Default foam tape

I like to use foam tape on my cards and use quite a bit. Anyone know where the best deals are for that kind of product? half inch or narrower.

I use a lot of foam tape, so I bought a huge roll on Amazon a couple of years ago and it's lasted me all this time. Before that, I kept running out. I keep it hanging on the wall right next to my craft table. I did a search for it on Amazon again but don't see it anymore. Does anyone know if it's sold somewhere else? Not sure of the yds but it's 1/2 inch and it was HUGE!!

I think it's the 3M roll. I have this one too and it's lasted me quite awhile.

I think it's the same size as this one, but wasn't the 3M brand. It was a lot less expensive, which is why I bought it. I know I saw it online somewhere a year or so ago but can't find it now. Driving me crazy, haha! Maybe it wasn't on Amazon, or it would show up in my previous purchases.

I have the 3/4 inch wide.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...KIKX0DER&psc=1

It appears from the scotch website that half-inch tape is only available in 6 foot rolls.

I found that the mondo-large roll (38 yds) has 4x the tape of the 350 inch roll, and costs only about 2x as much money. That's why I spring for the huge roll.

Edited to add this:  the 1/2 inch roll mentioned in post 4 is not on the scotch website...and it is OFF-white.  So check closely before ordering.

Thank you for the link, Diane. I’ve bookmarked it for future reference. My husband bought some foam tape for an electronics-related project he was working on. It’s a big roll like the scotch tape but black. It didn’t work for his project but has been pretty helpful for card making! :lolo: Cheap too but unfortunately they don’t offer it in a lighter color.

Karen -- is this the foam tape you are thinking of: https://www.amazon.com/Bertech-Doubl...s%2C241&sr=8-5

I haven't used this particular tape so cannot speak to its qualities but I have had it sitting on my wishlist for when I need some.

I think that may be the one I bought before but, as there is no identifying marks on my current roll it's hard to tell. I've added it to my list on Amazon though, and it looks just like the one I have. The roll I have is really easy to use. The backing comes off easily and it's just the right stickiness and thickness for cardmaking.

Before I got the really big roll, I was going through the 3M small rolls like crazy. Now I can use it without worrying about running out every time.

I use this foam tape from Dollar Tree for when I want white. https://www.dollartree.com/super-glu...t-rolls/247744

I also have bought from ScrapbookPal.com Copic Sketch Markers, Lawn Fawn and More!. They have both white foam tape & black and like having that option.(13 ft for $3.99) They have very reasonable shipping.. $25 -49.99 is $2.49...over $50 is free.

This is also the one I’ve ordered and use. It’s great. And the price is good so I don’t feel guilty about how much I use on a single card. I tend to go a bit over board with it. It’s way cheaper than dimensionals. Of course, I still love and use tons of dimensionals, too.

I use a lot of foam tape also. lots, lol! When I can find it, I get it at Dollar tree. they have it in both cut and uncut rolls. I like the uncut as it is not quite as thick.

Oddly enough the best price on the Scotch foam tape around my area is at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Amazon is the best deal by far. One thing I would suggest though, is not to leave it exposed or it will dry out.

The Dollar Tree has had 1/2" foam rolls. They are a tiny bit thinner, but they mail better!!! No extra charge for bumpies!

I just bought a huge roll on amazon last month. Keep checking. Sometimes they run out and it disappears for a bit. It’s a great deal. I was going through the small rolls really quickly now that I do a lot of interactive cards.

I have packs of dimensionals but always reach for my rolls of foam tape instead. I like being able to cut the size that I need, instead of having to peel backing off of a bunch of small dimensionals if I want to cover a large area. I often let my granddaughter's use the dimensionals when they visit, so they don't have to cut pieces out of the roll.

I'm with you on the thinner foam tape. I've gotten rolls of foam tape that were thicker than I liked, but the big roll that I've been using is 1/16" thin, which works well for mailing. I mail almost all of my cards, so I avoid bulky embellishments or designs.

I've actually never been in a Dollar Store, but my sister and daughter are always finding odds and ends there. Most of my shopping for basic craft supplies happens online, or at Michaels or JoAnn crafts. Never end thought about checking out the Dollar store!

We stumbled across this company's booth in 2018, at the Great Lakes Mega Meet. They have really great prices on all kinds of foam tape, tear tape, redline tape, pop dots, etc. The pop dots are a BIT thick (to me) for cards, but otherwise...I love their stuff, and especially the price for the amount you get.

I used to use the Scotch foam tape, but found this one by XFasten that is cheaper, though (I believe) still the same length as the Scotch big mama roll. The thing that mostly attracted me to it (besides the price) is the fact that it is acid-free. I know that's something that a lot of card makers probably don't care about, but I also do scrapbooking, so it's nice to have just one roll for both that & cards. The only downsides are that 1. you can't tear it like you can the Scotch, and 2. the liner is a bugaboo to get off. I have never torn my foam tape anyway, so that doesn't bother me. The liner? I'm willing to work with it. I've found that it has a lot of static cling, so I generally use my EK Success cross-lock tweezers to take it off the tape, then just "stick" the liner inside of a bag I keep above my desk for trash. As I said, a bit of a hassle, but I don't mind overly much.

When they have it, Dollar Tree has excellent foam tape for only $1 a roll. Sometimes, they have a roll that is precut in segments which is very handy and sometimes they have a roll. Look for it in the home repair section.

I was trying to save money and bought Arteza big roll from Amazon. I hate it. The backing is difficult to get off, it is gooey sticky, getting all over my scissors, and generally difficult to work with. I'm going back to the 3m/scotch brand. However, I have heard that the big rolls are not acid free but the smaller ones are. Does anyone know if this is true?

I use the Scotch brand mounting tape. I usually get it at Joann's with a coupon. The huge, cheaper roll looks like a great deal, but how do you store such a monster?

I bought a big roll once of an unknown brand and had an awful time getting the baking off. I ended up throwing it away, so it wasn't such a bargain.

Try a site named Tape Jungle. They have a lot and it is a good price. I use it all the time. Does need to be protected to not dry out. I know some cut it in half and keep it in a gallon zip lock bag.

I'm not sure about the smaller rolls, but I know the big roll says nothing about being acid-free. Since it's not manufactured for crafters specifically & they don't explicitly state it's acid-free, I would just assume it's not. HTH!

I had the same question a bit back & Lydia gave me a place to buy cheaper Foam Tape! ;) She recommended
Uline Foam Tape found here:
ULINE - Shipping Boxes, Shipping Supplies, Packaging Materials, Packing Supplies
I think you'll be QUITE PLEASED with the cost!!! I WAS!!!

One little point, the only thing that irritates me is getting the paper off, so I use my SB- Tool-n-One to help peal off the paper.

Here is another brand that has a decent price, or comparable to what the Scotch Mounting Tape USED TO cost--- Studio Katia. They have white AND BLACK! ;) Haven't tried it yet, as I'm still working on using up the Uline! LOL

At the risk of being controversial, I hate foam tape - one of my three pet hates in cardmaking, along with 3D decoupage and cutesy! If I want something to stand out in relief, I take a piece of scrap card of the appropriate thickness and cut a backing just smaller than the item. Yes, I know it's fiddly, but in this age of looking closely at what we use in order to save the planet, I would guess that foam tape scores highly as being non-degrading when thrown away.

I can see that you might be new to card making??? I was the same way when I started card making too, not liking "cutsey!" But, tastes change over time! AND HOPEFULLY, our cards aren't thrown out either! LOL ;)

I've been making paper-crafted cards for 20 years and embroidered ones for years before that, so not exactly new to it, LOL! And I suspect cards are thrown out - or preferably recycled: I know a lot of mine will be, as I make all my cards and most will go to those who - shall we say - don't understand what's gone into making them.

Thanks for the review. I hadn't seen that brand, but I always use non-stick Cutterbee scissors to cut my foam tape. Otherwise I have the same problem. The worst foam tape I've used was Duck brand. It even stuck to my Cutterbee scissors and wouldn't cut cleanly. Instead, it kind of pulled like a toasted marshmallow (or taffy), and made a gooey mess.

I store the big roll on a nail hanging from the wall right next to my craft desk. Since it has a hole in the middle, it works perfectly If I wanted to get fancier, I would replace the nail with a hook, but I'm lazy! When I want to use the foam tape for a project, I pull it off the wall and cut a length of about 6-7 inches. I snip what I need and stick the rest of it to the flat side of the roll, facing out. Don't know if that makes sense or not? If there are several projects that use a lot of foam tape, I cut multiple strips and keep them all stuck to the roll, while it's still on the wall. That way I can pull off what I need. The tape is sticky enough to stay stuck to the flat side of the roll, but comes off easily.

Seeing that huge roll on my craft room wall makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

I hope I didn't offend you with what I said. I just noticed you have fewer posts than many & no gallery & so I assumed you are new to the craft. Would LOVE to see you show us your creations! Anyway, I HATE to think of my cards being thrown out! LOL I try not to go there! ;)<3

Yes, I know it's fiddly, but in this age of looking closely at what we use in order to save the planet, I would guess that foam tape scores highly as being non-degrading when thrown away.

You do have a point about the foam tape not being bio-degradable. I have some really old cards with foam tape on them, and the foam does crumble into dust at some point. However, I would bet it crumbles into dust that will be around for the next century. Good reminder about the ecological impact of our supplies. That's one reason I never buy acetate sheets for stamp storage or shaker cards, but recycle clear plastic packaging instead. I also die cut tags and shapes from old cereal boxes, rather than buy chipboard. I've used cut pieces of cardboard packaging to use in place of foam tape when I want dimension as well. However, that being said, I still do love my foam tape!

I do not like thick foam tape. I love the thickness of Stampin Up Dimensionals. Does any one know how 1/16 inch compares to the Stampin Up Dimensionals? TIA

Thank you for everyone's suggestions for foam tape. I like to use it on bigger panels to give them more stability and so they don't warp. I'll check out all your ideas.
