I've found that if you get a corner started between the rubber and the cushion, it comes apart pretty easy.

Actually I only heat them when I can't get a corner and it is not peeling that well.

Wondering the same thing (old thread, I know) but question never answered.
I have tried several glue types, all liquid, none seem to be working to keep the vinyl stuck on the foam. My tape runner will adhere the foam to the rubber but don't want to have the glue obscuring the image.

PS: sorry your question was never answered.

I bought some of the Graffix cling sheets a couple years ago, and put them on a lot of my rubber stamps. I have been so dissappointed with the way they worked. They didn't hold the stamps well when stamping, and got sticky where they touched another adhesive. I just finished unmounting the last of my wooden stamps, and I went back and removed the cling sheets from the other ones, and applied Aleene's TIO&O to all of them. I just applied a very thin coat with a little stiff painting brush. That has worked the best for me.
Most are bare rubber, except for some that the cushioning was too hard to remove. I had one that did not stamp well without the cushion, so I used a piece of adhesive backed fun foam on the stamp, and then applied ATIOO to the other side. Now it stamps fine.
I had a few heavy stamps that took two layers of ATIOO; I just made sure to let it dry for quite a while between layers (overnight).
I don't know what to tell you about what adhesive type to use with vinyl; all I know is the ATG tape I used with some of mine melted and created an awful sticky mess.

Thanks for sharing your experience and what worked and didn't work. It seems the liquid glue I used did just fine on some stamps but not others...not sure why. It's still a work in progress but it is moving along....slowly.

Thanks again!

I'm not sure why the Aleene's or the other adhesives didn't do well with the graffix; maybe they react to each other. I am glad you are figuring out a system that will work for you too!

I am confused by the question....
Normally I just take red rubber and stick it to cling and cut around it and done.

I did get this product here-so you can skip all of that. Just stick this to your block or misti and then the rubber to this....works well. I cut one in half for smaller stamps and I have one large one for backgrounds.

Using Unmounted Stamps

Are you talking about the vinyl picture index? Trying to stick that to the rubber?

I took the stamp with foam off the wood blocks. I took the clear image off the block and put it on the foam. Then I put clear static cling vinyl on top of the image. Some times the glue worked in gluing the vinyl to the image sometimes not.

For the stamps that the foam did not remove from the block or tore, I used ez mount and just stamped the image on the foam, which seems to work just fine. I didn't want to have to do all the stamps though if the foam came off the block intact.

Hope that makes sense and explains it more/better.
Yes, I need the image on the stamp! Probably would be easier if I didn't but I do. Also, it's warmer here now, summer weather, and we did have several storms, more humid, for a few days. Maybe I just figured out why some worked, some didn't.
