Default Intriguing new product for using plain rubber

Sandy Allnock demoed a new product out of Purple Onion. It is a base for unmounted red rubber stamps so we don't have to use tapes or glues. She shows it at 30 seconds.

Works on the misti but the smaller size could be on a block.

HMMMMMM......intriguing! They are already sold out of it but we can pre-order for the next batch.

What do you think?

It looks intriguingly like a Gel Press! It would be fascinating to hear from somebody who has handled both products to see whether they have a similar feel. I’ve used my Gel Press in my Misti but never tried to get anything else to cling to it, I suspect it would be a bit too thick but maybe it’s worth an experiment or two.

I don’t know if Sandy mentions this on the video, but the Purple Onion website states that these clear mounting stamps can be cut to fit blocks.

I ordered a smaller one but was after they were sold out. When it arrives I’ll compare to Gelli Arts presses. They look thinner. If I remember. Or you remind me. ;)

At last! A way to get a good impression from unmounted wheels without the time and expense of EZ mount! Thank you!

This looks like a giant version of the Scotch brand removable mounting squares, which I learnt about on a Misti thread here on SCS. A big sheet would be better than sticking the smaller Scotch squares next to each other for a large stamp, of course.
I have seen adverts on pinterest for a similar sticky removable strip - probably way overpriced as such things are in those sort of adverts.

It also looks a little like a less sticky version of TackNPeel.

I think I have stumbled across a happy coincidence. After watching the video I kept thinking this product was similar to something I have in my stash. Years ago I purchased a Cricut product that could be used to create your own stamps. It was a material that you could cut with your Cricut machine and then be able to create a silicone type of stamp. I never cut any stamp so I still have the two 6" by 6" sheets in their original pocket. I found the Cuttables and played around a little bit and guess what?!? It seems to be a very similar type of product. My purple onion unmounted stamp seem to stick on easily and it peels on and off my Misti with ease. I am excited to play with this a little more. I am not sure if they still make this for Cricut machines. Just thought I would pass along the information for anyone like me who still has this untouched product. I am glad I didn't throw it out!

Silhouette also sold this as "Silhouette Stamp Material" You can still buy it, but it looks like they are discontinuing it. Sadly the stamps weren't that great at holding ink. I don't think you missed out on much by not using it for its original purpose.

I was gifted the Silhouette set. Never used it for it's intended purpose, but those sheets work great in my Tim Holtz stamp platform. Adds a tiny bit of cushion to give you a great impression

Fine! I ordered some- I have SO many unmounted stamps, and I'm getting tired of buying mounting foam. (Actually, thank you for posting!)

I've got a few unmounted red rubber stamps from Club Scrap, and I just use their "Mount It" glue on the backs (you put a thin coat on, let it dry, and then the stamps just peel on and off your blocks with no problem), and just make sure I have foam underneath my paper I'm stamping on. No problems with getting a good impression - and if there is, with the stamp positioner, I just ink and stamp again. Sometimes I have to add a couple pieces of paper underneath my foam as shims, but it's not usually a problem. This thing looks intriguing, but I think I can probably manage without it. Though it IS much, much cheaper than all that EZ Mount!

I just have a few questions about the "Mount It" glue for unmounted stamps. Does it leave a sticky residue on the Misti door? Also, how difficult is it to apply the glue to the stamps? I'm guessing that you use a foam applicator.??? (By foam applicator, I'm describing one of those "brush-type" applicators, but it's rectangular in shape, made of foam & is
often used to apply Mod Podge.) Also, how difficult is it to clean the foam applicator, after applying the glue? Does it wash off easily?

It seems remarkably like nano cling adhesive. Which I already have!! Yeah! It’s that clear stuff they advertise pretty much everywhere that you can use to keep your phone from slipping, mount an iPad on the wall etc. It goes by many names but it’s everywhere. You can get large sheets or on a roll like tape. Mine is from ClingAdhesives.com

The Purple Onion clear mounting stamp arrived. It’s only 1/8” thick and while flexible is much stiffer than a Gelli Arts plate. I don’t have the other items people were comparing it to.

It smells like some photopolymer stamps - which makes sense since it’s called a clear stamp.

I couple videos are on the website:
Clear Mounting Stamp - 4 x 6 - Purple Onion Designs

Sadly, the package I bought from Amazon came in, and I just tried it. It sticks beautifully to the Tim Holtz platform, but in no way does it stick at all to the back of an unmounted red rubber stamp. I tried several. Bummer. I'm sure I'll find some use for it, but it ain't gonna serve this purpose. Sigh.

I also tried my Silhouette stamp material and sadly got the same results, it sticks to the platform but not the unmounted stamp :(

So, Heather, since I don't have a Silhouette, what am I going to do with this stuff now? I've been thinking I don't have a gelli plate- maybe this stuff would work for that?

Silhouette must be different than the old Cricut product. I have never seen the Silhouette product. Could it be used for a reverse stamp?

Since it does stick to your stamp platform I wonder if you could coat it with some sort of temporary sticking product? I am thinking of a spray like some people use to re-stick cutting mats or to temporarily hold stencils in place. I think one is called Pixie Spray and I believe Krylon also carries some kind of spray. Just brainstorming some possible ideas for you to possibly try.

Since I blew $10 on this stuff, I really hesitate to blow any more money on experiments. I might as well have just ordered the real stuff designed to hold the unmounted stamps- but did I??? No, I tried something cheaper (at least the shipping was free, and there were 3 sheets in the package). Maybe I'll put the real thing on my gift wish list and let (make) DH buy it for me.

Contrapat, I'm sorry it didn't work for you, but thanks for the report. I have been busy and did not order any.
All I need it for is to use with SU stamps that won't stick, so it's not work an investment for met. I'll continue to use Double-stick Scotch Tape.

Have been sick, but got mine from Purple Onion, and tested just the stickiness with bare rubber stamps-– works great! Can't wait to use it in my stamp positioner...

Do you find that the Mount It glue sticks to the Misti cover? I use Aleenes TAck it over and over on my unmounted stamps but it leaves a sticky residue on the Misti. Trying to figure out what else to do so I don't have to clean it every time.

Have you tried it with unmounted rubber stamps yet? I'm wondering if the rubber sticks to it as well as to the Misti or TH platform.

I just wish it weren't so pricey. I don't use EZ Mount because it makes the stamps bulky and they won't store in my binders..so had been using Tack It Over and Over to use with acylic blocks. The adhesive gets left behind on the Misti cover though and makes a mess. I may have to break down and get one of these from Purple Onion!

That gel-press-pad thingie looks pretty kewl. I'm going to look into it. Thanks for posting. : )
The Sandy Allnook video linked above..... I do love my photopolymers, but YES!, I feel rubber gives me a better over-all impression. I reeeally prefer rubber.
