Favorite/Best Printer

Hello Everyone,

I’m looking for a little feedback on printers. I’m looking to purchase one that will accept cardstock, drawing paper, etc. Basically one that is good for crafters. I like to print things out for coloring or painting, but would like to print out on appropriate paper, not just regular printer paper. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Elaine, I purchased a new printer last February. It's a Canon PIXMA TR8520. I searched quite a bit to find a printer that would be IMHO crafter friendly. In addition to regular printing, it has a rear feeder so you can use it to print on papers that can't go through on a roller. I have used it to print on Papertrey Ink's Stampers' Select White which I think is 110# (I'm really not sure of the weight but I know it is a heavy duty cardstock) and it came out perfect! I was never able to print satisfactorily on this cardstock using my old printer which was a Hewlett Packard Photosmart 6520. I have not had the need to print on watercolor paper so I don't know about that. Also, fyi, there are six individual ink cartridges that are used in this printer. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for the info. I was looking at the PIXMA, so it’s great to hear from somebody about it. We have always used HP’s in our house and actually have a color laser printer. But I was looking to print out on cardstock, etc. It’s good to know you can print on heavier cardstock.

Elaine, I've owned HPs since the 1980's and had always been happy with them except for this last one. The first one we owned was a laser printer that only printed in black and I absolutely loved it - after that it was all color ink jet printers which worked great, too. But like you, I wanted a printer I could use heavier card stock with and the only way I knew was to get a printer that will feed the cardstock from the back of the printer straight thru (not go around a roller). These types were hard to find but I persevered Good luck on your search!

I use an HP8700 Office Jet printer. It's big and kind of expensive. It has been worth every dime. I love it so much. The most important that it accepted all the paper mediums I throw at it from watercolor paper to sticker paper. I am a power user when it comes to my printer.

I had an Epson before that. Just a lovely standard Epson from WalMart. I really loved it. I upgraded to the HP so I could use their HP Instant Ink program.

Thanks for the info. I need something that will accept different kinds of papers. So I’ll have to investigate that HP model. We currently have 3 HP printers, an Office Jet, an Envy model and a color laser printer. As I said, looking for one that will take different mediums without issues or making me jump through hoops - lol!
