Happy New Year!! We are so excited and thrilled that you found our Bible Art Journaling Challenge forum for 2019!
If you are new to Bible Art Journaling (BAJ), please remember that there is no right or wrong way to journal in your Bible. Not everyone feels comfortable journaling in their Bible and some prefer to use an art journal, notebook, scrapbook or other book. Also, please remember, BAJ is not about how great your artwork looks but it is a creative worship time between you and the Lord.
So let's grab our art supplies (gelatos, colored pencils, acrylic paints, markers, plain pencils, watercolors, inks, crayons- whatever your heart desires) and worship the Lord with our creativity!!
If you are unable to actually journal at this time, we would love for you to join in and "chat" so we can encourage each other, share ideas as well as see your art in the gallery when you are able to create.
When you upload to the gallery, remember: We have our own gallery to load our journal pages- Once you enter the "Upload A Card" click on the arrows next to the windows under "Select Galleries"- in the first window select "Anything BUT a Card", in the second window choose "Books, Handmade Albums and Journals" , in the third window choose "Art Journal Pages" and then a 4th window should appear and choose "Bible Art Journal Pages" .
Please use these keywords when you post to the gallery- BAJ19, Bible Art Journaling and if you have time, link your gallery upload in this forum so we can be inspired by your work and encourage you with some "love" ...
I am looking forward to spending time in God's Word studying and hopefully more creatively this year! I may not be as active as a few of our participants but we definitely would love for you to join us!
Hello Sweet Sisters (and Brothers) in Christ!! Welcome to the New Year!! Our theme for January will be "Wisdom" and again, the optional techniques for the year will be "Anything Goes" (for art mediums, etc.).
There are many verses in the Bible discussing "Wisdom" and one of my favorites is:
"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him as of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him".James 1:5 NKJV
I know that I need more wisdom for sure- lol!! Have fun creating and studying this month! I am looking forward to seeing what you share with all of us!!
Hugs and God Bless!! __________________ Julie Gearinger
Every year I choose a Word of the Year. My word for 2019 is Focus. As I did last year, I created a Bible Journaling page for my word to share on my blog when I revealed my word of the year.
My scripture verse that goes along with this year's word is Jeremiah 29:13. In that verse God says, "If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me."
Thank you Julie for keeping the BAJ forum going in 2019!
Jeanette, your journal pages are fabulous! Love the one for focus!
My word is “intentional” again, until I get it right! LOL
I have so many things I want to do in 2019! I just can’t get it going in an organized fashion. Jeanette, you must never sleep! I think you are Super Woman! Happy New Year!
So I've been lurking, but would like to join y'all, pretty please! I'm even prepared with my word for the next little while* and the Word God gave me this morning.
*My word is "OUT". I'm not saying for the year because if I get it under my belt in less than that time, I'll hold onto it and move on to the next one God shows me. For now, I feel like God is telling me it's time to live out boldly the things that He has been teaching me. Things I should be doing for myself (health) and, more importantly, ministry and those I encounter (family, friends, beyond). Take what I have been focused on inwardly and now focus OUT. Now that I have typed it out, this may take a year+. ;)
The Word he gave me this morning came through Matthew 10:27, 30-31. I understand the original context of what Jesus is saying to his disciples but I feel led to "hear" that God is telling me to take what He is asking me to do and do it without fear or hesitation. I'm often afraid of doing things poorly or not having the skills/abilities necessary to begin with & I don't want to let anyone down. I need to stop holding back, remember if He asks me to do something He will help me do it. Get OUT there with boldness. Also, that He doesn't want me self-focused, but focused outward to others. Hence - OUT.
Now to figure out how to journal that to share with you all
Thanks Adriana. I wasn't sure if it would communicate to anyone but me, but then again, I do think Bible Journaling has to speak to us first and then others. Just my opinion.
Your word "Out" is awesome! Thank you for sharing that.
The book I'm using is the Shanna Noel devotional journal called 100 Days of Grace and Gratitude. I like that it gives a brief (very brief) devotional and some verses that coordinate with that devotional... then space to journal. My style, of course, is more like card-making. I love the mixed media look, but just can't make anything I'm happy with myself. And I hate my handwriting. So my style works for me.
Welcome, Adriana. I am not doing much in way of Bible journaling, but love following along here. I think I did two pages only last year. Just not too sure of the style I want to do. I was doing mixed media, but love Jeanette’s “Clean” style.
Sharon, that's so sweet! Thank you! I love the mixed media/artsy look others use, but I simply cannot do it. Mine always looks like a mess when I try it. So I tend to Bible Journal more like I make a card. LOL! That's my style and I'm guessing it's going to remain my style.
I have no idea what my style will be, but mixed media isn't likely to happen for me, either. A mess is a good way to describe my efforts there, lol. Good thing time spent with the Lord is never wasted, because ya wouldn't think "worthwhile" if you saw what I tried yesterday!
I love card sketches and was thinking that maybe some of the tall and skinny sketches might work for this. I want to use my journaling Bible but don't want to go over the text, so the tall & vertical layout of those sketches might work. I'm going to try that next. Maybe I will come up with something decent enough to share.
Adriana...thank you for the idea of using layouts that are tall and skinny, I don't want to cover over the scripture either. This will maybe help me get started (I'd say again but having only done 2 pages I hardly think I've begun!)

I hope it helps! I am going to try one as a bookmark first and see how it goes
Happy New Year everyone... I hope to gee back to Bible journaling this year. I love this community! Thank you for always inspiring and encouraging with your projects
Faye, I didn't think you were in IL but couldn't think where you were. Thank you for explaining! YAY! I hope you'll have a great trip to FL - and through IL too if that's the route you take. ;)

Happy Friday everyone!
I played around this week with a couple of different mediums to see what my journaling Bible could handle without having to prep the page. I was in Matthew 14 on Wednesday and tried blending Distress inks to create (sort of) a background. I heard in a video (somewhere?) that they could be used without bleed-through, and it worked really well!
I wanted to give the impression of water, mountains and a little bit of dark sky to go along with the scripture there. A misty kind of look, not distinct.
Probably looks very basic and boring to everyone LOL but i like it because i was still able to write notes on the side and i believe it will also be a good visual reference for when i am trying to find this scripture again some day
