Default Sentiment die strips?

Lately I see a lot of sentiment die strips around. We have the huge tiny line sentiment wave going on too. Which I like.

I think of them like my rice cooker. When anyone who can cook comes to my house and sees it, they laugh at me for having an "unneccessary toy". Well it aint a toy to me. I got it for a reason-I burn rice in a regular pot.

Actually I burn stuff semi regularly. The phone rings, the door bell rings, they are telling us who the murderer is in my movie and no, a timer is something I have become adept at thinking "ok coming-1 more minute"...but I digress.

I suspect anyone who comes to my house and can craft (or at least cut straight lines) will laugh at me about these things. But if I am struggling with the side of an A2, do we really think I am going to manage a 3/8 strip of paper? (NO) I can cut the banner ends but not the length.

My problem is: they are all seem to be solid. Well that does not help me.
I cant see where I am putting it like that. Why do that? I think they should be outlines! I still have to make sure it is centered. Am I not getting how to use them?

The set I am watching is this from Neat and tangled since it has the most choices. But again...solids. : If this was outlines I would be so thrilled I would actually pay full price!

Does anyone know of a nice set of outline ones?

I haven't looked, so have no recommendations for outline dies for these. Another answer is to cut the strip first, then stamp it. If you have a MISTI or other stamping platform, you can put the negative in there with scrap paper behind it to "practice" until you get the stamp positioned where you want it, then put the diecut strip back into the negative so it will be in the exact same spot as when you practiced...

If I have already stamped the sentiment, I take a scrap piece of card stock and cut the sentiment strip out of it. Then I take the negative piece of cardstock with the die cut cut out of it and place it over the stamped sentiment. Tape it in place with removable tape, then place the die back in the hole of the scrap piece and run the whole thing through my die cutter.
This does two things...it allows you to see exactly where the die will cut and also the hole in the scrap paper holds the die in place.

Taylored Expressions has a die with two coordinating stamp sets where the stamp has registration marks that line up with the die enabling you to stamp and cut out about 10 different sentiments at once. This doesn't exactly address your original topic, but I think it's a cool way to create a lot of perfectly stamped and cut skinny strip sentiments.

I have some ( both kinds) and I am thinking what I do is I just cut strips from skinny scraps on the solid dies and stamp after the fact. ( so, I have a little tall skinny metal measuring cup that is holding neekid banners and sentiment strips that were cut from scraps on my table)

I am thinking some of my see through ones are from My Favorite Things.

But I also have like the waffle flower A7 rectangle die set and it has some pretty small good for skinny sentiment sized dies as the smaller ones and all but the smallest are open.

Mama Elephant has a set called slim tags trio (and those are open) and skinny dies I use for sentiments quite a bit too.

(so, you don't have to just use strips) but, really I have that Simon Says Stamp set and even though its closed I do use it, I just cut first and stamp second.

I have pre cut die sentiments sitting around-when I run it once, I make extras.

Hmm it isnt MFT-they have a lot of the dies but they are all solid. I see the ME set....and the idea of using the smallest in sets...oooo. I never thought of that! Thanks Stacy! I have that set!

The way I deal with cutting sentiment strips is to start with a larger piece of card stock than I need and make sure I have two straight sides (cut with my paper trimmer. Then I stamp my sentiment on the card stock, near the bottom edge. If you have a Misti or stamp platform, you can line it up straight using the grid lines. If you don't have a Misti, you can just eyeball it.

Then I use my paper trimmer to do all the work from there on out. I cut my strip off of a larger piece of paper, rather than trying to stamp on a small strip, or trim a small strip. The banner dies are what drive me crazy because I can't manage to stamp straight on a strip that's already cut, and I can't line up the banner strip with my already-stamped sentiment...ugh.

My problem was even worse before I had surgery last year to correct distortion in my vision that caused me to see all straight lines as curved. Now at least one of my eyes can see lines fairly straight but it's still not quite accurate.

Personally a clear ruler does the job for me, sentiments come in so many different heights and lengths that I can't imagine having enough dies to always fit . Would something like this work for you? Cut Align

The Taylored Expressions sentiments and die strips are definitely on my wishlist. https://www.tayloredexpressions.com/...trips-die.html
Those narrow banners can be tough!

I also like the versatility of this banner set from The Greetery: https://thegreetery.com/collections/...ite-basics-die

It’s more than just strips, but all the dies are open and easy to coordinate with various Sentiment Suites stamps.

Do you have a MISTI? I wouldn't even separate those dies - cut them just like they are out of a card front. Put the cut pieces back into your new template. Line up your stamps on all the banners at once and stamp! Quick & easy.

Fast forwarding to 16:10 on the JM video below shows using scrap paper and die cut negative space to line up sentiments on strips. (Dies can be open or closed.) Lots of other tips and techniques for sentiment strips - or sentiments without strips - are in the video.

A simple PDF that shows aligning a die with an already stamped image from IO. It’s the same with sentiments. The templates can be kept with the dies.

It does not matter if the dies are solid or open.

WJ,

I really like Betsy Veldman's Sentiment Suite collection which has one set of dies and then a new coordinating stamp set in almost every release:

I balked at the price of the ones by Simon Says Stamp (the ones JM is using in the video), but I ended up getting them; they have saved my sanity time and time again.

I don't understand the reasoning behind the set by Pink and Main, with the height (?) being the same, but differing lengths. Why not just make one long skinny rectangle and one long skinny banner, then you can shorten them to any length.

I am going to get the heffy doodle though I may keep an eye on others. They reach the sides in both directions and are different widths. I can cut ends off and fishtail ok.

Thanks again!

Been thinking about it...

and I do not see why the drop pieces from this background die would not work for sentiment strips too...

Interesting idea. It would cut several strips at a time. Good way to think out of the box!

I have these MFT stitched fishtail sentiment strips dies and love them. I save the negative piece to put in my MISTI so I can put the die cut piece back into the hole, line up my stamp, and then stamp multiples of the same sentiment if I working on swaps. I also can just put the die cut strip into the corner of my MISTI and stamp on the strip.

Somewhere, perhaps a year ago, I saw a sheet of sentiment stamps with one matching die that cut them all out at once. Wish I had gotten it or was it just a dream? Has anyone seen this?

It's by Taylored Expressions. They have 3 different dies and about 8 or 9 different sentiment stamps that coordinate.

Simple Strips Die - video with one of the sets. Fast forward to about 6:14.

ETA They have four sets that go with them now: birthday, background, friendship and Christmas.

There are also mini strip sets with two different dies: regular and assymetrical.

Here’s the page with everything (I think):

I have plenty of sentiments stamp already which I seldom reach for to stamp on my cards and when I do I rarely emboss them. 99% of the time I will use my computer to type my sentiments in various fonts and sizes which I die cut with the strip dies or label shapes I already have.
Creative Market is my go to place for downloading fonts. Each week they offer at least 6 free downloads of fonts and images, or you can purchase your desired font/image with or without the license.
