Default 12x12 storage help

Happy Sunday everyone. I have a storage question that I am hoping you can help me with. Right now I have all my 8.5x11 paper in a file cabinet which I love. I want to put my 12x12 paper in something like that. (I want to easily see them, keep them protected from dust and sun) however it seems something like that does not exist? I dont want them laying flat in a container as I tend not to use them. What do you all use for 12x12 paper?

I use this:

With these folders, though Amazon no longer carries them. Doing a search a couple places popped up, plus another brand with the same measurements.

Depending on your file cabinet...they have 12 x 12 file folders you could do the same thing with it. If not, I have seen people do vertical storage on a rolling small cart but I cant find one online right now for you....

I store mine flat in drawers in a rolling thing so I am no help.

Oh there we go-Beth came in with one

I forgot to ask-are you talking about solids or patterns? Patterns I have separate in plastic accordion things by theme. Which I used to get at AC Moore but you wont be able to anymore as they are closing.

Here is a forum, which is listed right below General Stamping Talk, which is full of ideas for storing craft room items.

Totally Tiffany has a video about paper organization, in case you’d be interested. While she is selling her products, in a class she teaches, she also discusses using what one already has, and some of the information has been useful.

Here’s the video, storage for 12x12 (and more) paper, and her take on organizing it. One or two carts hold 12x12 paper storage containers and fit in Expedit and Kallax cubes.

https://www.totally-tiffany.com/?s=Cart&post_type=product

By the way, her free, 8-session Get Organized Challenge started last week and tomorrow’s class is coincidentally about paper, in case you’d like to join. It’s usually live with a chat box, but tomorrow it’s taped, though the chat box will be monitored. I often attend sessions to help keep me accountable with purging and organizing, even though I don’t have that many of her products. Oops, here’s the link to the challenge:

Tiffany attends Stamp & SB Expos, and was so helpful and nice  when I was figuring out a specific type of storage, not batting an eye when the second day of the Expo I brought back what I bought to exchange it (I had counted wrong), despite her booth being packed with people. They have super customer service too, and will help figure out what items work best. They had me send them a photo of some products when I was trying make a decision.

Ugh, sorry this is so long!

You’re welcome. BTW, the video is about products. For classes, while products are shown, it’s really about organizing, how our brains work, occasionally a book recommendation, a challenge/homework for the next week and prizes. I don’t agree with 100% of her theory, but have enjoyed attending. Some people attend year after year. And as Tiffany has pointed out, there’s a difference between organizing versus containerizing. ;)

Tiffany sells inserts for collections, multiples, scraps, etc. Hers are more heavy duty than what i use, and some of hers have smaller pockets within the larger 12x12 pockets, which is nice. But I don’t use that much 12x12 paper, recently gave more away, and these simple page protectors work for me in the file folders and cart I linked to.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BC1F6O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Right now it costs much less (under $10.00) to buy one pack three times instead of a 3-pack once (over $18.00). It’s the same with buying one pack twice versus a 2-pack. It just depends what’s on sale.

Question 12x12 storage

Just an FYI for us older folk, I believe she is daughter or grand-daughter of Aleene from Aleene’s Creative living Tv show and craft maven from years ago

Tiffany of Totally Tiffany says her mom is Tamara Merrill, an author.

And you’re right that Aleene’s daughter is a Tiffany. I hadn’t heard of the show so it was fun to watch part of an episode on youtube. And after that one, one by Carol Duval popped up! Anyway, here’s that Tiffany.

Iris brand makes plastic boxes that will hold hanging file folders for your 12 x 12 papers. Currently they are outrageously priced at near $50 for one box. I found some in a Joann store several years ago for about $12 each. I can't remember if they included any hanging file folders or I bought them separately. Mine have simple snap on lids and built-in handles on the sides.
You might Google various names for plastic files like this and see if they are available now.

I stopped by Hobby Lobby on my way home from work this evening and purchased Totally Tiffany's 5pc organizer boxes using the 40% coupon.
The 5 boxes are more than enough storage to hold the individual sheets, plus the sheets I remove from the paper pads.
Using the 12x12 chipboards that I've been saving up from paper orders and the backs of paper pads I created my own dividers and started sorting. I'm pleased with my progress so far, but I've done all I'm going to do tonight.
I'll pick up where I left off tomorrow.

If you know you’re keeping all or most of your paper, great - decision time. If you’ll be purging waiting until that’s mostly done is another option.

I can’t count the times I’ve purchased storage and eventually donated it because either I didn’t have a good fix on quantity, or I didn’t take the time to imagine myself using the storage I was considering.

For example, my 12x12 was first in Cropper Hopper paper holders that fit in Expedit. But looking through boxes kind of sideways was awkward, and if I pulled them out they’d fall if not held. Eventually i realized I’m a flipper, and want to squarely face what I’m flipping through, whether it be stamps in bins or paper.

The solution (cart) is not perfect - a little taller would be nice - but the height didn’t bother anyone else and it’s easy to roll it out from under my trimmer station (taller than a desk) or roll me in my chair to it.

So now when new storage is needed, factoring in where the box (or whatever) will be, how I’ll reach for it, whether it will be annoying (small boxes inserted into bigger boxes), etc. is key. We’re part of the equation, and one size does not fit all.

Check out the offerings from Stamp-n- Storage.  I LOVE their wood craft organizing products.  An American company from Hutchinson, MN.

I ordered record album outer sleeves on Amazon to use as 12 x 12 storage files in the TT storage boxes. I plan on storing 12 x 12 scraps no smaller than 6 x 6 in them, at least that's the plan.

Vinyl Fever High - Density 3 Mil Outer Record Sleeves for Storage of Standard 12” LP Records and Albums - Crystal Clear Polypropylene LP Covers (25 Pack) $8.99

Just stumbled upon a blog entry by Kat Driggers about 12x12 storage. She has a two part system:

Default 12x12 paper storage

I have been doing this for years for my most used 12x12. I also have one with a black case (it’s called a class tote) that can be lifted out of the cart to take to crops or classes but I haven’t seen it recently.  I like it because it shields from dust and light. All my older paper is in the square iris or creative options scrapbook cases.

Here’s Totally Tiffany’s paper cart and holders that go into it - though I’d guess other holders would fit. It’s a great product - just would not work for me. I used similar holders in an Expedit and the angle/approach isn’t the best fit. I prefer opening a 12x12 hanging file folder and flipping through to see the “face” of the paper, if that makes sense. But I do like the height of the top shelf and that it rolls, and think it would work for many people

Best Craft Organizer also has inserts for Expedit/Kallax.Here’s one at scrapbook.com but they have others on their own website and sometimes have good sales. Again, not my cuppa since I don’t like stacking paper but good for others. Very nice owners who come to Stamp & SB Expos like Tiffany does.
