Default Is USPS still the best way to ship?

Hi all,
I keep noticing the price of shipping going up and now it seems one can only ship priority when the weight of the box goes over a pound. Before I start looking into options, has anyone else looked into alternate options for mailing our donations? I would rather put any savings into supplies and send more cards than pay for priority shipping when there isn’t really a rush.

I am not sure how many cards you are talking about, but I usually do about 20. I pack them in a manila envelope and ask the USPO to mail this book rate. It usually cost me about $2.66 to send them this way. It might take a day or two longer, but they always get there.

I usually send about that many, so that’s great help. I was once told (at my PO) that I had to send them in a box but I am realizing it just depends on who you ask. I guess I’m just going to have to figure out which window to avoid at my local office ;)

I take mine to my local post office and they have gotten to know me. I never use a box unless I have a large number of cards, but then it would be cheaper to just break them down in several manila envelopes.

My Post Office will not give me book rate for cards. They said it must be all "printed material" and I suppose that they mean commercially printed. Rubber stamps and washi tape don't count, lol. But, if I were you, I would just continue to accept whatever your P.O. says, as it's quite a bit cheaper than at mine.

I’ve tried sending them in manilla envelopes and was told they (the envelopes) are only for documents; essentially the envelope has to stay completely flat. I was told the same for bubble envelopes... why anyone would need to send flat documents in a bubble envelope is beyond me ;)

I cannot send media mail at my post office either. and a bubble mailer is for anything that fits in it, I have never had any problems with a bubble mailer. I usually send my cards in a flat rate envelope, wrapped in PO bubble mailer first then the cardboard envie. the PO bubble mailer is higher than the cardboard mailer. $6.70 for cardboard flat and $7.25 for bubble flat
