Trouble with penny sliders

Hi! I finally made a slider card with the perfect amount of foam tape and it glides so smoothly! I was thrilled and had so much fun playing with it. But disaster! The glue dot I used to attach the little penguin to the penny, with an MFT sliding element (a little oval plastic thingie), keeps detaching! Argh!! Anyone know of a better adhesive that works for metal and plastic? How do you attach your pennies? I want to continue to use the penny as the weight helps the penguin slide.

My recollection from one done at an LSS was that adhesive foam was placed between the pennies rather than glue dots.Found one that shows it, though maybe yours is a different type?

How frustrating when something is coming together so well and then *splat*. But you’ll figure it out! And boy is that cute.

ETA: My apologies - you’re not talking about penny-to-penny, but when my typical crafting adhesives don’t work well, Gorilla Glue often comes to the rescue. (I don’t use a hot glue gun on anything but apparently most crafters have them, so wonder about that too.)

bjeans is correct. You need a Dimensional (Pop Dot) between the two pennies. This type of card is called a "Spinner Card" (because the pennies spin). Check in the Tutorials under Spinner Cards (by Cambria Turnbow). Check out the gallery samples too.

Very cute with the sliding penguin! Love the idea instead of spinning! I wonder if just a dab of gorilla glue would work like mentioned. I have also used Liquitex gloss gel to hold metal to paper, not sure about metal to plastic tho. Gorilla glue would be a good place to start.

Just remember, a little goes a long way.

Ditto! I’m not a big fan of cute - but adore that card. And was so focused on the problem to solve, didn’t focus on the card itself until later. (My typical broken brain.)

Aside from the penguin fun, the curves and and contrast of the blues and white = balanced beauty.

try a piece of strong double sided tape or a dab of E6000 glue. very cute card!

I was going to recommend E6000 too, but you will need to let it dry. It takes longer to dry than some of the other glues I've used.

I just bought gorilla glue, no idea why I didn’t think of it. Maybe I was thinking that it doesn’t work on paper. But the paper sticks fine. It’s the plastic to the penny. So GG should work!!

Instead of foam, I’ve used a special piece of plastic from MFT called a slider element. I never seem to get my foam the right size and shape so I bought these. The shape makes it slide rather than spin. https://mftstamps.com/products/slider-elements

I appreciate the compliments so much. I have to give credit to someone on the Ellen Hutson DT as I heavily CASEd it from their website. Mine is definitely different but the idea is very similar as to the placement of the hill, penguins and water. My sentiment is different and the colours vary.

I haven't tried this, but here's an idea: Punch out a penny-sized cardstock circle and glue that down really well to the penny. Once completely dry, attach the paper side to the plastic spacer using a glue dot. If the two pieces still don't stick, maybe try gluing some cardstock to the plastic slider, too, and attach paper to paper.

I've had luck using the Tombow mono metal glue for stubborn to hold embellishments.

I'm adding my experience to using pop dots for the adhesive - they are the only thing that works. Absolutely adorable penguin card! Great blending on the sky!

I appreciate the advice to use pop dots but I really want to use the plastic slider pieces I bought. So I tried the gorilla glue and so far so good! I made a bunch so I won’t have to wait the 24 hours for the glue to totally set. Can’t wait to make more!
PS I still have to remove the excess glue from most of them. But it’s not hard, I just pick it off with the tip of a craft knife.

You could use the pop dots with the plastic pieces - I do it all the time. Just FYI
