Default Sparkle without color?

Maybe I'm looking for something that doesn't exist. There are times when I want to add just a touch of sparkle to a card I've made. I like Stickles. I find them easy to use, and the price is right, but although I've tried "colors" that sound like they'd be colorless, "Diamond", "Stardust" and "Crystal", they all have color in their little specks of sparkle. Especially green/blue. I'd like something that's just sparkly, like silver/white, with no color at all. Do any of you know if that exists in the Stickles line? Or is there another product that would deliver sparkle without color? I hate sounding so picky, but sometimes you just want a little sparkle, and that's it! :-) TIA

I highly recommend a clear glitter brush pen. My favorite is called Wink of Stella (clear)

Here is a link to show what the product is how to use it and what the end result

Ditto on Wink of Stella - clear, not white or other colors. Shake it frequently. More than you think. The little paint brush is easy to use for details - like letters, a die cut, image. Love it, use it tons. (If you're patient you won't get the big glob-o-glitter that Kristina mentioned in the video.)

For shimmer on an entire card, Sparkle Shimmer Spritz is my go to - sheer, not frost, if you want clear. Suggestion: use it about 12-15 inches above the card - I mentally hear the instructor saying, "Stand up!" And use much less than you think you need. It comes in a tiny skinny bottle, which I like, a refill bottle, and a larger spray bottle. They all work. Wipe the nozzle with a baby wipe or microfiber cloth when done. The skinny one has never clogged and I've had it for years.

I like the spectrum noir clear sparkle brush pens. Lots of sparkle. They have these in colors too but I only use the clear.

I use the pens suggested, I also like Stickles. I think Twinkle would be what you're looking for: https://rangerink.com/collections/st...-twinkle-0-5oz

That 'color' in glitter bothers me too - my favorite that has no color is the Martha Stewart Crystal Fine.

Wow, thank you for all of your responses! You've given me several options that look like they would work for me. I love the price of the Stickles, but when I realize what I've paid for several of them, and ended up with a product that doesn't do what I want it to, I might as well bite the bullet and get something that does. Thanks everyone!

I know what you mean about the color in Stickles and am glad you started this thread.

I also like Nuvo Aqua shimmer pens. Glitter gloss has a silvery look and the midas touch has a gold look. I only have the silver one but am picking up the gold one soon.

I like those also. It goes on nicely and adds just the right bit of shimmer.

I just bought a bottle of the Pixie Dust from Ink on 3 when I was ordering some Atelier inks to try out. I shook the bottle up really, REALLY well and was a bit leery because it looked slightly gold to me. However, I put a teensy drop on paper and smeared it with my finger and there was NO color at all, but what a fabulous sparkle! Yeah, I'm hooked...

I almost mentioned Pixie Dust - which is so intense! It comes in a bottle with an eye dropper, to use as is (with a brush) or for less intensity it can be watered down. So there’s a bit more to using it than when using a brush pen like Wink of Stella or the Nuvo.

While on some colors it appeared colorless, on others it seemed to have a warmer tone. I’ll re-test though, could be my holy memory.

Diamond, Crystal and Stardust appear to be colorless in the photos online (some are "warm" and others "cool", but no actual color that I could see), but I'm thinking that this is a case of having to see it in person. If that's not possible, they aren't all that pricey and it might be worth it to have options...?

Oooh, even more suggestions! Thanks again. I'm not one for much embellishment, but now and then I do like a touch of sparkle. I've used it most on Christmas cards, mainly for a snow effect, so that's why I was looking for sparkle with no color. And gregzgurl, yes they do look colorless online, that's why I thought they'd be perfect. But in person, not so much. In person, those green and blue flecks really show up. I feel fairly certain that somewhere in the Stickles line, there must be one that truly doesn't have color, but after buying three of them with no luck, I'm not willing to keep going until I get to it. Thanks to all of your suggestions...I'm movin' on!

I just looked at the sample chart I had made for my Stickles.....And Frosted Lace looks like something you might like. Also Clear Rock Candy Distress Stickles.

Frosted Lace is the most neutral of the Stickles in my opinion, but I don't think it is as sparkly as the ones like Stardust and Diamond etc.

I was going to mention that one, too, but I have it and I agree - it is more of a shimmer than a sparkle...

Hmmm...all of this has got me wondering about trying to make something like this on my own. I have some very fine silver glitter. I wonder how it would work in some glue that dries clear. Will have to try this and get back to you all.

If you want to make perfectly white/sparkly three dimensional snow I highly recommend Tonic Fresh Snowfall! You can get really fantastic effects with it. Unfortunately sometimes it will pick up ink/color from the substrate, so you have to test it beforehand...

You can mix it with clear floor wax, like Pledge/Future and but it in a water brush.

Heart Wink of Stella

I had the same experience with Wink of Stella...took it back to the retail store where I bought it with the receipt. They gave me a refund with no problem, but I would have liked instruction on why I couldn't make it work.

That is a reason why I teach card making at Senior Centers for the last few years....you can buy all the products on the shelves, but without instructions, viewing videos, or belonging to this wonderful group of talented Splitcoaststampers, you may not be able to produce the artwork you want.

Following directions is important; or having a real person to show you!!!

Here are the results of my experiment. I only had fine silver glitter, not superfine, but I did get quite a bit of sparkle, which is just what I wanted. I mixed it with some clear Elmer's glue. The way I'd most likely be using it would be for the glint of snow on Christmas cards, or stars in the night sky, so I'd probably be using the tiniest of dots, like in the center row. Once I perfect the best way of applying this glitter glue, (I'm sure it's too clumpy to go through the needle tip applicator), I'll be all set. Thanks again for all your help!

If you really like Stickles (I do!), one called Frosted Lace has no color at all. I have the others that seem colorless, but they have either a greenish or pinkish holographic tint to them. When I want some sparkle for snow, I go for the Frosted Lace.

I like the Tonic Nuvo Shimmer brush pen, and the Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle brush pen.

I found the wink of Stella one had a golden hue to it whereas these have a "clearer" hue them.

There is a gold Wink of Stella (and other colors which I gave away). The clear I have is clear, though it is translucent or transparent so picks up colors around it and under it.

Wink is my go to but I don’t like too much sparkle and it’s more subtle than Stickles, for example, though more than one coat can be added to give more oomph. Shake early and often.

Interesting question. Glad you asked it! As the saying goes you "made me look!" lol

I have all the colors of stickles except the distress line. (so if you want to know about a color, PM me It is the only thing I have all the colors of.
I am looking at my sample board...

Diamond and Icicle have pink tones with icicle far more so
Crystal and Star dust are in the blue zone. Crystal is the most by far and in the aqua tones. Star is also aqua but much less.

Twinkle was new in 2018, and also has blue tones but more like periwinkle.

Frosted lace and Sprinkled sugar. Sugar is matte white. Some people might like that for snow if they want subtle. Lace is as Sabrina and Sue described it-a shimmer. Like shimmer paper vs glitter paper. So it has a sheen to it.

Unicorn has both blue and pink in it.

I am going to guess that what people mean by colorless is pure white? Like light bouncing off? None of the stickles are that (and glittery)

I am skipping the pens because there has been lots of good talk on that already.

So then I looked at my tiny collection of glitter pastes...
Bobunny Sugar...on white is both blue and pink. But it gets really interesting on black paper where it suddenly pops and has far more blue to it-like it is almost a blue paste not white base.

Nuvo moonstone is the same on white but on black is white paste.

I don't have one pure one yet.

So then I went to glitter powders thinking this is where we hit it...

I agree with Dina. Martha Stewart crystal fine is true white glitter. So is Stampendous ultra fine crystal snow and WOW Snow. Elizabeth craft (EC) Crystal clear is but it is SO fine that the glitter effect is less on white. It is better on black but still subtle. All four on black are semi opaque.

What is interesting is you would think White "glitter" would fit in there but EC white is just opaque, and Sparkle and sprinkle Bridal is the shimmer look, as is Art institute pearl. So not all glitter powders actually glitter.

Hi my name is Wavejumper, and I have a sparkle addiction

Now I want to see that tonic fresh snowfall and the rock candy distress stickles! I think I have the pixie dust but have not tried it yet.

Wow, "sparkle addiction", is a good description! If you're going to be addicted to something, I guess sparkle is about as good as it gets.

I think it's really frustrating that Stickles doesn't give some kind of a description of the colors contained in their products that "seem" like they'd be colorless. Thank you so much for all the info. I'll probably give Stickles Frosted Lace a try, but I may just end up staying with my diy stuff. I tried a superfine glitter that I had. ( Another one that I thought was just silver, but had other colors.) I didn't get a whole lot of sparkle from that one. The fine silver glitter delivered the best sparkle, although I know it's hard to see in the picture I posted. It's awful when you have a picture in your head of exactly how you'd like something to look, and you can't find a way to get there!

I'm thinking my diy glitter may deliver what I'm looking for. I'll have to come up with a card design that needs a touch of sparkle, and see how it does. It may be a while, because I've started "spring" cleaning, but when I do, I'll post it. Thanks again for all the help!!!

If you don't mind embossing powder, SU made one called Winter Wonderland that is white with silver glitter. The silver glitter is very fine and give off a colorless sparkle.

Has anyone tried this spray from Technique Junkies?

https://techniquejunkies.com/dazzle-...-bliss-topper/

I hope to go to the SSAT your next month, so I started a wishlist for each vendor. I have a few stamps (love them) from TJ but not any of the sprays.

I had not heard of this winter wonderland......Do you know when it came out? It is probably retired, but now I "want" it, lol......

I have no idea when it came out and am now beginning to wonder if it was SU. I put all my EP into different containers, so I can't b sure. However, this stuff looks the same as mine.

I have a few of the shimmering bliss sprays, but haven't tried the topper. I like the sprays, which make beautiful backgrounds. You do have to be careful to shake side to side and not up and down to keep the mica from clogging the nozzle.

OK, so I got some Frosted Lace Stickles and I really don't detect any color in it! In my opinion, it has more shimmer than sparkle. I think it will give me what I'm looking for in a snow effect. For stars, I think I may stick with my DIY glitter glue for a bit more sparkle. So again, thanks to you all I now have the solution to both problems, shimmery snow and sparkly stars. Woo hoo!
