Default Justine Hovey Techniques Resource Class

Just got word that Justine Hovey will be holding an on-line, ongoing techniques class that sounds terrific - a unique format and end product (binder), and really fun to my mind.

http://www.justinehovey.com/2019/06/...-resource.html

If someone signs up and feels like putting my name as referring you (not that you have to by any means!) - I’d be grateful. (Think prizes.) It’s Beth Burns.

ETA (since someone asked me): It’s a paid class, not free, and will be ongoing - every two weeks with no definite end date. The video and blog give details.

I’m not on Facebook, and if a little bunch of us take the class maybe it could be fun to have a thread - or even email - to talk about the lessons and share what we’ve done. Someone PM’d me she’s in and thought it would be neat to do that too.

I signed up and mentioned you Beth.

I am not sure when I will start though.

Looks like a good way to review and organize techniques. My current directions book is very different so I will see if I make this work or not her way. Would be a big space saver but I also know how I am about directions. I tend to write way more detail than most people.

Looks like she got a lot of people. Good for her! It is a very generous offer.

She did say though in the intro vid (post payment) she is capping it at one year-but at every 2 weeks that is 26 classes and each will have a bunch of different things. Plus she might throw in a few more in the next couple months after the year. But it is not "open ended" as originally stated. She will refund anyone this upsets.

Hi all,

As some time has passed, I'm checking in to see how these classes going for all of you and what your opinions are. Is it worth the cost?

Yes!!! I have been a stamper for 20 years and there’s so much I either forgot or new techniques I’m now learning from Justine. I highly recommend it!

I went ahead and signed-up. I've watched the first 2 classes (haven't DONE them, just watched) and I'm liking it. So far its all stuff I know - but never ever remember to do!

I liked that she showed you how she actually has it set-up in the binder. Last year I did a swatch binder for my inks and embossing powders and that has been so helpful. I can see this being a great aid, as well. Especially having them all demonstrated at once and not having to remember the techniques yourself and creating your own database as Justine must've done. If you know of additional techniques it should be easier to just add those into binder.

I believe this will help me use the products I already have so the cost of the class will be worth it in the long run.

Thanks, Beth, WJ, and cheermom!

I’m so glad you joined! And I have to admit I have not even begun! You’ve spurred me on. I should at least get a binder; I have the plastic insert pages.

And my ancient and much loved copy machine is dying. I have to get a new one; otherwise I’ll send the docs to my husband to print on his black & white laser. They’re all just black ink?

Hmmmm......I have a binder but not the inserts. (Which are on their way from Amazon as I type)

Justine said, in the 2nd video I think, that she originally did them in gray but people asked for them in black so she changed them to black. I just checked my downloads and it looks like just the first day is in a dark gray. The headings on all appear to be in a greenish color. I believe you have the option to save them in Word so you should be able to change the colors (she mentioned something about doing that but I didn't really pay attention, sorry).

One pet peeve though, and it must the secretary in me coming out, the names of the documents don't follow a standard format so you might want to rename them when saving them. Like I did (was compelled to!). lol

She sent out an email today saying she’s re-sending the old class emails, since apparently the links don’t work now that she had to change newsletter services - but it probably only effects people who signed up before September 10. So I’ll start downloading with the new ones she’ll be sending every day to catch up.

But I have to make a cat Halloween card first for our veterinarian/staff and find treat bags and treats for their cats. Priorities, right? ;)

And I’m with you 100% about parallel formatting! LOL

I have to admit I have not started either. Too tied up with medical. sigh. But I am archiving so I can get to it later. I do have both the binder and the inserts. I got the big pack of inserts thinking I may convert to this down the road with all my other directions though again, I cant see how. Sometimes I have whole typed pages about how to do something along with a sample stapled to it.

I saw that tech glitch she had.

Might you want to notate a card, possibly include the sample if small, and reference/code to the typed sheet that could live in a section in the back? And sorry about all the medical.

Im also doing this course its awesome. I havent started either to be honest (also medical stuff) long story short bedridden trying to get a home visiitng gp to avoid getting sick for 5 weeks every time i go to my GP every 2 months so im bad for 5 weeks of every 8 it sucks!
that means i cannot use computer phone emails do craft while i am too sick! and it is REALLY annoying!

But good news is that i have (hopefully) found a specialist who is currently searching (in australia i am)

back to the topic.

I wish i had more time to do craft to sort everything etc as i have a lot of supplies i have written a sep post about a project i made today (have half finished two of them for colour ideas i might have to figure out how to attach a photo but anyways!

I love being organised and having 6-8 different people coming in and out all day every day plus hubby and i cannot leave my bed to search when i lose something means if it WAS organised it would mean that it would be easier to say to someone get X its XYZ...and they would find for me. At the moment i have small boxes i end up with things all over me my bed a table next to my bed a chair which is acting like a table next to my bed and its just a tad chaotic but i dont get a lot of time between shifts medical/allied health and resting to do craft i sell my cards to raise money for charities and its VERY popular but have learnt to say no to people! this year i have made two knitted christmas wreaths for 2 different people and heaps of cards too! I love giving back!
But i will have to start doing the things in the videos and also get my hubby or my support worker to cut up the cardstock for the binder we have binders i keep meaning to buy some of the pockets i dont have any instructions written down but i often watch utube at the same time as doing something the first time but since ive got memory issues thats why i thought this would be AMAZING!

Anyways i am going to post my other post now (why i came on here cos i need some advice about the thing i am making currently.

thanks for this post

from Erin
