Palette icon Challenge Chat 2020

<

Hi! Welcome to Challenge Chat 2020!
I started this thread in 2019 to bring awareness to the wonderful challenges at SCS! I create a lot of cards but most of my favorites were inspired by challenges right here at SCS.

The other thing that inspires me at SCS is getting to know other paper crafters so I love asking questions and finding out more about you!

Occasionally I will miss a day...or 2 of posting due to life being life so feel free to post a link to a challenge any time! Misti usually posts the link to the CAS challenge. Sabrina posts links when the techy gremlins allow her to and Stacy will post a link for the IC quite often. So please feel free to post your favorite challenge link! This is an interactive chat thread!

So here we go into 2020!

(Please note this thread will "float" on the board for a few days as I do not have the superpowers to "unstick" the 2019 chat thread.)

Yay!!

One of my goals this year is to play in the Fan Club Christmas card challenge more. I always forget about it being part of the challenges here.

Even though a few of these challenges have been previously linked I am going to start out 2020 by linking all the challenges of 2020 so far. It soothes my OCD nature to start with January 1st!

SC782 - Trio of Circles (the name I am giving it)

WT773 - Tone on Tone

F4A515 - Specifically Speaking

2020 questions:
1) What is the most interesting moment you had at SCS last year? It could be a comment you received, a person you met, a new tech you tried. 2) Is there something at SCS you want to participate in more this year?

For me, I was asked to be a hostess for the F4A Challenge. I really love every opportunity to get to know other paper crafters and view their art! As hostess I try not to miss a single entry in a challenge. It makes me happy to connect just a little bit with every participant!

I would really like to play in the CAS challenge more in 2020!

Now it's your turn!!!

Cool goal Misti! I feature a card on the first day of the Fan Club Christmas challenge but then I sometimes forget about it. I want to keep it in mind and make more during the month.
And while we are chatting about it, HERE is a LINK!

My most interesting moment was being asked to be a part of the Sketch Challenge Design Team. I was so tickled by it, especially since it's my favorite.

I want to participate more in Dare To Get Dirty this summer (I've travelled the past two summers and had to miss it) and the scrapbook challenges. My girls are in high school and college now and there's so many fun things to make layouts of!

Happy 2020! Great conversation so far. I love your fun questions today Angie. I’m being inspired by everyone’s goals.
My highlight of my SCS year was meeting peeps321, jdmommy, and card crazy in person! And also joining the Teapot Tuesday team and the CAS Challenge team. Every year just gets better and better here on SCS :0)
My goal for this year is to get in and browse and comment on the DD gallery. I didn’t get much time this year for it and I know I missed a ton of beautiful cards. I also know how much work the DD puts into that gallery.

Jen you beat me to it...one of my best SCS moments this year was to meet YOU in person! I'm so glad you had that business meeting in St Paul and that we could spend time together....I had the best time :p The other highlight was being chosen to be part of the Dirty Dozen...it came at kind of a bad time personally but it was just the distraction I needed. I really had fun and I think I did some of my best work if I do say so myself ;)

I was shocked and honored to be chosen as a Featured Stamper. I had no idea that my cards got noticed by many people.

I enjoyed the Dare to get Dirty challenges. I did way more than I thought I would do, and had fun with each of them.

Ooh YAY I found ya all

Hmm, I have to think on the moment / Participation thing.

(Hubs would probably appreciate it if I participated just a tad less  )

but, what I have found over the years is this site is a good for me mental break distraction for me.

Well, I think I need to amend my most interesting moment on SCS! When I answered the question I was thinking of what interesting thing happened online but the MOST interesting and FABULOUS SCS moment for me is definitely meeting Lydia, Ceal, Judy and Jeanne in person! I still can't believe I had the priviledge of hugging each of them and spending time with them.

My most interesting 2019 SCS moment was being Rak'd with Hot Air Balloons. Here's my thread about it:

Splitcoasters are AWESOME! - Splitcoaststampers

Sadly, we didn't make the trip (the couple we were to go with lost their 27 y.o. son.) My hope is to use the images etc. for cards this year. The craft room should finally be set-up soon. We are deciding on furniture and triple-checking it fits my needs ... and the space before placing the order.

The Challenge Chat thread will make it so much easier to stay motivated and inspired!

Have a terrific 2020!

And just in case you don't know I am going to plug a weekly thread that is not a challenge.

Every weekend a thread is posted where we can post a favorite card(s) we have seen at SCS the previous week. Here is a link!

Forums at Splitcoaststampers

This thread can be found as a sub thread in General Stamping Talk.

Everyone who visits SCS is welcome to participate!

On the first day of the year the CAS Favorites BEST of 2019 thread went live and the General Favorites added their BEST of 2019 this past weekend.

I hope to play in more challenges starting right now. I managed to make a card and play in the Teapotter challenge today. What fun!!!

My highlight of the year was meeting Chris (chrissyd723). She was in town visiting her mother-in-law and
we went to lunch several times. Hope to do that again before too much longer when she returns. She is such a wonderful person.

I have become acquainted with so many people all over the world doing challenges. It is a good thing as Martha Stewart would say.

Plus, SCS fills such a void being an empty nester. Hate that!!!! I want my
children closer to me. :( But, all of you brighten my days when I come here. Thank you so much.

Last year and year before I enjoyed being on the IC design team and what fun I had. I got to see every awesome card that was made for that challenge and there were a lot. Plus, the team is great.

You are doing such a good thing here, Angie.

Angie, In answer to your question...
"What is the most interesting moment you had at SCS last year"
Because of SCS...I got to meet Shirley( Wannabcre8tive) at a stamp show last year. Previous to that meeting...because of SCS...
I got to meet Lesley (marleygo) and Sue (IrishgreenSue)
And many others from here because of SplitCoast Stampers.

If I would have answered this question in 2018. I would have said being chosn as a featured stamper. I was just so Thrilled to be chosen.

This past year I only posted 6 cards... SAD...(Why does life have to be so busy) I'm sure there were years when I posted more than 50.
My new years resolution is to post more. I love this community!
Jill
Happy New Year everyone!

I love reading everyone's story of how SCS has brought fun into their lives!!! TFS!

Brenda, it's always a treat to view one of your cards. How fun to be able to meet up with an SCS friend IRL! I can't wait to see all the cards you design in 2020. They always make my favorites list.

Jill, I can't wait to see what you create in 2020. I get to pop over to your blog now and then but yes, life is so busy it's hard to always get to all the sites I wish to. I hope to see more of your creations in 2020!

Yay, Dawn! I just went over and saw your gorgeous white and gold creation! Beautiful!

Here is the link to this week's Sketch. There are fun layers but still a nice spot for a good sized focal point!

In 2019 I posted my first card to the Gallery. I received so many warm and encouraging comments that I am now a regular visitor to SCS. My goal in 2020 is to learn how to use this site better, keep posing cards, participate in a challenge or two, and connect more with this awesome Stamping community.

Great thread, Angie!

I'd like to put a plug in for the SCS Christmas Card Challenges. Each month there is an optional theme or technique (for example, January is "special folds", February is "tone on tone", March is "peace"). It's recommended you set a personal quota of how many Christmas cards you want to get made each month. For me, it's a great way to motivate me to make 10 a month, ready for my fundraiser sale in November. Other people opt for 3 or 4 a month and then have their cards ready for mailing by the end of November.

If you're a Fan Club member, there is also a monthly Christmas Challenge run by Stacy (Twinshappy). Each year she does something different with it. This year it's going to be colour challenges each month - January is "kraft".

I am running out the door but when I come back I want to stop by and visit your gallery! The site seems large at first but after awhile it begins to make sense and it's a treasure trove for the artist of all levels! When I first started I created bookmarks of my favorite places. Challenges are an excellent way to "get to know" others on the site. I can't wait to see what you create in 2020!

Susan, I really need to check out the yearly Christmas Challenge. I participated my first two years after finding SCS but then other things have crowded it out. Even if I just say I will create 2 a month it would put me ahead!

Susan, glad you could pop in!

**************

WT774 SHAKER cards.

Ok, so I am shaker challenged. My first shaker turned out so cute but it took me a long time to make it. I mailed it off and someone took it out of my mom's mailbox because supposedly it was delivered but she never received it. My second shaker card took me forever to make and then slowly but surely all the little beads ended up falling out as the super sticky foam tape loosened here and there. I sure was glad I didn't end up mailing it out!

Are there any tips you have learned while creating a shaker project?

I would love to see your favorite shaker card so post a link!

Actually, it's surprising how well pockets shaker cards, without any foam, work. I've seen people use clear envelopes, for example. But this used two sheets of thin acetate...and stitching holds it together pretty permanently.
DTGD08Julia - not a shaker card

This is one of my favourites: MMTPT549 Window of Imagination. It would have shaken better if I'd been able to find my tulle at the time.

An alternative to foam is to use the special shaped windows which fit into an aperture, several companies produce them. Impression Obsession, I'm thinking, and????

Sabrina, the first card is bright and fun! I added a comment. I don't have a sewing machine but I think stitching would really do the job of keeping the pieces inside a shaker!

Your second card was one that I had favored. I hope I was able to make my list that week. Sometimes I highlight my favorites so that they pop into MY favorites but then when it's time to make a list I am out of time and/or energy. I think that happened a lot this past year. I loved it though! A very cool shaker!

Jeanne's MIX is stamping on an alcohol ink background.
I think it's time for my annual Tim Holtz AI plaid background, if I get time this afternoon. I like the idea of stamping a backgrounder over it.

Jeanne's on double duty today, her F4A challenge is bold colours. Definitely not me!

I tried the alcohol ink plaid once. It was a big fail. I think I still have it in my drawer. Maybe I'll try to use it for my card today. And then try again now that I'm older and wiser. Bold colors?! That's right up my alley!!

Well, yikes! I hosted the IC and forgot to come link it! Our site this week features a wonderful mix of patterns, colors and images on album pages.

The Featured Stamper is so talented you won't have to look far for inspiration!

It's Jean's first gig as a TLC hostess and she has two faux bleach techniques for us to choose from.
