Need Card Ideas for Certain Ages

I am looking for ideas for cards for three girls ages 14, 11, and 8. The youngest is not too hard for me. It’s the older two, especially the teenager, that I don’t really know what to do, as I don’t want to risk making them too childish. I don’t know these girls very well, so I don’t really know their favourite colours or interests. I usually use SU! stamps as my jumping off point in making cards. Can you point me to any ideas, please? Thanks!

11 would be hard for me. The 14 year old old probably like something with bright colored flowers, or if you can find one, stamps with a cell phone. Stamping Bella has some girlyier ones and I love their "odd ball" ones. 11 is so hard. To old for unicorns and to you for foo foo stuff. Maybe something with any kind of animals? Horses were about all my now 30 year old step daughter liked at that age. Again the "odd balls" from stamping Bella would be cute.

I like to personalize a card with the kid's name and/or age.  

Background techniques make for cool backgrounds.

The "Planner Gal" line from Unity might be a good choice. I also agree about the Oddballs at Stampingbella.

I have granddaughters that age. Animals, flowers, hot air balloons and cards that are filled with glittery/shiny things are what they love to make and receive.

I agree with Diane (DCinkit). Personalizing cards with their name or age is usually a hit at any age, and I love creating backgrounds using various techniques to fit the theme of the card.

Does the child play any sports?  Like certain animals?  Take dance classes or play an instrument?  Any of these might work.

I am guessing you cant talk to mom for interests?

Holographic paper. All children love it. Esp the glitter pattern. 

Pop ups/interactives for the two older ones. Shakers. 

Do you have any images of texting kids? That would be the 14 yo likely.  Or maybe build a cell phone front and pop into the screen...That's like a long rectangle with a window and rounded corners...you can put glossy accents on it at the end.

I was a tomboy (still am). I was fine with any card. I might not want to see pink fluffy things back then--- I think nothing too childish for this one either. Go bold-bright red geometric pattern maybe...do you have any of the optical illusion stencils?

11 year old:  Neon...puns...still ok with a birthday cake and confetti along with the puns...they still like word play and silliness....llamas <I know, I know but they are still in style - just bought a cake for one>  

14 - others have suggested cell phones...personalized.  Interactive cards with a gift card work...Surprise pop up inside...wild animals...dogs and cats...

I may be too late to this party, but....If you don't mind digital stamps, Mo's Digital Pencil has a section 4TeenzOnly under the kids heading. Maybe something in that (also in the girls section) might work for the 14 yr old. She also has tons of cute fantasy/classic book images and some young girl images that might work for the 11 yr old. Like all artists, though, her designs have a specific look so you would need to decide if they would work for you. If you're not familiar with Mo, many of her stamps are produced and sold in rubber by Penny Black. So if you like Penny Black you might be familiar with some of them. Here's a link to her website:

You might check out Mo's Digital Stamps. She has a few sports themed stamps with both a young girl and a teen image. She also has some adorable young girl images that look tomboyish to me (as I too was a tomboy). Good luck. Here's the link to her site:

Are these for Birthdays? Or just Hello? Or special messages from you? I think 11 yr old and 14 yr old would appreciate 'older' cards, that is, more sophisticated than you think they would like. They will feel like you don't think they are childish.

I send lots of cards to my grandsons, and at all ages they comment on Texture (embossing folders or thick embossing paste through a stencil) and on 'Clean.' That would be lots of white space. And word dies, too.

One of them is very impressed with heat embossed words, because I taught him how to do it!

Unless you know the girls like 'fancy' I would avoid pink and ribbons, etc.
Just think how much you would like to receive a loving card from Anyone! They will appreciate that you are thinking of them.
