Today I am hosting the Technique Lover's Challenge and I am using a fun technique from my friend Korin. We are doing watercolor on black cardstock (no special watercolor paper needed )It turns out kind of mixed media-ish but it is so cool and unique! I really L-O-V-E the final look!!
Korin did a process tutorial (see post #4) that really walks you through it but after playing around with it my suggestions are below:
You need to use watercolors not inks (I tried oxides and it really didn't work but my Gansi Tambi worked like a charm
You really need to dry between layers and dry both sides of the card to keep it as flat as possible
No matter what, keep going, the magic happens after you add the white textures
You don't have texture stamps? No worries, use sentiments or bubble wrap, or stencils
After I finished, I spritzed he back of my card and dried the front to flatten the panel and then after I had my card together, I put it between to sheets of paper then ran it through my die cut machine to flatten it really good. (the foam tape Korin suggests help a lot too!) After all that, mine was not crinkled at all.

I believe this is the tutorial Lyn was linking to. It shows one of the cards Korin has shared in the gallery. With the site issues, it's still a bit tricky to get videos either to link or embed correctly.
The only watercolors I own are a CHEAPO kids set I bought years ago for about $2 . .. they worked beautifully and am in love with this technique. Here's mine:
Since everything is cancelled we have more time at home to create. So in between trips to find groceries I will give this a shot. Looks like an awesome technique.
What a cool technique! I had so much fun with this! (so needed right now. I got so into the technique of spattering, that I spattered all sorts of paper. Unfortunately I did not prep my area very well, so some of my inks etc are all spattered! funny! It's a good thing my pets were not too close. hmmmm my dogs are black... I wonder...hmmmm LOLOLOL Posting pics of my cards now.

Thanks for getting me going today with this inspirational challenge!
I needed to find a way to use the simple die cut and make something interesting for my friend, a painting artist.
She will love receiving this in a couple of weeks!

I LOVE this technique! I love that I don't have to have fancy watercolor paper to do this. It makes a gorgeous background. Thanks for sharing this with us!
