Need Help With Die-Cutting Issue

Hi Everyone -


After a very long hiatus from card-making, so long that I have forgotten some of the things I used to know, I got out my Cuttlebug and tried to do some die-cutting with Lawn Fawn dies.

The issue is that the edge of the die is getting embossed into the cut-out and I can't remember what to do to prevent that from happening.

The sandwich I used was A Plate, C Plate, die facing up, cardstock, B Plate. Using two B Plates instead of the C Plate is not thick enough.

Any suggestions???

Update...

I went to my local stamp store today and told them about my dilemma. I was told it's a common occurrence with today's dies and that any embossed lines can be flattened/smoothed out by running the cut-out through the machine a second time with an embossing mat - I think you leave the B plate out of the sandwich. Apparently, there is a video on YouTube that demonstrates how to do it, but I haven't been able to find it yet.

Does anyone know of this video???

I read here one time to flip my sandwich over so you are cutting down instead of up to help eliminate those unwanted lines dies sometimes leave. It definitely helped, something to with the roller pressure.

That's how I always cut but still get the marks. SU Swirly dies ( don't recall the right name) leaves dots from the release holes-so annoying

Try searching Jennifer McGuire videos for help about removing/avoiding lines. My memory is telling me I saw her do one on the issue. Just had a quick look through, and can't spot one that deals with it directly, so I'm guessing it's in a video she's done using die cuts. I do think it was something like using the rubber mat though.

Thank you everyone for the information you provided - it's been interesting to read and will no doubt be helpful! I'll see if I can find Jennifer McGuire's video. I knew the Cuttlebug is being retired and managed to buy some spare plates recently.

Last night I attempted to get rid of the embossed lines on my die-cuts using the embossing mat method. Unfortunately, it didn't work - the mat made the sandwich too thick. I tried every sandwich combination imaginable using the A, B and C plates with and without the mat - the sandwich was either too thick or too thin. I will try this method one more time using paper/cardstock/cardboard shims.

If it still doesn't work, you have all given me some other options to try for die-cutting and line removal - I appreciate it. One member's post about using an iron to smooth out lines sounds good right about now... lol ;)
