lines transfering from cut plate

How can I keep cut lines on a plate from transferring to the cardstock that I'm cutting? The cardstock is quite thick and rather soft. Thanks in advance.

Put a thin sheet of copy paper on the plate, then the die (cutting edge up), then your card, then the top layer. If it's thin copy paper, then your card should still cut with no problems.

You can position your die up or down - just make sure the thin sheet of paper is between the 'right' side of your cardstock and the plate.

When you get new plates, try keeping one of them always free from cuts and you'll avoid that problem. I've tried it with the clean one on the bottom or on the top and didn't find a huge difference - keeping the bottom plate clean makes most sense, but I just got tired of having to tape my dies in place every time and rebelled. With that method, if you usually cut with the blade down, flip the bottom plate when it starts to bow up slightly - you want the center of the plate against the machine.

Good tips. You could also, right from the first use of the new plates, use the copy paper trick.
