Default Spellbinders Glimmer system

I've just spent the last 5 hours playing with the Spellbinders Glimmer Foil System, and I'm amazed - I have foiled using the Glimmer plates and using cutting dies, used sticky embossing powder to foil a stamped image, used foil on adhesive, transferred die outlines using transfer paper, recreated that velvet stamping technique, and foiled a pattern on ribbon, and done some letterpress printing - more too! I had no idea the machine, foils, and plates were so versatile.

Here's my blog link for full details:
http://www.dinakowalcreative.com/201...immer-hot.html

Some highlights before you go...

debossing with a glimmer plate, no ink or foil

foiling on satin ribbon

Foiling with a cutting die and foiling plate at the same time

stamping into velvet

foiling a stamp image with sticky EP

applying the foil with adhesive (no heat)

transferring a cutting die outline with white Saral transfer paper

letterpress with Versafine Clair ink

and of course traditional heat foil stamping!

Wow! That's: A) a LOT of experimenting (with beautiful results), B) A very versatile system, apparently, and C) I'm jealous that you could find 5 hours to play! Off to check the blog post - thanks for sharing!

Great post, thank you!

(You can foil with an embossing folder too!)

Dina is fabulous. I have a question regarding using Gemini plates. I bought some plates by Gemini and they work very well in the Spellbinders Glimmer Foil System. I was ready to buy a background plate from HSN. It was two separate plates that were stunning. The lace one was awesome. Then I looked at the measurements of the die. It was 6" long. When I measured my Glimmer, the base that heats up was only 5.75". I was so disappointed. But then instead of testing with longer Gemini plates, which are a mint, I chose to come here and hopefully get an answer to whether you can still use a longer Gemini plate in the Glimmer. TIA❤

It has that marked grid on there, but the actual area that heats is 5-3/4" x 6-1/2", I think, and the metal should conduct the heat to the ends of the piece anyway. I think it will be fine... if not you could heat it and then scooch it up or down a little as you need to.

Hi! I'm so glad to find this thread; I ordered my CC FoilPress machine yesterday. I was @ HL today looking to see what they had in stock - a few Spellbinders dies.

I have lots of questions, some of which I'm sure I'll find the answers to on your site. In advance, thanks for that, Dini!

But I have one question that's not there: is it possible to use heat-transfer vinyl with the heat foiling machines? There are so many more vinyl choices (various colors, patterns, glitter, etc) than foil ones.

And what about the sheets of velvet, flocking and whatnot intended to be ironed onto t shirts (in the fabric crafts @ the brick and mortar stores), are they usable in a heat foiling machine? I think both are thicker products (the vinyl definitely is), so I'm not sure.

Has anyone tried this? Thoughts?

I have a bajillion cutting dies; I can't wait to try foiling with those!
