Default NY * Spring Stamping in CNY (#29) - 4/25/20

CNY Stampers Get Together AKA The Gathering
Saturday, April 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m.
First United Church of East Syracuse
823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse

BE SURE TO SUBSCRIBE TO THIS THREAD FOR IMPORTANT EVENT UPDATES.

Please join us at our 29th Central New York Stamping Get Together, otherwise known as The Gathering. It
s a full day of stamping fun!

Cost - $25.00 per person ($27 via PayPal). Registrations must be paid no later than March 25. Mail registration form and payment to me (info is in the registration form). There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else.

There is a lot of info to digest but reading through it should help answer many questions. If clarification is needed, please ask. This thread is our main way to communicate with you and we are here to help! It
s best to subscribe to this thread so that you see the updates. You will find final counts and other important info here on page 1 once the event is closed.

Mandatory Table Project (aka
shoebox) -There will be table projects in the morning AND the afternoon, so bring your idea and all the supplies (in kits) needed for making your project with your table mates in the morning; another group will make your exact same card in the afternoon so please provide basic written instructions since you wont be there with your project. Your project stays stationary; youll do the moving. Your project should be a full card, including layers and embellishment(s), or any other project that involves stamping.

Shortly after our final count is in, you will know the table sizes and how many kits will be needed. You will also need four completed copies of your project. This will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s) and should*NOT*take more than 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Please provide any special adhesive that's needed. So, just to say it another way: Bring 4 completed projects + make up xx packets of materials**in kits** to make your project. Extra parts to fix any"oops" should also be provided.

NOTE: Please do NOT do stamping ahead of time. That takes the fun out of making your project! You can, however, do die cutting or punching or dry embossing that doesn
t require stamping to be done beforehand.

Your project for the morning and afternoon should be all the same. Please use only quality products and make these something you
d be thrilled to get yourself.

There will be xx tables, with a maximum of 10 stampers/table. You'll stamp at two of the tables, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. And, don't forget about those 4 completed cards.

NOTE: Because you will be switching tables, but your projects staying behind, it is CRITICAL that you provide basic directions for your project unless it is VERY obvious. Yes, I am repeating myself. Please include your name and SCS name as well. Thank you!

Swaps - ALL SWAPS ARE OPTIONAL but participation in at least one is encouraged. You
ll know how many to make once final counts are posted, and youll have plenty of notice since the deadline is a month before the event. Most swaps will include a +1 for a door prize and full details will be found in the individual write-ups. Please use a Post It to include your name and contact info.

SWAPS:

--Recipe: these are 6” x 6” format - Final Count -- Post #11
with so few participants in this one, it's been cancelled

--NVR Card Front: any vendor goes -Final Count 11 -- Post #12

--SUO Card Front: only current Stampin’ Up!products are to be used -Final Count 12 -- Post #10

--ATC: ATC size is 2-1/2” x 3-1/2” –Final Count -- Post #13

--2-1/2” Squares: Final Count 10 -- Post #8

--Snarky Full Card - wait for more info - Final Count —Post #9

Food - Please indicate on the registration form the specific food item you will bring to share. The main dish lunch items and breakfast casseroles are always the hardest to fill so please consider one of those if you haven’t before. Please don’t just say ‘food’ or ‘whatever you need’. Ideas: breakfast items, lunch items, including salads, desserts and snacks. We love to try your homemade food specialties! Bottled water and coffee will be provided. BYO soda if you want it.

Make & Take for All - Because of doing shoebox projects in the a.m. and p.m., we will have only one or two large group projects. If you have a great idea for one, please tell me what it is.

Garage Sale - Bring your stamps and stamping supplies to sell or trade. CurrentStampin’ Up! items must be offered for trade only; you can sell retired items. Sorry but w can’t be responsible for missing items so bring things at your own risk.

Goodie Bags - for everyone! Goodie bags will all have the same value but may have some variation in colors, etc. You know they will be great. If you have suggestions, make ‘em now.

Door Prizes - Donations from our group are most welcome and always appreciated. I know most of us have unloved items in our stamping areas; so, i
f you haven't donated before, please consider it. Let me know if youd like to make a door prize donation and what it is. Our participants are always so generous! Please DONT wrap your door prize donations. The +1s from the swaps as well as the extra sets from the shoebox projects will be awarded as door prizes. Well have another 50/50 raffle to support the event for next time as well.

Gift Swap - You don’t have to sign up for this one, but if you would like to participate, bring a wrapped gift related to our stamping passion. Everyone who brings a WRAPPED gift to swap will also leave with one. Value on these should be in the $5-10 range, and hand-crafted projects are always appreciated! If it’s something you’d like to take home, it’s probably perfect! Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. Wrap it up prettily to encourage ‘stealing’. REMEMBER: Hand-crafted or stamping-related, please!!!

Donations for the church “baskets” are welcome and encouraged! Please be sure that donated canned and dry goods haven’t exceeded their expiration dates. Paper goods (toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, food wraps, etc.) and laundry items are all appreciated. Save the personal care items (shampoo, deodorant, etc.) for other collections. Thank you!

Other - Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, including your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just can’t stamp without, like: bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, stamp cleaner and whatever else you can't stamp without! Did I say adhesive????? Adhesive! You are likely to need more than you think.

Nametags - Labels will be available for nametags but feel free to make your own if you'd rather.

Don't forget your camera!

REMEMBER: Complete the registration form and forward with your $25 payment ($27 via PayPal) by March 25. All funds collected will be spent on the event. Your registration is complete when your payment is received. If you have any questions, please ask! Looking forward to seeing you in April.

Swap Etiquette -- These are some good general guidelines that I found on SCS. I hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all make and receive wonderful swaps!

These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe" (but you do need directions).

1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments (please do use a MINIMUM of one embellishment and two layers), or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer. Last of all, quality means to use cardstock that is a nice weight not some flimsy stuff that has the feel of construction paper.

2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. Post Its work great, but a plain piece of paper or your personalized stamp work just as well.

3) There is just one swap requiring all current Stampin' Up! products this time so please be sure to read before committing. All other swaps can use any quality stamps, cardstock, inks, etc. This is not the time to unload your cheap cardstock! Please, nothing flimsy!

4) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!

5) Swap sizes: NVR & SUO card fronts -- a bit smaller than 4.25 x 5.5 suggested. Recipes swaps are 6x6. Other swap size specifics are noted in the write ups.

Please ask any questions you might have and someone will be sure to answer. We have all made a lot of great friends getting together at these gatherings so we hope you’ll join us at this one!

Resummarizing: Layers - at least two! Dig into those embellishments, give your fellow swappers a real treat! Put those punches to work! Have fun, try something different! Show some pride and put your name on the back!!

Swapping will likely be around lunch time.

Food Info -- Please remember when making/purchasing your food item that you do not need enough to feed an army. The main dish lunch items and breakfast casseroles are always the hardest to fill so please consider one of those if you haven’t before.

There is usually a very nice variety coming: donuts - cake - muffins - sticky buns - cookies - brownies - candy - chips & dip - specialty dips - casseroles/main dish items - salads and side dishes - bread & butter - cheese & crackers - fruit - and more.

So, my suggestion is to make/bring a "normal" amount not a super size. I am sure there will still be leftovers but everyone should be able to find something they like. If you don't believe that to be the case, please feel free to pack your own lunch. We do have a refrigerator and stove available and there are plenty of outlets to plug in crockpots. There will NOT be a microwave available unless someone brings it!

DIRECTIONS to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive. Get the specifics from a mapping site if you need them. But, generally speaking, most everyone will be taking Rte. 481 (from 81, 690 or 90) and exiting at Kirkville Road WEST (exit 5W). Franklin Park Drive is way less than a mile from the exit and will be on your right. After the exit, you will pass one light, two gas stations at the corner where the light is, and a school (Bishop Grimes). The church is just a short way up Franklin Park Drive and will also be on your right. Parking and entry is in the BACK.

If you have headed in the wrong direction on Kirkville Road and get to that light, you will see a church on your left and houses on the right. That's Fremont Road; turn around and come back the other way.

REMEMBER: The church, our host, is collecting donations of non-perishable food items for baskets. Items like laundry detergent and toilet paper are also welcome, but personal care items should be donated elsewhere.

Other Important Stuff

When the event closes, this first page is where you will find all the updated info on the swaps, etc. Info will be updated as registrations arrive and the final details should be posted shortly after the deadline.

Shoebox Project -- Some hints and some pleas:
** Your shoebox project (AND all swaps) should be AT LEAST *2* layers and it should include an embellishment, unless the design absolutely won't allow for this.

** Please "kit" your items. What does this mean? Place all pieces of card stock, embellishments, etc. needed to make your project into an envelope or baggie for each person. Why? (1) It protects your supplies from damage, like stray ink splotches. (2) It prevents random grabbing of your supplies, thus ensuring enough for everyone at the table. Save those junk mail envelopes; they're perfect to hold your kits and won't cost you anything.

** Please place out enough packets for the MORNING (plus some extras for "oops"). You will set out your remaining supply for the afternoon. Why? Mainly because it ensures that there are enough supplies for the afternoon stampers. Yes, we have come up short in the past.

** Please do NOT get too crazy with your project. The time allotted per project is only 5 to 10 minutes, not 20! Why? Well, if all projects took 20 minutes to create, we'd be there stamping til midnight. While we are not on a strict schedule, the day does move along and everyone enjoys being able to take a real lunch break and participate in the swaps that usually surround lunchtime without stressing that they haven't finished all the morning table projects. Whew!

** While you don't want your project to be too complicated to be completed within 5 to 10 minutes, you also don't want it to be just sticking layers together. Please don't do stamping ahead of time because that kinda takes away the fun!

** A thought for you speedy stampers...I know that some of you are very quick and find yourselves at loose ends before the rest of your table is finished. May I suggest that you ASK those who've fallen behind if they would appreciate some help in getting some "parts" done to help them finish up?

** Slower stampers...Please don't be offended if someone offers to help you complete some "parts" or ask for some help if you see that others have finished. Remember that you can finish assembly at home if you have all the pieces stamped and otherwise prepped.

Gift Swap -- Wrap it up as nice as you please. "Snitching" encouraged as part of the fun. Your gift can be handmade or purchased, but please be sure that it is stamping related.

Tables -- Tables are assigned randomly when you arrive. If you really, really (really) need to be with your friend (I'm saying this more for the newbies), we will try to accommodate you but the random assignments really do make for a good way to make new friends. Plus, you and your friend(s) will have different projects to share. Well, unless you're randomly assigned to the same table set. Then, you're welcome to ask someone at another table to switch with you. You will be at one table in the morning and a different table (but with the same table mates) in the afternoon.

All the swap spots are now posted, so feel free to post away.

I have just added the registration form as a Word document and a PDF.

LMK if you see any anomalies. SCS has been a bit wonky lately and when I use copy & paste, there are often strange things that carry forward.

Thank you!

Default ATC Swap

ATC Swap: ATC size is 2-1/2” x 3-1/2”

An artist trading card (ATC) is basically a card, just with a smaller scale; can oftentimes be incorporated as part of a card

It is sized small to fit into a baseball card holder

Use some layers & embellishment(s) - just like on a card front

sign the back if you wish (some players even have specially made ATC stamps for this)

FINAL COUNT: 9

1. door prize
2.  Amy F
3. Peg R
4. Janet S
5. Wendy G
6. Beth S
7. Gayla N
8. Catherine B.
9. Sandy B.

Registrations are coming in nice and steady but it wouldn't hurt for the thread to have a bump.

I did some MAJOR organizing at my house recently - specifically my crafting room! Still have some to do, but I should be ready soon to get stamping for the swaps and shoebox project. Looking forward to seeing everyone!!!

Does anyone have the old SU! Ink Pad Storage Carousel that the old Classic Ink pads fit in that they're looking to unload? I can't remember how expensive they were, but the ones I see on eBay seem pretty pricey. I'm trying to find a not-too-expensive way to store mine. Thanks!

Beth Schreiber - Are you looking to dispose of it? I'd be willing to buy it from you.  (Sorry, I couldn't figure out quickly enough how to reply the "right" way to your post.)

Just a quick note:

We are 6 weeks away from the event date so I am inclined to keep it as scheduled for the time being and I hope sign ups will continue to arrive. If things do not begin to turn around soon, we will certainly revisit.

Thoughts?

I agree, let's wait and see how it all plays out... in the meantime, I hope to have more time in my craft room!

I completely agree, Diane. At this moment --and we all know how quickly those moments change-- there are no confirmed cases in Onondaga County.

I will keep the event open at least through our closing date and reevaluate then. Meanwhile, there's lots of time to catch up on personal stamping. Hey, and maybe even MAIL some cards!

Gayla, I sent a swap update this afternoon and your email bounced back. What’s up with that?
