popping?

just used a metal die for the first time ever ( bigshot ) and heard poppng noises as it was going through. Is this normal? i followed the instructions but was using a generic die. i thought something was breaking but everything was ok.

Yes it is normal to hear these noises when using you die cutting machines. Often sounds like something is breaking but as long as you didn't force anything everything should be fine.

As Abbysgrammy says, it's perfectly normal. Often it's the die cutting into the plate, or sometimes the plate is being reflattened,when it's been used a lot.As long as the sandwiches used are never so thick you have to apply force to get them to go through, you're fine. Do remember to flip the top plate regularly, preferably every time you die cut, as that helps reduce warping, which will happen.

In my experience, the loudness and frequency will decrease as you use the plate more... the dies won't be cutting into the fresh plate, they'll be cutting where cuts have already been made.

And then you kinda forget and position a die just so, where it gets the tiniest bit of uncut plate and it cracks loudly and it takes a minute to remember it's just the cutting sound. ;)

I try and put rectangular dies in at an angle. It seems to decrease the popping noise.
