I’m putting together some packs of cards to give to older family members and friends so they have cards available to send. So what to include? I put in a birthday card, get well, sympathy and thank you. I have room for a couple more in each box. Do I just add birthday cards?
A "Thinking of You" card will cover a lot of occasions. "Congratulations" is also good. As some people are taking early retirement, graduating, having a baby.
Maybe you could include postage stamps for each card. Also dry emboss the envelope flap to match the card. If you are creating a box to hold the cards you could decorate a pen to match. Plus make a spot on the inside of the box lid to store the postage stamps with a strip of Vellum or Acetate. You could attach the pen to the box lid with a piece of ribbon it could slip into. Then attach the ribbon to the box lid.

I've done the same for older family, and even for my sisters. Seems like the most-used ones (according to their feedback) are Thinking of You cards. They can be used for quick notes, thank you or birthday greetings. Even sympathy or get well, if the design is subtle or classic.
I also usually tuck in some postage stamps to get them started, and that's always appreciated.

You could create the front without a sentiment then include some die cuts with sentiments on them. They could then attach the sentiment inside that suits the occasion or just use it as a note card. You can put strips of sticky tape on the sentiments.
I made a little collection to give to my sister, 75 yrs old. Contained birthday cards for each grandchild, age 21 to 3. "You're my Favorite" cards for 2 brothers. Hello cards for different age sisters. Kid cards for the 3 little ones. She's a gardener so I made some garden-themed thank you cards. The next year she asked for Sympathy and Thinking of you (instead of demanding they "Get Well") since that fit her situation at the time.
Consider the recipients concerning your designs. Mostly women, I expect.
Everyone needs encouragement, so sweet messages are appreciated.
Thinking of you is very versatile. I just put together a gift bag of cards for a coworker and, in addition to those you mentioned earlier, I also included:

I'd say that Thinking of you is always going to be useful, and maybe a couple of blank cards that can be used for any occasion. As you mention older relatives, maybe worth adding in a couple of Retirement cards too.
When I used to do craft boutiques and such, I sold a group of cards I called the 'husband pack' and people seemed to like that a lot. Included happy bday, happy anniversary, happy valentines day, mother's day, I love you, and of course a couple of 'I'm sorry' cards LOL.

Another vote here for including Thinking of You, Happy Hello and some without a sentiment at all. When my Mom was living, I made card sets for her and she especially liked the inside to be blank.

I know that I rarely, if ever, send a Get Well card but I've been having to send a lot of sympathy cards in the past several years. I have elderly aunts who are in nursing homes and I send them notes often. They are not ever going to get better, so my cards are Thinking of You types. When I send packets of cards to them to send out, I include a few birthday but most are more general themes, or I leave the sentiment off.

And where do I send them too?
I may be wrong, but I don't think this was a solicitation for cards...rather a request for suggested themes for card packs that a person could make as gifts. That was my understanding?

Thinking of You is always a safe and ready card for anyone! Or a simple HELLO card is alway fun too. I just sent a Thinking of You card for a group of people in a Group Membership where another member's house burnt down. We sent the Thinking of you with a check to help out. Worked perfect for a spur of the moment need a card quick type of deal.

I go to a senior center "class" for card making. They sell the cards (we recycle parts of used cards that people donate). People ask for a greeting inside - a lot.
How about "Just Because!" AND I never seem to have enough Thank You cards, so maybe more than one is good! Oh, & "Encouragement!"

Am I the only one who rarely uses Thank you cards? I make a lot of them, but then never use them. A lot of stampers say they need Thank You cards all the time though. When I make up a pack of cards to give as gifts, I usually only include one Thank you, a couple of birthday..and the rest are Thinking of You or Just Because etc.
