If you're looking for alcohol markers at a lower price point, there are lots of options - my first set of alcohol markers was a super cheap (like some of the nibs fell off) Japanese brand, but practicing with them gave me the skills I needed to level up confidently to a better brand later on.
Lindsay (The Frugal Crafter) has done a few reviews on alcohol marker sets:
Colored pencils and watercolor are a couple of other options for you. Since I don't draw, yet love to watercolor, I will stamp my images and watercolor them. I love the results I get, and it's so relaxing! You can emboss the image to help contain your paint until you get the hang of it if you're just starting out. Watch out though, it can become addicting!
I realize yours is a rather old post on this subject, but I got the 200 set of Ohuhu alcohol markers and I love them. They are super cheap and also have smaller sets if you just want to try them out before committing to a large set.
