Ink pads that are permanent and not water reactive?
I've been stamping and card making for two years now and i started off with buying all the distress oxide ink pads. I LOVE them but to add to my ink pad collection id like some ink pads that have pretty bright vibrant colors but are NOT water reactive like the distress oxides. I've been looking all over you tube and ill i keep coming up with are ink pads that are all water reactive. Can anyone tell me what ink pads they like that are permanent ink?? Thanks so much!
I’ve been using hybrid ink with success for both water coloring and copic coloring. I know There are some new almagom ink on the market that work for no linevwater coloring. But I haven’t tried them.
I use Ranger Archival inks. I have quite a few full-size pads & have had them for several years & not needed to reink them - and I use them ALOT. I have never had a problem with them bleeding or reacting to water no matter how much water I use. They have a good range of colours too and they stamp very crisply and cleanly. And some of the colours are now available in a smaller pad so that makes it cheaper to buy. Highly recommended!
Ranger Archival Inks come in many colors and can be used with water based media. Dick Blick gives a description of them. Check out Ranger for more information about the colors and sizes available. HTH

Another vote for Archival. There are also now 3 sets of Archival using Distress colours. .
The Versafine Clair inkpads have a huge range of colours, and it says on the back they can be used with watercolour.
Echoing others:
- Versafine Clair for vivid colors. There aren’t any light colors in the line but you can stamp off once to lighten them. (They’re amazing for heat embossing too.)
- Ranger Archival
- Gina K Design Amalgam. Fairly new, not a lot of colors yet.
And feel free to mix and match. Unless you have “full set syndrome,” grabbing colors from multiple manufacturers can expand your choices. (I only have full set syndrome with Distress Oxides, my desert island inks.)
I have a full set of the Impression Obsession hybrid inks - the formula is the same as other branded hybrid inks with this same pad style (I'm assuming that includes the Amalgam inks as well), with the benefit that these ones are grouped in color sets of three for layered stamps and blending ease.
Echoing Dini and Joyce. I’m a dufus for not mentioning IO (Impression Obsession) hybrids. I love three shades of a single hue. And they’re purchased individually, not in sets.
The owner of IO visited an LSS for a trunk show when she initially brought the inks out, and openly said there was nothing different about the inks themselves, but she wanted to fill in gaps when wanting three shades of the same color.
Memento inks aren't water reactive, and they come in quite a few colors.
Memento inks are water-based, so they will smear when watercoloring or using Tombow or Distress markers.

Actually, this can be confusing. One website says that Memento inks are waterproof. The Tsukineko website doesn't. Personally, I use Palette and Staz On when I want waterproof ink, but I knew I read this somewhere:
WATERPROOF DYE INK These inks are fast drying and great stamping inks. The difference between this and the first type of dye ink is that they’re waterproof. This means you can color over them with water or water based mediums. Examples of waterproof dye ink: Memento, Archival Ink, Ranger
Just Googled Memento inks, here's what it says: Memento Tuxedo Black Ink is fast-drying, acid-free and fade-resistant. Its works well with Copic and other markers as it will not smear. The ink is offered in a Dew Drop size and a reinker is available. ... It's acid-free, waterproof, and permanent on matte and glossy papers.
If you want to get even more permanent, you can stamp with acrylic ink. I fooled around with it some and loved the results I got. I used a large acrylic block and my brayer to get a thin layer of paint and then brayer it on my stamp. Since this can be rather messier than just stamping with an ink pad, it’s a good time to get a bunch of images “stamped” out at once. I was excited at the crispness of the images from large background stamps that I had found hard to use with ink. I also liked the opportunity to morph colors on the acrylic block by just adding a dot of a different color next.
Although I didn’t work with the option, while I was doing these prints, I think there is real potential for great resists from a rylic paint, layering background inking or watercolor with background stamped in acrylic, and then even more water or alcohol based color on top of that. You could just go wild.
But to the question, acrylic paint is a water proof meduim you can stamp wiht.
Of course, prepare intellegently to clean your stamps and other equipment, if you try this.
Memories inks are dye inks, but, when dry, they can be used with water-based markers or watercolored with reinkers. I like them because they don't have the smell of the Stazon that I find offensive. They also come in a variety of colors.
