Default NY * Fall Stamping in CNY 11/2/19

CNY Stampers Get Together AKA The Gathering
Saturday, November 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m.
First United Church of East Syracuse
823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse

Please join us at our 28th Central New York Stamping GetTogether, otherwise known as The Gathering. It
s a full day of stamping fun!

Cost - $25.00 per person ($27 via PayPal). Registrations must be paid no later than September 20. Mail registration form and payment to me (info is in the registration form). There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else.

There is a lot of info to digest but reading through it should help answer many questions. If clarification is needed, please ask. This thread is our main way to communicate with you and we are here to help! It
s best to subscribe to this thread so that you see the updates. You will find final counts and other important info here on page 1 once the event is closed.

Mandatory Table Project (aka
shoebox)-There will be table projects in the morning AND the afternoon, so bring your idea and all the supplies (in kits) needed for making your project with your table mates in the morning; another group will make your exact same card in the afternoon so please provide basic written instructions since you wont be there with your project. Your project stays stationary; youlld o the moving. Your project should be a full card, including layers and embellishment(s), or any other project that involves stamping.

When our final count is in, you will know the table sizes and how many kits will be needed. You will also need four completed copies of your project. This will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s) and should*NOT*take more than 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Please provide any special adhesive that's needed. So, just to say it another way: Bring 4 completed projects + makeup 20 packets of materials**in kits** to make your project. Extra parts to fix any"oops" should also be provided.

NOTE: Please do NOT do stamping ahead of time. That takes the fun out of making your card! You can, however, do die cutting or punching or dry embossing that doesn
t require stamping to be done beforehand.

Your project for the morning and afternoon should be all the same. Please use only quality products and make these something you
d be thrilled to get yourself.

There will be 3 tables, each with 10 stampers. You'll stamp at two of the tables, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. That's how I got the count of 20 (someone always asks). Plus you'll need the 4 completed.

NOTE: Because you will be switching tables, but your projects staying behind, it is CRITICAL that you provide basic directions for your project unless it is VERY obvious. Yes, I am repeating myself. Please include your name and SCS name as well. Thank you!

Swaps - ALL SWAPS ARE OPTIONAL but participation in at least one is encouraged. You
ll know how many to make when we post the final counts, and Youll have plenty of notice since the deadline is well in advance of the event. Most swaps will include a+1 for a door prize and full details will be found in the individual write-ups.Please use a Post It to include your name and contact info.

Up! items must be offered for trade only; you can sell retired items. Sorry but w cant be responsible for missing items so bring things at your own risk.

Door Prizes - Donations from our group are most welcome and always appreciated.Let me know if you
d like to make a door prize donation and what it is. Our participants are always so generous! Please DONT wrap your door prize donations. The +1s from the swaps as well as the extra sets from the shoebox projects will be awarded as door prizes. Well have another 50/50 raffle to support the event for next time as well.

Gift Swap - You don
t have to sign up for this one, but if you would like to participate, bring a wrapped gift related to our stamping passion. Everyone who brings a WRAPPED gift to swap will also leave with one. Value on these should be in the $5-10 range, and hand-crafted projects are always appreciated! If its something youd like to take home, its probably perfect! Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. Wrap it up prettily to encourage stealing.REMEMBER: Hand-crafted or stamping-related, please!!!

Donations for the church “baskets” are welcome and encouraged! Please be sure that donated canned and dry goods haven’t exceeded their expiration dates. Paper goods (toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, food wraps, etc.) and laundry items are all appreciated. Save the personal care items (shampoo, deodorant, etc.)for other collections. Thank you!

Other - Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, including your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just can
t stamp without, like: bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, stamp cleaner and whatever else you can't stamp without! Did I say adhesive????? Adhesive! You are likely to need more than you think.

Nametags - Labels will be available for nametags but feel free to make your own if you'd rather.

Don't forget your camera!

REMEMBER: Complete the registration form and forward with your $25 payment($27via PayPal) by September 20. All funds collected will be spent on the event. Your registration is complete when your payment is received. If you have any questions, please ask! Looking forward to seeing you in November.

Swap Etiquette -- These are some good general guidelines that I found on SCS. I hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all make and receive wonderful swaps!

These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe" (but you do need directions).

1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments (please do use a MINIMUM of one embellishment and two layers), or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer. Last of all, quality means to use cardstock that is a nice weight not some flimsy stuff that has the feel of construction paper.

2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. Post Its work great, but a plain piece of paper or your personalized stamp work just as well.

3) There is just one swap requiring all current Stampin' Up! products this time so please be sure to read before committing. All other swaps can use any quality stamps, cardstock, inks, etc. This is not the time to unload your cheap cardstock! Please, nothing flimsy!

4) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!

5) Swap sizes: NVR & SUO card fronts -- a bit smaller than 4.25 x 5.5 suggested. Recipes swaps are 6x6. Other swap size specifics are noted in the write ups.

Please ask any questions you might have and someone will be sure to answer. We have all made a lot of great friends getting together at these gatherings so we hope you’ll join us at this one!

Resummarizing: Layers - at least two! Dig into those embellishments, give your fellow swappers a real treat! Put those punches to work! Have fun, try something different! Show some pride and put your name on the back!!

Swapping will likely be around lunch time.

Food Info -- Please remember when making/purchasing your food item that you do not need enough to feed an army. The main dish lunch items and breakfast casseroles are always the hardest to fill so please consider one of those if you haven’t before.

There is usually a very nice variety coming: donuts - cake - muffins - sticky buns - cookies - brownies - candy - chips & dip - specialty dips - casseroles/main dish items - salads and side dishes - bread & butter - cheese & crackers - fruit - and more.

So, my suggestion is to make/bring a "normal" amount not a super size. I am sure there will still be leftovers but everyone should be able to find something they like. If you don't believe that to be the case, please feel free to pack your own lunch. We do have a refrigerator and stove available and there are plenty of outlets to plug in crockpots. There will NOT be a microwave available unless someone brings it!

DIRECTIONS to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive. Get the specifics from a mapping site if you need them. But, generally speaking, most everyone will be taking Rte. 481 (from 81, 690 or 90) and exiting at Kirkville Road WEST (exit 5W). Franklin Park Drive is way less than a mile from the exit and will be on your right. After the exit, you will pass one light, two gas stations at the corner where the light is, and a school (Bishop Grimes). The church is just a short way up Franklin Park Drive and will also be on your right. Parking and entry is in the BACK.

If you have headed in the wrong direction on Kirkville Road and get to that light, you will see a church on your left and houses on the right. That's Fremont Road; turn around and come back the other way.

REMEMBER: The church, our host, is collecting donations of non-perishable food items for baskets. Items like laundry detergent and toilet paper are also welcome, but personal care items should be donated elsewhere.

Other Important Stuff

When the event closes, this first page is where you will find all the updated info on the swaps, etc. Info will be updated as registrations arrive and the final details should be posted shortly after the deadline.

Shoebox Project -- Some hints and some pleas:
** Your shoebox project (AND all swaps) should be AT LEAST *2* layers and it should include an embellishment, unless the design absolutely won't allow for this.

** Please "kit" your items. What does this mean? Place all pieces of card stock, embellishments, etc. needed to make your project into an envelope or baggie for each person. Why? (1) It protects your supplies from damage, like stray ink splotches. (2) It prevents random grabbing of your supplies, thus ensuring enough for everyone at the table. Save those junk mail envelopes; they're perfect to hold your kits and won't cost you anything.

** Please place out enough packets for the MORNING (plus some extras for "oops"). You will set out your remaining supply for the afternoon. Why? Mainly because it ensures that there are enough supplies for the afternoon stampers. Yes, we have come up short in the past.

** Please do NOT get too crazy with your project. The time allotted per project is only 5 to 10 minutes, not 20! Why? Well, if all projects took 20 minutes to create, we'd be there stamping til midnight. While we are not on a strict schedule, the day does move along and everyone enjoys being able to take a real lunch break and participate in the swaps that usually surround lunchtime without stressing that they haven't finished all the morning table projects. Whew!

** While you don't want your project to be too complicated to be completed within 5 to 10 minutes, you also don't want it to be just sticking layers together. Please don't do stamping ahead of time because that kinda takes away the fun!

** A thought for you speedy stampers...I know that some of you are very quick and find yourselves at loose ends before the rest of your table is finished. May I suggest that you ASK those who've fallen behind if they would appreciate some help in getting some "parts" done to help them finish up?

** Slower stampers...Please don't be offended if someone offers to help you complete some "parts" or ask for some help if you see that others have finished. Remember that you can finish assembly at home if you have all the pieces stamped and otherwise prepped.

Gift Swap -- Wrap it up as nice as you please. "Snitching" encouraged as part of the fun. Your gift can be handmade or purchased, but please be sure that it is stamping related.

Tables -- Tables are assigned randomly when you arrive. If you really, really (really) need to be with your friend (I'm saying this more for the newbies), we will try to accommodate you but the random assignments really do make for a good way to make new friends. Plus, you and your friend(s) will have different projects to share. Well, unless you're randomly assigned to the same table set. Then, you're welcome to ask someone at another table to switch with you. You will be at one table in the morning and a different table (but with the same table mates) in the afternoon.

FULL card - New Year's

So many complain that they just didn't have time to get Christmas cards out in time so this swap can help. It's anything to celebrate the new year in FULL card format with no vendor requirement.

Please use your best work and use the general swap guidelines in Post #2. A nicely stamped name on the back is fine but please keep in mind that the card may be sent so this is a good time to use a Post It for more details.

Participants:

1 Door Prize
2 Peg R
3 Janet S
4 Stacey D
5 Amy F
6 Beth S
7 Stephanie R
8 Catherine B
9 Georgine L
10 Nancy B
11 Gayla N

FINAL COUNT is 11

If anyone wants to recycle their 13 x 13 SU boxes and bubble wrap, I am always willing to take them off your hands. I sell a lot of dinnerware during the Holidays, and they fit the dinner plates and chargers perfectly. TIA

Quick question on the ATC. Is it OK to punch a small hole & put string-cord or not.

For the ATCs, it’s perfectly fine to punch a hole and add a string/ribbon. After all, they are for gift giving.

In fact, if they should have some way to attach to packages. Think dimensionals or double-sided tape if not a “tie on”.

I just mailed my check and registration! I'm in for the Christmas ATC and will bring a pasta salad.

We now have 29 stampers signed up. If you know of one (or three) more who might be interested, please let them know. I love it when we can make the table numbers even. (Of course, something always seems to happen to take that away, but I do TRY.)

Haven't received your registration yet, Becky. Thanks for the offer of another shoebox. Not ready to jump on that just yet.

As far as I know, I'm just waiting for today's mail to bring the 2 final payments. Once that happens, I'm going to declare us CLOSED with a nice round number of 30 stampers.

We are closed!

Swap leaders will be updating as they have time. Meanwhile, I've listed the preliminary counts in Post #1.

Your shoebox will be for 20 (including you) PLUS the 4 completed.
