Default New Die Machine

Was wondering if there's a new die machine coming out in the new catalog? I still have mine from 5 yrs ago.

Yes, there are new die-cutting machines in the new SU! catalog. So cool. A standard size and a mini! They will be available for purchase early in the 2020-21 catalog sales period, but not right away.

We cannot show any pictures until the new catalog goes live on June 3rd.

What would you like to know?

I caught a photo glimpse of the new machine. I think it looks like a cuttlebug. I do not understand having the mini and standard sizes. The standard size will do everything (it accommodates the 6x6 EFs) while the mini would limit the size of dies that you could use. With that being said I have the original version of cuttlebug that still works and since the new machine did not impress me, I will use my cuttlebug as long as it services me. I like the style of Sizzix Big Shot, but I will see what is out there when the day comes.

BTW - I am not a demo and this is just my opinion.

Default Why a mini?

First, I know nothing about the new SU machines, but I just purchased a minI of a different brand (Diamond Press). It cuts up to 2 1/2" wide. I love it! It is so much quicker to cut small dies than running them thru my big shot. I know that I can run multiple dies on a single pass, but sometimes I don't need that. I wouldn't want just the mini size, but it's a valued addition to my tool chest.

There will be 2 die-cutting and embossing machines. One is standard sized and the other is a mini one, designed to be portable to take to retreats and crops. The mini one will not be able to accommodate larger dies and embossing folders, but in the new Stampin' Up! catalog those folders and dies that can fit through the mini machine will be marked. The main benefit of the mini is that it's portable.

Both machines fold up for easier storage.

The necessary plates will come with the machines and the plates are numbered so that it's easier to understand the sandwiches to make. Also, the magnetic plate is now one big magnet, so no more "die-jumping" between the magnets.

also, the machines will not be available immediately. I think that with manufacturing being shutdown for awhile due to Covid the making of the machines is a bit behind and will take a bit of time to get caught up.

It's great that SU is coming out with 2 sizes. Do you know the prices for these new
Die machines?

$120 for the Standard sized machine plus 5 plates (base plate, die plate, 2 cutting plates, and a specialty plate)

$60 for the mini machine plus 5 plates (base plate, 2 cutting plates, embossing plate, and a 3D embossing plate)

They look very sturdy and solid, very well-made. As mentioned above, they will be in the new catalog but not available right away. The anticipated date is early in the new catalog period because of manufacturing and shipping delays.

Because it's okay for multiple different companies to have the same or similar products?

If we said what's the point of everything that is made by multiple companies then monopolies would form and our choices would be fewer, and prices would be higher because of demand. I'm glad there are so many different options for us to choose from, no matter what the product is.
I mean could you imagine only being able being to purchase one brand of clothes, or just one brand of shoe, or one brand of cereal, etc...?

Oh my gosh Cbet that Diamond Press cutting machine is so cute.

I am for one really glad as a frugalista girl that we have so many options for different machines/tools on the market. I can imagine the prices if we only had one choice. It would be so expensive. It would only fit one style of art. We all know there is not one type of artists, lol.

I admit I don't need a die cutting machine but I have been very curious what SU was planning to come out with after they parted ways with Sizzix. I am excited to see the new machines. I have no plans to buy one but I am nosy when it comes to new tools, lol.

DeeAnn, my Cuttlebug is still going strong after 17 years so I don't have plans to buy one, either.

BUT.

My Cuttlebug, as dependable and reliable as it is, isn't wide enough to accomodate a lot of the embossing folders (and some dies) that I want to use. Therefore, I may get the new SU! standard sized machine when it comes out.

I loved, loved, loved my Cuttlebug. I was distraught when it went to heaven. That was one of the best die cutting machines on the market.

I have the Spellbinder's Platinum 6 Jane Davenport version. I adore my cutter. Sorry SU demo's I am really excited about seeing the new die cutter from SU but nope I won't get it. Mermaids win over SU.

I have the Ellison Tag-A-Long for my mini die cutter. I am looking for a replacement. She is kind of getting up in the years to and not cutting as well. How we all fall apart as we age, lol.

Finally saw a picture of the new machines and they are exactly like the folding Big Shot from Sizzix, Bira from Lance and Evolution. So we know they are no longer connect to Sizzix, so from the other 2 companies which one?

I have the Gemini Jr electric machine, but also the small Diamond Press (have had it I think a few years), and recently bought a Craft Buddy. Both run around $28. use both of them. Had the original Cuttlebug but just had a hard time cranking it... the little mini machines are a breeze to use. I belong to the Spellbinders small die of the month, and those dies fit in my Diamond Press. Just a few turns and it's cut. It does go through a lot of the little folders (instead of plates), but turning them around and inside out helps prolong them. LOVE that machine ! They came out with the bigger Diamond Press, the Marquise about a month ago. Sold out half way thru the day but it will be available again on HSN on June 9, but not in the original launch bundle. If I didn't have my other machines, I'd get one.

I just received the new SU catalog and the die cutting machines look fabulous, especially with all the included plates and the fold up feature. They’re very clean and mod looking. My Big Shot is still going strong but I would love to have the new mini machine. I’m still working my way through the catalog but already put a few new items on my wish list, like the new Fancy Phrases Bundle. I love the tag topper punches and this one is less fussy than some of the others. So happy to see realistic animal stamps, too!

I don't know if you'd call them realistic, but the Zany Zebras are at the top of my list!

Those zebras are really cute! I am always on the lookout for realistic animals, especially wildlife, since I donate cards for US National Park fundraisers. Nature’s Beauty is perfect, Walk in the Woods and Field Journal are very appealing to me, and I really like the sentiments and fonts, too.

Are the plates interchangeable between the Sizzix Big Shot (previous SU cut/emboss machine) and the new SU cutting and embossing machines? (full size)?

We learned today that the new (full-size) machine will be available to customers on September 1, while demonstrators will be able to preorder it on August 4.

There still isn't a date for the mini beyond "by year-end".

I didn't closely read the previous posts, but to me the value of the mini will be that it's easier to take on the road for classes.
