Default TLC60 - Poppin' Pastels

The technique for this week is Poppin' Pastels. It was suggested by Reneejul1. Thanks Julie!

Poppin' Pastels uses Versamark and Pastels. Pastels are really just chalk...high quality chalk to be sure, but chalk. So if you don't have pastels in your supply cupboard, try it with some kid chalk.

Ink up your stamp with Versamark. Stamp on cardstock. Lightly touch a sponge dauber, q-tip, or cotton ball into the pastel of your choice. No need to press down hard! In fact, if you press too hard, you will break the chalk piece. It is still usuable, just not so pretty sitting in the tray. After you have the applicator of choice "chalked up", press or dab it over the versamarked image. The chalk will stick to the versamark and your image will magically appear. Some chalk will stick to the cardstock too, but the image will be much more vivid. Depending on the applicator, you can get just the image, or create a kind of halo effect around the image from the excess chalk. Both looks can be fabulous.

Here's two I had in my gallery:

As always, if you have questions, please ask. If you have suggestions, please share!

When you upload, please put TLC60 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread.

If you need help uploading or posting a link to this thread, check out this link:

If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN' !!

Have fun!

Never tried this before. Should be fun. But first I have to go find some chalk! I'm so glad I found this challenge board. Even though I've only been stamping for a few months, I have found that I'm already in a safe little zone that I need to be pulled out of. These challenges do just that!

As soon as I feed my kids, I am off to play. Thanks for the fun challenge - I love this technique, and it is nice and soft for spring cards!

This is great. My demonstrator told me how to do the process but I didn't know what it is called. Here is one a did a while back using "popping pastels." Grapes-NOS.

Now I can't wait to do another card using this technique. Thanks for suggesting it.

Ooooo fun Beth! I was just thinking last week that I should bring out my pastels again...thanks for the push. As the kids are home today, it is going to be busy but hopefully I'll get some time this afternoon.

I just love this technique. Before I added a wide range of colours to my inks, I used this often to add colour.

Here is a card from my gallery. I made this special occasion card for my in-law's anniversary. They just loved it.

Outside (the script was chalked, then once it was dry, I Versamarked the flower over top).

Inside (All of the flowers were versamarked and then chalked. It was very time consuming! The smudges are where all of the family signed it.)

Great challenge............does anyone lightly spray their card with cheap hairspray so the pastels don't rub off? I do this and either tape with temporary tape so it will lay flat or put it under something so it will dry flat. Even if you lightly spray sometimes it curls.............just a suggestion.

Oh what fun, Beth! I haven't done this one before. I don't really know why either. I have chalks but they aren't SU. My sister gave them to me a long time ago when I was scrapbooking a lot. Needless to say, since I've been introduced to SU and SCS, I have not scrapped one page. I'm way behind in that area.
I can't wait to try this out! Thanks to all for the wonderful tips! I'll have to dig around to see if I have any shimmery eyeshadow.
Be back soon...

I have never used hairspray with the stampin' pastels, and have never had a problem with them coming off the paper.

No time to play today but I did have this card in my stash. The pastels come in handy for newbies like me who are missing alot of colors. Plus, I bought the pastels at Michael's for only $4.99 (without a coupon) for about 48 colors.

This is one of those techniques I learned early in my stamping days but do not use often, thanks for the challenge. I got 3 new backgrounds last week and with the holiday weekend I couldn't play with them until today, so of course had to incorporate at least one.
Here is mine

Here's mine. I had a head start over the weekend and made 10 of these for this month's Christmas Card Challenge. All I had to do was assemble them this morning. The W is done with Poppin' Pastels.

Good Morning! The boys are sleeping in this morning, so I got to play with the technique! I LOVED IT!!!! What fun. I played and played with my 2 step images. It was fun to chalk the darker lines first, then versamark the lighter stamp and color it with a lighter shade 2nd. I have had challenges with getting the 2 step where I like it. This is my first post. Not so much because I adore this particular card, but because I really liked the images I was creating and had to glue them together. Angie

Here are a couple from my gallery in the meantime.
