ORGANIZATION BEING FEATURED: Living Water Teaching – Shoebox Project
DESCRIPTION: Living Water Teaching is a mission organization with US offices as well as an international campus in Guatemala. Their primary focus is Central America but they do have missionaries around the world. They have medical campaigns that go out and treat the people who travel miles and miles on foot to receive care they wouldn’t receive otherwise.
Our main focus for July will be their Operation Shoebox project. The project was started in November 1996. This portion of the Ministry provides the opportunity to bless thousands of children each year around Christmas time with a Shoebox of needed items like a comb or hairbrush, toothbrush, coloring book and crayons, pencils, pens, and a notepad, socks, hair items, and a toy or gift according to the age and gender of the child.
CONTACT PERSON: Zella
TYPE OF CARDS REQUESTED:
While Christmas cards for children will be the primary focus, they also welcome thank you cards (sent to donors) as well as Birthday, note cards, and any other occasions (used for Missionaries and their families to send).
SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS: Envelopes are appreciated if possible. Since the Christmas cards will be given to children please refrain from small parts that could be pulled off and cause a choking hazard. Other cards they do mail so please keep that in mind when it comes to layers and/or embellishments.
GUIDELINES: Please keep in mind, we are representing SCS by sending our cards each month. Recycling is always good, but only use products on your cards that you would like to receive on cards. Also, our card donations are not tax deductible and it is not required. Please do not ask for a receipt. There have been groups that will send thank you's but the "referred by" person keeps us informed and passes on the thank you's. Most of these organizations are volunteers and spend countless hours helping others, let's help make their jobs easier and bless them in helping others.
MAILING ADDRESS: Please mail cards to...
Living Water Teaching Attn: Debbie Spanberger PO Box 1190 Caddo Mills, TX 75135

For a little added inspiration you can join us in playing along with the OPTIONAL challenge each month. This is only optional and you do not have to play along to send your cards to the featured cause for the month. We always take cards no matter if you play along in the challenge or not.
This months challenge is to be inspired by the picture below (doesn't that just bless your heart?):
So our challenge for July is Christmas Cards for children....have fun with it and bless a child. __________________________________________________

Perfect month for me....I have 6 shoe boxes of Christmas cards that I need to thin out. Plus so many other catagories. I may have to break this one down to 2 priority mail boxes. Love those flat rate boxes..holds lots of cards!!
I posted this in the June tread but also wanted to put it here so you will all see it. I received this today regarding the June cause....you all are amazing!!! ❤❤❤
Zella,
I waited until today to make sure I had all the cards accounted for. Even this morning, I received an envelope. You will not believe the number we received. 1406! This is amazing and extremely generous of the stampers. Thank you for again promoting us! We won't be in want for a card for any occasion. :0) I sent thank yous to each donor, but unfortunately, there are two people who won't receive one. One was returned as undeliverable, but looks like I had the right address- not sure why it was returned. And one more had extra tape placed on it by the post office, and removing the tape also removed the return address. I'd hate for someone to think their donation was not received or appreciated. Please tell the group that we are blessed beyond belief!

Question - Do the children we're making cards for understand English?
Is using English limiting the organization?
I don't have any spanish sentiments - i can get SVG files, but if i do that, it that then going to limit them?
And are Nativities / Angels / Possible religious themes OK?
Great question! If you want to do something in Spanish that is fine...but a lot are bilingual and those that aren't have translators right there. To be honest with the poverty there a lot can't even read but they will love the card just because every little thing is so greatly appreciated. ☺

so maybe santa, trees, stars, cutsie kids card front without worrying too much about sentiments?
Do we want to put a note inside?
or maybe there put Merry Christmas?

It's completely up to you if you want to include a sentiment or not. And the age ranges vary from young children to teens....and I'm sure they wouldn't leave adults out too....☺
I sent out 2 large priority boxes to them. A total of 273 cards, lots of pens, pencils, etc... I was formally a teacher and a Creative Memories demo and had tons of pens and pencils. I hope they can use it all!

Hello All! I am new to the group and determined to participate in my first cards for a cause. I picked (for me) a tough month to start - I am a relatively new card maker and have never made either Christmas cards or cards for children. I did find a fairly whimsy paper pack that I think will work though and have made a few cards so far.
I do have a question - Are pop dots ok to use on the cards for a bit of dimension? Or will that make them too thick? I am not going gangbusters, but I do have a small sentiment tag that I think would look nice with a bit of dimension. Any input anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.
I did try to to include a photo of what I have done so far, but this is my first post and apparently I cannot post a photo until I am more established.
Thanks in advance!
Becca
I think I figured out how to upload a pic of the sample cards I mentioned in my post above. Will greatly help with feedback!
Thanks,
Becca
Great cards! I'm pretty sure pop dots are fine. I mail things all the time with them. They don't make a card too thinkt o mail.

Great idea on taking pictures of your cards! They are adorable Becca! I would love to see pictures of the cards people make! I always forget until after I seal them.
Thank you all for your feedback! I am feeling much better about the cards now. And Sharon, I'm with you - I'm always eager to see what everyone else is creating. I find it inspiring!
Some of the cards I made for this month. I'll be sending 80 cards out shortly.

Turns out there are actually 110 cards. LOL I guess I worked harder than I thought. Hoping to get them in the mail tomorrow.

So i managed to get cards done - i found a way to work on cards while not at my craft desk...I learned you really can assemble Christmas Cards on a hospital tray using just a bottle of glue and a pair of tweezers!
24 cards going in mail today to Debbie - tracking number 9405503699300065512523.
Just wanted to let you know that the are soooo amazed with your talent and generosity!!!!! I'll let you know what the final count is...but they are loving opening all the packages and looking forward to putting those cards to good use! Thank you for all you do!!!
Soooo....ready to start thinking about August? I have the group all lined up...it's one that Sharon suggested and they are honored to be featured for August. I can't wait to share the details with you! But alas...we have to wait until next week.
I've been thinking of something and wanted to bounce the idea off you all and see what you think... I love the fact that our group can send love all over... What do you think about trying to touch the whole USA? I was thinking about each month not only being a new cause but also a new state...for example our August cause is located in Florida....so we would check FL off and since this month we sent to TX we could check TX off...and just keep going through each state in the USA until we have checked them all off.... Your thoughts? The only downside would be that it would take us a really long time go get through the whole USA....so maybe do a region? Hmmm...just tossing it around.
Of course anyone that has any causes near and dear to their hearts please let me know - whether it be a specific organization or just a general idea and we can find a group that supports that cause....
Enjoy your weekend!!! And of course - Happy Crafting!
I like that idea!! I just love being able to donate my cards to so many places! I'm on a roll to use up my backlog of paper from Stampin Up. If I ever get caught up next would be to go through my backlog of scrapbook paper that I have. I admit I was (and still am) a paper hoarder.
That sounds like a wonderful idea. We can all take a trip to all 50 states. Sharon I also am a paper hoarder. I have sooooo much paper and yet every time I visit a craft store, first thing I check out is their scrapbook paper. Now with all the paper I have I still have a difficult time finding just the right paper for a card LOL.

Hello All! I am going to be a late sender, but I will be mailing out 60 cards in tomorrow's mail. I have seen folks mention the flat rate boxes for mailing and will plan to go that route (unless someone has a better suggestion for this number of cards?).
I mentioned that I love seeing what others have created, so I am sharing my cards as well. I wound up making a total of 74, but some of them weren't as kid-like as I had hoped, so I pulled them out of the mix and put them aside. The two pics don't cover every card, but it gives a good summary of the designs.
Zella, I like the idea of spreading the love, and if we find organizations in different states, that is great! If it's a challenge, I don't mind doubling up on repeat states though - To me, finding great recipient organizations is the most important factor.
I appreciate the support and warm welcome from everyone and am looking forward to participating again next month!

I posted a box yesterday (USPS Tracking No. 9505 5143 1068 9210 3133 47), which is scheduled to arrive Thursday, August 1. They are all 4-Bar to fit in small hands, and the sentiment is Feliz Navidad. Thank you so much for the opportunity to put a smile on a child's sweet face.
Hello Everyone! Well it's hard to believe it's August already....but here it is! I'm about to post the August cause...hope you all check it out and enjoy!!! God bless you!!!!
