Well, the Groundhog did not see his shadow, so that means Spring will be here before you know it! I had subzero temps here last week and it was 63 degrees here, today. I don't live very far from Punxsutawney Phil, so I hope he's correct in his prediction.
This month's challenge came from a necessity. My very close friend lost her Aunt, who is more like a grandmother to her, last week. She hadn't been ill, so it was sudden even for her 83 years of age. For some reason, this card design came to me in a flash. After I made it, I thought you might enjoy it as well.
I did a full-on, white-on-white card. For some reason, I wanted to convey my sympathy, but the snow and frigid temps made me go for a wintry feeling card. The only color is the gold embossed sentiment, which I matched on the inside sentiment.
Here's my creation (supplies to follow)

Supplies Used:
Background Embossing Folder: 3D Woodgrain by Sizzix (Tim Holtz)
Fern fronds: Papertrey Ink, Meadow Greens with matching die cuts
White embossing powder: Wow! - Opaque Detail White
Gold embossing powder: Brutus Monroe - Gilded
Tools: MISTI for stamping VersaMark fern fronds, sentiment and the new Cut-Align from My Sweet Petunia cut out my banner for my sentiment.
YOUR CHALLENGE FOR FEBRUARY:
Create a card using just one color. I used white, but you may choose whatever color you like. You may use a different color for your sentiment if you choose to do so. This is the only challenge specification.
Have fun by trying to use textures, like an embossing folder. I layered my ferns with vellum underneath...I don't think you can see that in the picture. That's just suggestion and not needed to enter.
Have fun! This card came together soooo fast and I was so happy with how it turned out. I mailed it today. I hope it brings comfort to my friend and all who loved her Aunt Franny.
Have a wonderful February! MISTI Monday

What a great challenge! I think your card is beautiful. Unfortunately, we must all keep our stash of sympathy cards on hand. I'll have to think about this. Variations of one color? Hum...

I had a blush color that I used today for a sympathy card...if I could figure out how to make the smidge of cardstock work I think it would be the perfect color...might need to make a card smaller than the normal A2 size.
Otherwise I've been using a lot of teal...teal on teal might be okay also.

I say yes!
I'm thinking teal...I don't have many colors of die ink but I'm going to make several when I figure out the stamps to use! I'm thinking big image...

I can't wait to see them, Jayne. I'm waiting on my MISTI. It should be here tomorrow, if the USPS doesn't mess up. Sometimes, in this small little town things get lost or just sit there for some reason. I'm feeling lucky, so my fingers are crossed. I can't wait. I feel like a little kid waiting to open up my Christmas gifts! LOL! Looking forward to seeing your creations!
Good luck everyone and Sally have fun with your new toy.

Jayne, your cards are gorgeous. Beautifully done. When I have trouble with my BS it is either that I have the sandwich wrong, or one of my plates is too warped to pass through. I never force it because I've heard that it can break your machine. I barely scrounged the $ up for one, I don't want to mess it up. So, I check out the sandwich again, or I turn one of my plates around. I have also sometimes dampened my paper if it is a very textured look.

Hey Sally...did your MISTI arrive? Yesterday our mail-lady didn't come down our driveway with 2 packages...of course we had at least 4 inches of snow at that point, we have a driveway that is 2 blocks long, and so I don't blame her as I didn't leave the house! Not sure what the packages are that wouldn't fit in the mailbox but I hoped yours arrived or does today!!!!
A Big Shot AND A MISTI...get busy girl...

I'm still waiting...The PO does not deliver to our homes. This itty bitty town has never had mail service. We have to rent a PO Box and go down to the post office. I usually wait until after lunch to give her time to get the mail into our boxes. It is only one person working, so if for some reason there are too many people in the PO it will take her longer to get the mail out. I'll keep an eye on the tracking, but like I said sometimes it just takes a while...I'll let you know. My BS is already about 6 or 7 years old, so you know my plates are very warped. LOL!
We don't get snow here, but our temps did drop over 40 degrees overnight. Yesterday afternoon it was 93 then 86. It was in the 70's when I was heading to bed and this morning it is 40 degrees. Very cold for us.
Yay Sally....go have FUN. You won't know yourself with a BS and a Misti LOL. Thank you for your kind comments on my cards. I enjoyed the challenge.
I am so going to get the Misti corners. Our stores don't keep a lot of supplies and I did order originally direct from Sweet Petunia but I think with shipping it's just the same as buying locally. I shall order some if they don't have them in stock. I am also going to check if they have the large magnets as I would love some of those.
Faye, you mentioned that you have 2 Misti's. Do you have different sizes or 2 the same and one for Julia?
I have made 4 cards this week and my goal is usually 1/week so I am happy and still have 2 more challenges I would like to do. I love making cards but now have so many that I don't know what to do with them. They aren't good enough to send but I enjoy making them and learning.

Jayne, I have the Original and the Mini, the corners, the long bar magnet, 4 extra magnets and now the Rulers.
I use the Original for making backgrounds, I use the Mini for stamping sentiments, the corners I've used a few times but with my style of card making I could make cards without the corners.
I haven't figured out how to use the angles.
I did use the Ruler already and like it.
I donate almost all of my cards to my local infusion bay area at the hospital...they aren't card makers thus they don't critique my cards like I do or like I think other card makers would...find a nursing home or senior apartment complex that might like them...
For the hospital I slide an envelope inside the card, then put the card inside a sandwich size baggie and tape the extra baggie part so the baggie is the size of the card...this keeps germs off the cards when patients are looking through them. I don't allow the hospital to sell them, they are only for the infusion bay area. I donate at least 600 a year.

Faye I like your suggestion....wow, 600 cards per year....that's a lot of cards but what a wonderful donation. Thanks for the idea. Happy Sunday

Thank you Jayne for all of your kind words. I did play with my new MISTI and I created a couple of quick cards for this challenge. I haven't uploaded yet because I wanted to keep the 30 cards I made with the Playful Palette DSP stack together. I just finished uploading those so, I will upload the two I made for this one so far. I need to rest my eyes a bit first. I broke my glasses during the week and my new pair won't be here until around the 14th. I manage with an old pair, but when the headache begins, I need to rest my eyes. I am loving all of the attention!!! All of you and the wonderful people on this site just continue to keep me smiling. The Lord has blessed me with all of you. Thank You!
I can't find the large ruler! Really...how can a person lose the 15 inch ruler?
Found it! Right between the containers of the embossing folders...now why did I put it there?
Made 3 cards for this challenge but only 2 will qualify because I couldn't figure out how to use the MISTI on the 3rd...had to use the old-fashion way of getting a image in the right spot but I could only stamp once!

Mine have so much more white than everyone else's! I used all same color inks though...! I meant well... lol
I think you did a great job, it didn't say how much white could or couldn't be there...I'm not an artsy person, I'm just always pleased when I like what I create because I never start with an end in mind. I usually end up not following the challenge the first time and shake my head saying, "REALLY?"
I made one very nice card for this challenge then realized I had to use my Stamp-a-mi-jig because I couldn't figure out how to use the MISTI to stamp the final image in the hole!
If you had fun then that is best reward...

I just took a peek at all the entries so far! LOVE THEM ALL! You guys rock! Pretty soon we'll be at month's end. Are you guys getting all the snow I am? Well, now it's mostly rain...but geez...I'm ready for Spring!
