Cuttle Bug "B" Plates
I am sure this has been brought up but I have not been on for a bit. I am so frustrated that they have discontinued the Cuttle Bug and its accessories. And now you can get the "B" plates unless you want to pay $40.00 or more. I don't want to give up my Cuttle Bug and I don't have the funds to buy a new machine especially an electric one. If the electric goes out I can still use my Cuttle Bug.....I can't use one of the electric machines. And so much more can go wrong with the electric machine and we all know the warranty only covers so much for a short period of time. I hate the fact that if we want a die cutting/embossing machine & have the Cuttle Bug we are basically being forced to buy a new machine. UGH!!!!!Thanks for listening just had to vent.

Try your local hardware store - chances are they’ll be able to cut sheet acrylic to the right size for you, just check carefully on thickness. You could try eBay too - certainly here in the UK I could get a pair of compatible B plates for less than £5. Lots of folk are going to be willing to step into that gap in the market with compatible products, especially now Provocraft have taken away the option to buy “the real thing”.
Good luck!

Others are having success with a self-healing cutting mat - that might be an option for you as well.

I can vouch for both the above suggestions. I bought 'compatible' plates for my Bug from Ebay, as Joanne says, about a fiver. There are also people selling sheets of perspex online, cut to your own size, and in varying thicknesses. Pretty sure it's something you'd be able to get locally, if you took an old plate in with you they'd be able to match the thickness. As well as hardware stores, you could try local window replacement people, as they probably do perspex too.
I've also been using the cut down self healing mat, and that works really well. If you try that, do check the thickness of your mat against a proper cutting plate, as mats do vary considerably.

Thank you so much for the ideas. I tired the self healing mats and that work very well. I tried a few different ways and came up with two combinations that will work. A plate, two self healing mats & the C plate, OR A plate, self healing mat, magnetic spacer, self healing mat and a B plate.

Thank you for the tip about the self-healing mats! Most of the smaller hardware stores here have closed, and I'm not sure that a big box store would be as helpful.

I have spent a week on and off looking on the internet for someone who may still have the B plates for sale and no luck unless you want to spent alot of money. Someone on this thread mentioned the self heal mats and I just tired them and I am happy I did. I can get the mats with my coupons at Joann Fabrics. The magnetic space from Cricut is nice as it helps hold your dies in place.

Here is a link for Amazon with the C plate: Amazon.com: Cricut Cuttlebug Adapter Plate C, 5.875"x7.75
It is a lot cheaper than $40. I just purchased new plates from Amazon for when my current plates warp too much. I have a Big Shot, but pull my Cuttlebug out sometimes.

In addition to getting them cut at the hardware store, check Michaels. I saw some plates at my store on clearance just 2 weeks ago. (they weren’t marked clearance, but all the cuttlebug stuff came up on clearance when I price checked them.)

This is the reason I turned my back on Cricut. Too many times have they made the ultimate machine only to turn their back on it and make you buy the new and improved product. Self generating income sucks. I always keep spare new plates just in case. So I may have a gold mine in Cricut plates. lol

Joann.com has both the A and the C mats on sale for $11.99 each currently.
Michaels.com has the C mat for $7.19 currently.
Also, one woman I spoke with says she went to a glass-cutting business and was able to get them to cut plexiglass to the size (within 1/16") she needed.

JoAnn's shows the C mat but it also says currently out of stock. No B mats came up when I looked. Michael's still has the C mat.

cuttlebug acrylic plates
I have gotten replacement plates from Hi June Store on ********** for $3.73 with free shipping for the one plate. I got it in a little over a week. The plates work great and have bevel edges too. I think there is a shipping fee if you order in larger quantities. The one I got is 3mm thick. They also have 5mm ones too.

Just checked EBay and there is someone in the UK with new genuine B plates for sale. Price for set of 2 B plates is U.S $6.12 plus ship of $10.44 US. That’s about $17 for 2 B Plates. They have 10 sets available right now.
Put cuttlebug b plate in search line to find listing.

They say they are Cuttlebug "Compatible" B plates. They are not the genuine plates. It is a good price but if they happen not to work & you want to sent them back it will cost you another $10.44.

Thank you for the info., Angelnorth! Just a couple of weekends ago, I overheard a couple of women saying the exact same thing in Hobby Lobby and I just thought they were sorely mistaken....boy, what a shock to learn it's true! Makes no sense to me...

I don't live in Canada. Do they have a web site so I could order?

Will any Olfa 6X8 rotary mat work? I can't find this exact mat online. Are they all the same thickness. This is what I found on Amazon.

I think its a shabby way to treat customers but Cricut have a bit of a record of doing that. I was very lucky to be able to buy a C plate and a set of B plates here in the UK for a reasonable price. I have a Big Shot Plus but I still use my Cuttlebug for smaller dies.

Thanks for the advise on the Cuttlebug plates. I have been looking for quite sometime especially after cracking one of the plates. I love my Cuttlebug it was a gift from my son over 10 years ago. After showing my plates to hubby he said we could probably use plexiglass and I see that I am not the only one thinking this way. I am also going to self healing mats. I am glad I came across this site and I will be coming back. Thanks

I took my old plate to the local hardware store and they cut me 2 new ones . They turned out perfectly and it wasn't half as expensive as buying the 'brand' name at Mikes or some other craft store.

This is common with the Olfa mats, and once they warp they can't be un-warped (trust me, I've tried). Try an AccuQuilt Go mat instead - thicker and doesn't warp: Amazon.com: AccuQuilt GO! Cutting Mat; 6-inch-by-12-inch

This happened with the green mats I also bought... even though I rotate and flip with EVERY cut. Then, someone mentioned the "rotary" mats will always warp, and suggested the AccuQuilt self healing mats. I ordered a set and even though they are only 6 x 6, they also work pretty good. I am flipping and rotating, but have only been using them a couple of weeks now. I guess when you compare the prices, it's not much off the price of using the actual mats made for your machine. I donated my original Cuttlebug to a nursing home last year because I could barely crank it. I bought a electronic Gemini Jr at the HSN launch and use it almost daily. For a hand crank, I have the tiny Diamond Press which I love but it only cuts small dies. I have read on many many craft sites that crafters with Cuttlebugs have had excellent results with the plexiglass replacements... It's probably your best option since Provo Craft has discontinued it. Guess it fell away with the original Cricuts (which I have 3: the baby bug, a green expression, and the Special Edition Anniversary expression with the 4 preloaded carts). I still rely on my Cricut stuff and dread the day those machines wear out ! I have 30 cartridges, and the actual plastic cartridges are getting 'sticky' like they are melting, but they still work.

OH my!!! Just saw this post, I cannot believe they are discontinuing the Cuttlebug! My C plate is cracked and was look for another one. So is the whole trend to get an electric one?! ughhhh
ps I have the Cricut Explore and still have some of my keyboard templates and the actual cartridges should I toss them? I have everything on the Design Craft room online or whatever it is called now for Cricut. I had an Expressions machine but, the dial broke and they did not have the parts. grrrrrrr..
